Who "Created" the Universe?

Baka Brahma, luminous,
entertained these [wrong] views:
I AM that God, the One who makes,
Father of the whole World.
I flourish from My own purity.”
But He had wrongly conceived of
views that wrapped around Him
as tight as serpents’ coils:
The supreme wandering ascetics
conquered Him by knowledge.
He was cured. Source

I am that I am?
A god (brahmā) known as Baka once reflected privately that he and his heavenly plane of existence were everlasting. He thought that it was not possible that there could be a higher plane of rebirth and was therefore convinced he had overcome all rebirth and suffering.

The Buddha discerned his deep-seated wrong view and decided out of sympathy to pay Baka a visit in his heaven. When the Buddha appeared in that brahmā world, Baka Brahmā welcomed him formally but immediately announced:

“Now, good sir, this [place] is permanent, this is everlasting, this is eternal, this is total, this is not subject to pass away; for this neither is born nor ages nor dies nor passes away nor reappears, and beyond this there is no escape” (MN 49).

The Buddha, however, contradicted him, pointing out that every one of his claims was wrong. Just then Māra the Tempter [a kind of Lucifer figure] joined their conversation. Māra’s task is to prevent beings from being won over to the Dhamma, to keep them trapped in the cycle of rebirth and death, what Mara views as his personal domain [11].

Taking possession of one of the brahmā’s attendants, Māra urged the Buddha, with a display of sympathy, to accept this brahmā as God, the creator of all other beings.

He told the Buddha that wandering ascetics of the past who delighted in things of this life and “who lauded Brahmā” won happy rebirths afterwards, while those who disbelieved and rejected Brahmā had to endure terrible punishment [in hells].

The Awakened One (the Buddha) let Mara have his say and then called his bluff: “I know you, Evil One. Do not think, ’He does not know me.’ You are Māra, Evil One, and the Brahmā and his assembly and the members of the assembly have all fallen into your hands, they have all fallen under your power. You, Evil One, think, ’This one, too, has fallen into my hands. He, too, has fallen under my power.’ But I have not fallen into your hands, Evil One. I have not fallen under your power.”

“All beings subject to craving—humans, subhumans, devas (celestial deities), or brahmās (grand divinities)—are said to be under Māra’s power because they can all be moved by their mental defilements and must drift along in the current of rebirth and death.

But the Buddha and the other arahants (fully enlightened ones) have permanently and completely escaped Māra’s circle of influence, for they have eliminated all defilements. They have exhausted the fuel that leads to rebirth and thus have vanquished the Lord of Death (Mara).

Baka Brahmā begins to speak on his own behalf. He reminds the Buddha of his opening statement on permanence. He warns him that it is futile to seek “an escape beyond” his own brahma realm. Then he cajoles and threatens the Buddha in the same breath:

“If you will hold to earth… beings… gods… you will be close to me, within my domain, for me to work my will upon and punish.”

The Buddha agrees that if he clung to earth (or any other aspect of existence) he would remain under the control of Mahā Brahmā ("Great Supremo") and Māra, too, but he adds:

“I understand that your reach and sway extend thus: Baka the Brahmā has this much power, this much might, this much influence.”

The Buddha points out that beyond the thousandfold world system over which Baka reigns there are planes of existence of which Baka is totally unaware, and beyond all conditioned phenomena there is a reality that transcends even “the allness of the all”—a consciousness without manifestation, boundless, luminous on all sides—to which Baka has no access whatsoever.

The Buddha, demonstrating his superiority in knowledge and power, then uses his superior psychic powers to humble Baka in front of his entire assembly. By the end of the discourse, these once haughty divine beings marvel at the might of the wandering ascetic Gotama:

“Though living in a generation that delights in being…he has extirpated being [becoming, bhava] and its root” [12].

A brahmā with wrong view
Once an unnamed brahmā gave rise to this deluded thought: “No ascetic is powerful enough to reach my [divine] realm.”

The Buddha read his mind and proved him wrong by simply appearing before him and sitting at ease in the air above his head, while radiating flames from his body in a dramatic display of supernormal powers.

