First 40 days after death; Bardo Thodol

Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?
Edgar Cayce was once America's "Sleeping Prophet," a healer who channeled many healers, guides, and a mysterious consortium of helpful beings trying to give a message to humanity and those who came seeking cures and answers as to why they were sick. The cures were provided in many case studies preserved by the A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The reason for strange illnesses that didn't seem to have a cause was often found to be past karma from past lives. Cayce was a Protestant Christian. He didn't believe in past lives, as that did not seem biblical nor in line with the belief system of the official church. He, however, studied the Bible and saw that it did teach that there were past lives and it certainly taught that karma (sowing what we reap) was real and an official position of the church today. His psychic abilities were present from childhood, but his greatest power came when he stepped out of the way in a trance like state (mistaken for sleeping) when he channeled information for those seeking it for themselves or others. He worked on much more than health and wellness. He predicted wars, discoveries, stock market trends, and even engineering through remote viewing, once going through a bridge to find defects in its construction. Cayce, who live a century ago, is alive and well today, reborn as David Wilcock (divinecosmos.com). You or anyone can talk to him and ask him questions about that life or this, as he is glad to answer. We almost traveled to Egypt with him to see the pyramids. He is now very busy with his ongoing research and his show on Gaia.com TV. (How can we know Cayce was reborn as Wilcock? Author Wynn Free proved it in his book on the subject, The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?: Interdimensional Communication and Global Transformation).

The Tibetan Book of the Dead: Bardo Thodol
(ReligionForBreakfast) What is the "Tibetan Book of the Dead"? The Tibetan Book of the Dead, or the Bardo Thodol, is arguably the most popular Vajrayana Buddhist text in Europe and the United States. Freud's protege Carl Jung loved it. So did Beatle John Lennon. But why? What is this text all about?

Gnosticism: Why the 'God' traps souls

The REAL reason GOD is TRAPPING souls on Earth | BANNED by the Church | On the Origin of the World
(God's Whisper) The concept of the stolen soul (spirit being, subtle body, mind) is one of the most thought-provoking and haunting ideas in spiritual philosophy, particularly the teachings of Gnostic Christians.

Gnosticism for knowledge and wisdom
This video explores ancient Gnostic teachings that suggest our souls (selves, egos, amalgams explained in Buddhism as the Five Aggregates clung to as self) were ensnared by the Demiurge, a false god who created the material world to keep us trapped in ignorance.

Through texts like On the Origin of the World, we learn that humanity’s fall into this world severed our connection to our true divine/deva-realm (see Aggañña Sutta) origin, chaining us to a cycle of endless rebirths, suffering, distractions, and desires.

The material world we see around us, our bodies, our ambitions, and even our societies all work to keep us ignorant of our true spiritual purpose.

"Soul"? The subtle body pattern of the gross body

I swear to the Demiurge I will F S up: Bible
According to Gnosticism, these external forces are orchestrated by the Archons ("Rulers" Archangels), powerful enforcers of the Demiurge's rule.

The path to freedom lies in Gnosis, an inner awakening that helps us rediscover our divine spark and break free from the illusion.

This video is a guide through the Gnostic view of reality, offering insight into how to reclaim spiritual autonomy and embrace the truth hidden within us.

Buddhist creation myth: Science v Bible

This Buddhist creation myth BEATS Judeo-Christian Bible and Islam's Quran
(Maya Wisdom) Explore the profound teachings of Buddhism's primary creation myth, the Agganna Sutta, and its relevance to modern scientific understanding. This video examines:

1. The Buddhist perspective on cyclical cosmic evolution and devolution
2. How it challenges traditional creation narratives
3. The concept of Dependent Origination and its implications
4. Buddhism's unique approach to deities (devas, light beings, shining ones) and divine intervention
5. The Buddha's emphasis on personal experience over scriptural authority.

Gain insights into how this ancient wisdom offers a transformative view of human nature, societal structures, and our relationship with the cosmos.

