"Denim Day" - Stand Against Sexual Assault

In the wake of recent rape cases in DENIM DAY in LA and the USA.

Steubenvile, Ohio and San Francisco, California involving teens posting images of the attacks online, people everywhere are invited to take a stand against sexual assault on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013: Participate in

Men and women everywhere wear denim jeans to raise awareness about the preventable catastrophe of sexual violence and to support survivors of sexual assault.
  

Whenever, free to wear whatever!

Now in its 14th year, Denim Day is organized annually by the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization Peace Over Violence. The campaign, held each April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, recalls an Italian court case that sparked international outrage when judges did not convict a rapist because the victim wore jeans. The judges ruled that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her attacker remove them, thus implying consent.

"Once again, this is a chance to make a social statement with your fashion statement," said Patti Giggans, Executive Director of Peace Over Violence. "Stand with us to raise awareness about rape and to support survivors."

With the slogan "There is No Excuse and Never an Invitation to Rape," Denim Day will be marked with events around the US, including rallies on college campuses and military bases.

Additionally, Denim Day in LA and Denim Day NYC will host high-profile events with local elected officials and celebrities in those cities.

Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) and comic actress Retta (NBC's Parks & Recreation) will be among the headliners at "Distressed," an all-star comedy show on Denim Day at Lexington Social House in Hollywood.

Also in Los Angeles, students in public middle schools and high schools will take part in Denim Day assemblies and events, thanks to district-wide recognition of the campaign.

Going for Rogue: Buddhists for Sarah Palin?

Some Buddhists love Barack Obama (a Buddha-like politician). Could others feel the same for pseudo-feminist Sarah Palin? Would they consider going for refuge? Her book Going Rogue has just come out. And she's using the release as another opportunity to prove why she is just another in a long line of folks who have squandered the power of having national attention.

Rather than looking deep into the unifying ideas of her own Christian tradition and transforming her fear, selfishness, and separateness into a positive force in national politics, she continues to peddle and parade...her insecurities in the guise of false morality.

She does this all while watching over her shoulder for the scantily clad shadow figure of baby daddy Levi Johnston [who's now appearing nude in Playgirl magazine]. This is a great thing for Buddhists.... I am considering starting a club where anyone can come offer compassion to metamorphose anger at public figures into something useful and transformative -- the "Buddhists for Sarah Palin" club. Anyone want to join?

Why Palin is Resigning

Hillary must be laughing. Why did President-to-be Palin resign? Greed, hubris, ambition, and costly ethics investigations are part of the reason as are offers to feed a narcissistic personality disorder.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Levi Johnston, the former fiance of Republican Governor Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter, says he thinks he knows why she is resigning — concerns over money.

The 19 year old, whose wedding to Bristol Palin was called off earlier this year, says he believes the governor is resigning over personal finances. Johnston says he lived with the Palin family from early December to the second week in January. He claims he heard the governor several times say how nice it would be to take advantage of the lucrative deals that were being offered, including a reality show and a book.

"I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars," said Johnston, who has had a strained relationship with the family but now says things have improved. Palin has a book deal, but compensation details haven't been disclosed. The governor has said she is facing more than $500,000 in legal fees. "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills," Palin family spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Johnston made his comments at a news conference Thursday at the office of his attorney, Rex Butler. He came forward, Butler said, because Alaskans want to know why Palin has decided to resign. She made the announcement last Friday. Johnston is also pursuing his own book deal. He is working as a carpenter while also pursuing a movie deal. Source