Four great arahant (fully enlightened) disciples—Mahā Moggallāna (the monk the Buddha declared "foremost in psychic powers" among his disciples), Kassapa, Kappina, and Anuruddha—independently realized what had happened and decided to join their Teacher on this divine brahmā plane.

Each disciple sat cross-legged in the air respectfully below the Buddha—but above that brahmā—in one of the cardinal directions, emitting fire around himself. A short dialogue in verse took place between Mahā Moggallāna, the Buddha’s second chief male disciple, and that brahmā:

“Today, friend, do you still hold that view,
The same view that you formerly held?
Do you see a radiance
Surpassing that in the brahma-world?”

“I no longer hold that view, dear sir,
[I reject] the view I formerly held.
Indeed, I see a radiance
Surpassing that in the brahma-world?”

Today how could I assert the view
That I am permanent and eternal?”

According to the Commentary (tika) to this story, the brahmā gave up his wrong view, his wrong belief in his own superiority when he observed the magnificence of the Buddha and a few of his arahants.

When the Buddha preached the Dhamma to him, that brahma was established in the fruit of stream-entry and stopped thinking of himself as permanent.

When this brahmā saw his own [radical] impermanence clearly and distinctly for himself, his former tenacious wrong view, wrong opinion that his world and life were immortal was uprooted.

Many aeons of preparation, the brahmā’s quick intellect, the Buddha’s perfect timing, and the support of the four arahants bore fruit in this divinity becoming a stream enterer (one who has reached the first stage of awakening).

After the Buddha and those arahants left and returned to Jetavana, the great brahmā wanted to learn more about the powers of Buddhist monastics. He sent a member of his retinue to ask Mahā Moggallāna whether there are even more monastics of this teacher who can perform such feats as he can. Maha Moggallāna replied:

“Many are the disciples of the Buddha
Who are arahants with taints destroyed,
Triple knowledge bearers with spiritual powers,
Skilled in the course of others’ minds”
(KS I, 182–84; SN 6:5).

Not only do large numbers of monastics have such special powers and the ability to know other people’s minds, but there are numerous fully purified arahant disciples of the Buddha as well. The emissary was glad to hear this answer, as was that brahmā when he received the report. Source

Are women a trap for men? (cartoon)

(Rerun Zone) The Male Gaze: Sexism, Racism, and the Biggest Censorship in Classic Cartoons

The most uncomfortable and forbidden truth about women, according to Schopenhauer
The World as Will...Vol. 1
(Refuge of the Male Mind) June 10, 2025: Let's explore one of Arthur Schopenhauer’s most controversial and philosophical views on women. Drawing from his major work The World as Will and Representation, we can analyze how he saw the female nature, the biological role of women, and how it all connects to the blind Will-to-life, the irresistible will to live and carry on, to consume and reproduce. "Eat, Mate, Kill, Repeat." Prepare to reflect on deep, provocative, and forbidden ideas that still spark intense debate today.

Would the Buddha agree?

What is the point or profit of an ascetic life?
Buddhism is far more sophisticated than nearly anyone realizes. The Buddha taught in a variety of ways, which made him very popular to different types of people. We imagine he only gave discourses or sutras, but he did much more than that. He told fables (many of which were published in Aesop's Fables), recounted past lives with talking animals and stories (jatakas), histories, a disciplinary code with origin stories for each of the rules (with a spicy sinful story that gave rise to the need for a rule), recorded verses of enlightened nuns, and most sophisticated of all is an entire collection of works in Buddhist psychology and physics called the Abhidhamma Pitaka or "Collection on the Dhamma explained in ultimate terms" or The Higher Doctrine Collection. Are women a trap for men, or men a trap for women, or pleasant objects a trap for clingy humans?

How are we raising our girls in the US nowadays?
Why do we become attached and clingy?
The Abhi-Dhamma = Higher Doctrine Collection
There exists a sutra where the Buddha points out that nothing is more alluring for a male than the form of a female. This sounds bad, but the same is said of females. Nothing is more alluring than the form of a male. (What can be said of pandakas, the third gender or gender-nonconforming individuals, we are not told, into which category would fit all LGBTQIA+ persons, whether gay, bi, or pansexual). We can imagine that whatever one likes, whatever one is attracted to, that is the most alluring. And this is problematic for anyone who wishes to make progress toward enlightenment and liberation in this very life.