A Buddhist Genesis?
Dharma...Evolution (Sugunasiri)
Sadly, the Agganna Sutra is not really a proper creation myth. It is only a general explanation of life on earth, and it doesn't even fully explain that. Its principal interest is to emphasize the power and significance of karma (deeds, those things willed, carried out, and stored up). How did human life begin on this plane, this planet, this earth? One day a light being (possibly a light beam if Dr. Sugunasiri's theory (Dhamma Aboard Evolution: A Canonical Study of Agganna Sutta in Relation to Science) holds up under scrutiny. He suggests it is symbolic or metaphorical, not a literal accounting. The Buddha was famous for being able to take ancient teachings from the subcontinent (proto-India) and earlier Vedic culture, which possibly encompassed the great Indus Valley Civilization and city-states of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, that people would have been familiar with and imbuing them with Buddhist knowledge of life, the universe, and everything. The problem with creation myths, including Science-ism's Big Bang Theory, is that they begin in the middle. For instance:
  • What was that? - Just another Bang
SCIENCE MYTH 1: Once upon a time, before everything came into existence, this happened, then it came into existence in a spontaneous Big Bang.
  • Q: Well, how did that happen if there wasn't anything yet?
  • A: Uh, umm, question does not compute, insufficient data, syntax error, program will now shut down for regularly scheduled maintenance.
  • 4H MYTH: (Popular in the Dharmic religions). One day God (who spontaneously arose in the midst of a great void and nothingness) got bored so He made everything (maya) else to amuse Himself, and to keep it interesting and full of drama (lila) forgot it was just Him (because we're all Him or figments of His imagination in this illusion), so it's alright whatever happens, just a part of a big game with Hells and Heavens, Hierarchies and Holes in the story (so don't read too much into it).
  • God animated dust with breath to create Adam.
    CHRISTIAN MYTH
: (Applicable to all of the Abrahamic faiths, i.e., Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Yazidism, Gnosticism, Bahai, and probably their progenitors Mithraism, Zoroastrianism, ancient Mesopotamian, Babylonian, and Sumerian religion). Once upon a time, God was bored in heaven, so He made a terrarium and populated it with all sorts of creatures and even a little man like Himself, in His own image, called him Adam, gave him a partner named Lilith, whom he later divorced and remarried another named Eve, and had a whale of a time creating other fantastical living beings to be in His garden, even a scaly man who was a big smartass and troublemaker, talking Eve into all kinds of mischief so that He had to empty out the project and toss the main characters to the east, which is how we all came about in this sucky world suffering from the cradle to the grave. Nighty night, no question, time for bed!
  • Our Lady of La Salette Marian apparition (miracle)
Ooh, let's land on that blue-green one! It looks nice and inviting, and we can b*ng there.
We revolve in a cycle until liberation.
  • BUDDHIST MYTH: Once upon a time, in a land near, near this way, two light beings (or beams) alighted on this preexisting celestial body we call Earth, a garden like place, after flying in space and going about in their refined way. They liked it and stayed, and in so doing, they became coarser and coarser, devolving from their previous state.
    Yay for Aldebaran! (Maria Orsic)
  • The beings were engaging in gathering, eating, tasting, and sensual experiences like sex, experiencing the results (vipaka and phala) of their collective deeds (karma), which had a profound impact on their environment, being reborn over and over, until we find ourselves in our present state with people not realizing that the things they say and do had a previous meaning they've forgotten. And that, monks, is how things in the present are like things in the past, and it's always a good idea to keep good conduct, be pure, and evolve back to that Golden Age of Truth (Satya Yuga) when things will be better before eventually, invariably, decline again and devolve in this spiraling cyclical pattern we call samsara.
  • Q: That's a "creation" myth?
  • A: No, where in the sutra does it say anything about "creation"? This is just a story about how humanoid life began on this planet/plane, devolving from a higher plane by the workings of karma.
  • This is how it happened, according to math.
    SCIENCE MYTH 2
: Once upon a time everything declined and collapsed falling in on itself then there was a Big Bounce and it re-expanded until we find ourselves and our universe expanding again as evidenced by the Doppler Effect of the redshift of visible light and there's no discernible beginning or end to it, just like the Buddha taught.
  • In science, anything is possible: Physicists turn light into one-dimensional gas with incredibly strange properties (IFL Science) The Big Bang is utterly dumb as a theory of everything because it says there is no need for miracles except this one. Just grant that everything came out of nothing in a nano-instant then everything else we explain will be rational, lawful (in accordance with demonstrable principles), and predictable.