The Buddha's Higher Doctrine in Practice
The Abhidhamma in Practice by N.K.G. Mendis, Wheel 322, BPS.lk, 2006
Wheel 322/323: The Abhidhamma in Practice
When the mind is not experiencing objects through the five sense doors — eye, ear, nose, tongue, or body — it can still be active through the [sixth sense called the] "mind door," taking as its object either something previously experienced through the five sense doors, recently or long ago, or some idea or image peculiar to itself.

Past experiences are registered in the life-continuum (bhavanga) in a subliminal form, where from time to time they can surface through the mind-door to serve as objects for the mind-moment (citta).

On the one hand, karmically active moments can follow this mental activity, and here again the practice of mindfulness — that is, being [dispassionately] aware that there is thinking — will prevent the arising of unwholesome causative mind moments.

On the other hand, if mindfulness is absent there can be unwholesome mental activity, such as longing [or lust] for things of the past, worry, remorse, regret, grudge, and doubt. Mind moments exhibit certain other interesting features that are dealt with in the Abhidhamma (the Doctrine or Dhamma in Ultimate Terms). Some of these are as follows.

Association with "roots"
Mind moments may be associated with mental factors called "roots" (hetu, mula), or they may be dissociated from these roots.

The former kind of mind moments are called sahetuka cittas, the latter ahetuka cittas; these are, respectively, rooted and rootless states of consciousness.

The roots are particular mental factors (cetasikas) that arise together with the mind moments, often giving it a determinate ethical quality.

Because the mind moment and its constituent factors, the mental concomitants (cetasikas), arise together and because both have the same object and base, it is difficult to appreciate the subtle differences in their characteristics unless one's mindfulness and insight are very sharp.

There are six roots. Three are karmically unwholesome (akusala); the other three may be either karmically wholesome (kusala) or indeterminate (abya-kata), depending on the type of consciousness they arise in.

The unwholesome roots are greed (lobha), hatred (dosa), and delusion (moha). The three roots that are wholesome in some mind moments and indeterminate in others are greedlessness (alobha), hatelessness (adosa), and undeludedness (amoha).

Though these last three roots are expressed negatively they have positive manifestations. Greedlessness manifests as generosity and renunciation (unselfishness and letting go), hatelessness as loving-kindness and compassion, and undeludedness as wisdom or understanding.

In the ordinary unenlightened worldling these six roots can occur in various combinations. When one enters the path leading to enlightenment, the unwholesome roots are eradicated in stages until final emancipation is achieved.

For the fully enlightened person (arahant), the liberated one, the mind moments that arise can no longer be associated with any unwholesome roots. The mind moments that the fully enlightened experiences are neither wholesome nor unwholesome, as one does not generate any further karma; one's mind moments are exclusively indeterminate.

These indeterminate mind moments can be functional (kiriya, kriya), as on occasions when one is mentally active, or resultants (vipaka) when one is experiencing the effects of past karma or abiding in the meditative attainment of fruition.

For spiritual progress, it is important to be aware of the roots associated with the mind moments that we are experiencing at any particular moment. This is possible only by the practice of mindfulness as expounded in the Discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.

This awareness helps us to rid ourselves of the unwholesome roots and to cultivate the wholesome roots. This practice enables one to purify moral virtue (sila), to develop stillness (samadhi), and to achieve insight (vipassana).

Association with feeling
Mind moments differ according to the feeling associated with them. Every mind moment has a concomitant feeling, but the quality of this feeling differs from mind moment to mind moment. Some are accompanied by a pleasant feeling (sukha vedana), some by a painful feeling (dukkha vedana), some by an indifferent feeling (upekkha vedana).

It is important to recognize the feeling that accompanies each mind moment, for feelings serve as a condition for defilements to arise.

The mind's natural tendency is to develop attachment to a pleasant feeling and aversion to an unpleasant one. Any attachment will eventually cause disappointment (dukkha); for everything within and around us is impermanent, so when inevitable separation takes place, if there is attachment, the result will be sorrow, lamentation, and despair.

Aversion, apart from giving further nourishment to the unwholesome roots, is a totally futile response. We cannot change the essentially unsatisfactory nature of the Rebirth Cycle (samsara), but we can alter our reactions to our experiences in this cycle.

Therefore, the sanest attitude would be neither to get attached to anything pleasant nor react with aversion to anything displeasing.

This would be an attitude of equanimity or indifference, which can be of two kinds. One is a callous indifference that is a total disregard for one's own well-being or that of others. This type of indifference is born of the unwholesome roots and obviously should not be cultivated by a spiritual seeker.

The other type of indifference is a highly refined mental state that is better referred to as "equanimity" (unbiased looking on). This attitude, born of wisdom pertaining to the real nature of phenomena, is an attitude of mental calmness amidst all the vicissitudes of life. This is the kind of equanimous state that we must cultivate [for progress]. More

Tortured Poet Taylor Swift @ midnight (listen)

Swifties revel in the ‘crazy’ parts of Taylor Swift fans' culture (Los Angeles Times/latimes.com)
Taylor ‘Nazi Barbie Swift drops clues for new Tortured Poets Department album
Who's T-Swift? She's a U.S. royal like Meghan
(TODAY) April 18, 2024: Travis Kelce's lucky charm Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is set to be released Friday (right at midnight on Thursday night) and speculation continues to grow over music industry public relations and marketing department clues for lyrics, song titles, and the album’s first music video. An alleged leak of the new project prompted many Swifties to ask fellow fans not to disrespect her work by being greedy but to instead wait for the official release so Taylor can make the most money and control her own narrative and corporate branding. NBC’s Emilie Ikeda reports for TODAY. #TaylorSwift #Music

Are you serious, Mom? I prefer Olivia's music.
For lesbians, mother-daughter incest survivors, and women with dogs who hump their leg, the Swift Corporation is putting out a new album in vinyl to make a killing at Target or Walmart or some big box retailer with a lucrative exclusive contract.

Buy the store version and get extra tracks of "Nazi Barbie" passing wind, burping, struggling like only tortured poets struggle (to come up with AI-quality songs for the masses) with just a touch of narcissism, juvenile pettiness, self-aggrandizing "Ah shucks, I'm just a country girl and pro-LGBTQIA+ Biden-voting, Christian on the right side of history," and a je ne sais quoi, or maybe an "oh 🙄 brother" factor.

Seacrest's so excited he sent Sisanie to promote it
But for dyed in the polyester fans, tune in to Los Angeles' "Swift FM" (KISS 102.7 FM) right at midnight tonight to hear cuts from the album curated by Miss TrayLor herself, Taylor Swift. It will be replayed tomorrow and then for the rest of our lives like a bad Madonna or Milquetoast release. Never has so much been done by so many for so little.

I'm still a child at head. I never grew up.
Song 1, "Fortnight," features Post Malone to help her sell the Lana Del Rey sound-rip off. As the first track, it should be the first single on the record. Is that how it works? Or will it be Post Malone's fans wanting to see what he did (which ain't much) that'll drive sales? "It's very fatalistic," Taylor claims, because it's about fatalism (the anti-karma idea that everything that happens is fixed in advance by fate).

Song 2, "Tortured Poet's Department," is the same gaar-bahge, complaining, talking about things a highschooler would be getting over by graduation at the latest. Are any college coeds aware of her? They like Miley Cyrus, but Swift seems like it's composed by AI for children, nothing much catchy about it like that "sick fat beat" song.

Song 3 is a metaphor, whining about relationships. She's a one trick pony going on about denial and toxicity: "My Boy Only Breaks His Toys." This song is more promising, with a "whoa whoa whoa" refrain and a new drum machine setting, some inflection in the singing, lacking emotional depth or a hook but good confection, instantly forgettable. Eight-year-olds are bound to like it.

Song 4, "Down Bad," is another metaphor, about alien abduction from the time she was "love bombed" by a narcissist then dumped. She's crying, talking about being a suicidal teen too depressed to get out of bed if the ETs won't come back for her. She sure must've gotten her heart broken a lot to whine about it song after song. Female country music singers must hate her. "What if I was in love?" she asks and has no one to tell her to use the subjunctive: "What if I were in love?" She dumbs it down for the kids and the Heartland maybe?

Song 5, "So Long London," is a dreamy kind of Lana Del Rey tremolo talker. Who taught her rhyme? Teach her more. Rhyming couplets of pining, longing, yearning, and being pathetic and clingy but indignant and hot and I will survive, it's a tragedy. Are Lana's attorney's tuned in? This song seems actionable. Big artists have gotten in trouble for less. How hard can it be to write one catchy tune?

Song 6, "But Daddy I Love Him," a string of facile rhymes, end of the world love lost with some emotion but "precocious" "tendrils"? It's like how Shakira had her thesaurus out to help her translate from Spanish to English for Laundry Service. What's Tay Tay's excuse? There are ten more of these junk heap discards pulled out, dusted off, and assembled into "sanctimonious" "soliloquies"? This is the least bad one so far.

Song 7, "Fresh Out the Slammer," is a metaphor of being in jail or prison and getting out to run to a sweetheart with more lameitude in rhyme, as if she finds herself clever and listening to so much Lana that she's drenched in the talent of a single-minded vision and not getting it in any dimension but one, superficial.

Song 8, "Florida," featuring Florence and the Machine, about reinventing herself after heartbreak (again). Where would anyone go to blend in and reinvent oneself? America's dangling participle peeing in the Gulf, right, T-Swift? Florence adds some verve at least and so meta. "Is that a bad thing to say in a song?" "Florida is one hell of a drug," and we drink -- and here the rhyming problem comes up again (yet again), just taking a bunch of rhyming words and say them close to each other like a rapper in the flow just pulling anything in to fill space. Short and sweet. If Lana doesn't sue, this is a good one. Taylor has found the secret, feature Ice Spice, Florence, Post Malone, or anyone to extend her range.

The craze behind tall blonde beauty | Harvard lecture, $64 bil in concert revenue | All About Taylor Swift
(LASSI Studio) March 1, 2024: A lecture called "Taylor Swift and Her World" opened at Harvard. Taylor's concerts generated a $63.5 billion economic impact, also known as "Swiftonomics." She has won the Grammy for Album of the Year three times. This is a video on the ultimate [AI] songstress.

Song 9, "Guilty As Sin," is about crying, whining about a boy, using big words ("paradox"), and having no success in relationships. Is this causing all the bad relationships in the country, or are there so many bad relationships that Taylor is "the voice of an unhappy generation"?

Song 10, "Just Hold Me" (?), a sad song asking, "Who's afraid of little old me? You should be!" The way she makes everything so obvious an pat, the name of this song must be "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" because she repeats, so emo and slightly goth with imagery of death, drugs, and depression. There's something here; I can see how this one could be included in 1980s flashbacks or retro emo song lists with what sounds like a live drummer.

Song 11, "I Can Fix Him, No Really I Can," more complaining about a man she loves ("He's my man... I can fix him, no, really, I can.") This is Lana gone West, a real song, a rip off. Does no one else listen to enough Lana to see it? How could the Eras Tour stand having three hours of this pissant urine?

Song 12, "LMNL" (?), more complaining about a bad man she loves against her will, and she adores him, and she criticizes him, and oy vey, does she never stop complaining? This is cr*p, but kids love cr*p, so it will be interesting which of her masterpieces the focus groups will tell the corporate stations to put on rotation and overplay.

Song 13, "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," almost danceable at the crying party, when we go to comfort Patty who got dumped by Brad. "You're better than him, Patty! Get out of bed and shake him off. C'mon let's go dance and celebrate our broken hearts. It's all a test. You're a tough kid." Wow, it's Sweet Valley High for every song, the weak sauce, celebrating the miserable. At least it's almost over.

Song 14, "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," about a Jehovah Witness suit wearing guy who tries to buy some pills from her drug dealing friends, complaining and complaining, calling a man small, with venom and anger become more depression and resentment. This song is dangerous because it's really a crying complaint...

Song 15, "The Alchemy," is about a boy she is not happy with and is telling him she'll get over him and recover and be better than ever for the bad experience. Whew, what a slog. Were there 100 songs like this, and these are the winners? One has to feel what one sings for the singing to sound good. So does she feel this way all the time, year after year, track after track, or is it an act and what the fans want? It's odd to see someone with such a fixation. When Lana does it, singing about dark love all the time, she finds a way to make it interesting. Hooray, it's over, just one more to go:

Song 16, "Clara Beau," is about a girl she's comparing herself to, a remarkable Clara Beau, bringing back themes of dazzling, sparking, rusting as a kind of theme, shining, eclipsing, dying, exaggerating, New York and a small town girl. Taylor in the big city. "You look like Taylor Swift in this life," she says. Could that be right? She's so full of herself that Clara Beau is Tailor Slow? It's SO deep. What was the two theme all the buildup hinted at? We'll leave that to the kiddies on TikTok to figure that out. Is this the world we've come to, violent Kelce with fainting waif Taylor, American royalty? Bleh. 🤢🤮

The first song to be played following all of the others is "Florida" (feat. Florence) and some interesting kind of drumming or bass tapping. Yes, this is one of the better ones with its big bang drumming and Lana theme.

KARMA: Israel's crimes drive IDF Jews crazy

Ashley Wells, Sheldon S., Amber Larson, Dhr. Seven, Wisdom Quarterly

Netanyahu and his rhetoric/lies made me do it!
Ever wonder what the Jewish-Christian expression "God is not mocked" means? If there's no God, at least no God of the sort described by Jews and Christians as omnipotent and omniscient (something dismissed as untrue by the Buddha in a very theistic world of subtle complexity expressed in the voluminous Vedas or "Knowledge Books" of ancient Proto-India known as the Indus Valley Civilization), how do results reach a living being?

Israel's crimes are CIA and US crimes
There are Brahmas (Gods), and even Brahman (godhead or the ultimate reality), but not a "God" that is in control of everything, knowing everything, and the source of everything onto whom we place responsibility for the world being unfair or for all good things happening. So it seems this "god" who is not mocked refers to a lawfulness of the universe, an impersonal truth about things: karma. Karma very simply means the regularity of the universe to yield results corresponding to the quality of the intentions behind our actions and the actions themselves.

What, the bad I did comes back to me?! KARMA is a bitch or a blessing: As we do, so we get.
The glorious IDF (US-funded) war machine
If with a mind beset by greed, hatred/fear, or delusion we act, it will not produce a good (welcome, pleasing, wished for) result. It may seem to, but that is only because the act (the karmic imprint) has not yet yielded its exponential results. Likewise, if we act with an underlying motivation of nongreed, nonhatred/nonfear, or nondelusion, the result cannot fail to be good (welcome, pleasing, wished for). These are very broad categories.

What is wished for when we steal? Greed (craving, desire, hoarding, grasping, lust, avarice, liking) is motivating us. Then we have the thing wished for, the thing stolen. Are we satisfied, are we pleased, are we now ahead on the great scoreboard of life? We would seem to be, but no we are not. And the act (deed, karma) has NOT yet produced its results (whether mental resultants/vipaka or fruit/phala). So it SEEMS to have worked:

The Truth is true whether or not we believe it.
We got what we wanted; crime pays; greed is good (inasmuch as it brings us what we want). What are religions talking about? Virtue yields pain and deprivation, whereas immorality and evil produce welcome results, no? No. The karma (the sin, if you will) has not yet come to fruition, but it will. And when it does, the results shall be unwelcome, displeasing, the very opposite of what we wanted. For example, if we wanted more, we shall have less. If we wanted peace of mind, we'll have worry and fear and anxiety. If we wanted to be rich, we'll be poor.

Beware of promoting Israel by biblical genocide.
So how will a spell of soldiering turn out? The Buddha explained very clearly: It will not end in Valhalla (the Hall of Heroes struck down in battle), not in heaven with 80 virgins (nymphs) at our disposal, patriotic glory. It will end in fear, alcoholism, PTSD, rebirth in hell, shortened lifespan, derangement, guilt, violence, insanity, and much deprivation. This is what governments are doing to subjects/citizens tricked into giving themselves over to the military.

Look at this poor guy, a regular Zionist Jew doing his militant/terroristic duty to the state -- mandatory military service, given the intoxicating power to abuse and kill his neighbors in fear and loathing. What will be the result. We can begin to see what it will be. Listen to him, how glorious his patriotism and bravery, his manliness and machismo, his popularity with the girls inducted into the same army as lures for men to follow.