Mystic rainbow body: Buddhist multiverse

Ancient Aliens: Mystic Secrets Revealed
Each universe has 31 planes
(HISTORY) Aug. 27, 2024: Within esoteric Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism, one may hold the key to accessing alien realms (lokas, planes, dimensions, worlds) through deep meditation for the development of the "rainbow light body."

Once one is in this "enlightened" state, interdimensional and interstellar travel can take place.

This is a clip about Shambhala from Season 16 of Ancient Aliens, "The Lost Kingdom."
  • The King of the Dead Yama judges
The real meaning of "enlightenment" (bodhi) is awakening (budh), which means escape and liberation. From what?
  • It is freedom from the round of endless rebirths (samsara) through countless worlds over incalculable aeons. These worlds are categorized into 31 general "planes." Actually, others are mentioned (such as the "interstitial hells" between bubble universes or world-systems, which are lit up when a Supremely Awakened One arises), so 31 should not be thought of as fixed.
There are countless world-systems (galaxies, universes?) in the 10,000 directions of space.
  • Some only come into existence during the dispensation of a supremely enlightened teacher (a samma-sam-buddha), who brings into being the suddhavati or "Pure Abodes" between this world and final liberation.
  • Tibetan letter "A" ("ahh") inside a thigle
Stories of these special realms open only to partially enlightened beings seem to have been taken by some Mahayana Buddhists to refer to the "Pure Land" of a Cosmic Buddha named Amitabha. Worship of such beings as these other buddhas, like Maitreya, have left the historical Buddha Siddhartha "Shakyamuni" Gautama on the shelf and in the background. Attention and reverence are turned to other figures, who sound remarkably like Brahmanical/Vedic/Hindu deities recast into Buddhist cosmology. Buddhist terms are used to co-opt the popularity of the Buddha's Teachings (Dharma) to divert attention and prominence to the old Brahmins' sacred Vedas. It's very Mahayana yet not so much in line with what the historical Buddha was trying to accomplish in bringing light to the world.
Scientists are cheating, reading mystic texts from the East, catching up to Buddhist cosmology
.
What is the rainbow body?
The rainbow body manifested
In Dzogchen, "rainbow body" (Tibetan འཇའ་ལུས་, Wylie 'ja' lus, Jalü, or Jalus) is a level of realization. This may or may not be accompanied by the "rainbow body phenomenon."

The rainbow body phenomenon is pre-Buddhist in origin [1] and is a topic that has been treated fairly seriously in Tibet for centuries past and into the modern era [likely originating in yogic practices, Brahmanism, and Vedic Hinduism].

Devin, can you give the shortest possible answer?

Other esoteric Vajrayana Buddhist teachings also mention rainbow body phenomena, which occur during or after the dying process.

The rainbow body phenomenon is a third-person perspective of someone else attaining complete knowledge (Tibetan རིག་པ, Wylie rigpa).

Rebirth by karma into planes
"Knowledge" is the absence of delusion regarding the display of the basis. Rigpa has three wisdoms:
  1. kadag,
  2. lhun grub,
  3. thugs rje.
Kadag deals with trekchö [3]. The lhun grub aspect has to do with esoteric practices, such as (but not limited to) tögal, that self-liberate the human body into a Sambhoga-kāya ("rainbow body phenomenon") [3, 4]. More

Let's divide the universe (multiverse) into six realms: demon, animal, human, angelic

Brightest cosmic objects and the Buddha

Dhr. Seven, CC Liu, Sheldon S., Seth Auberon (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly Wiki edit, MSN.com
Our discussion began when scientists announced finding 'brightest object in universe' (MSN)
Brightest known object in the universe was hiding in plain sight for decades (CNN)

Countless worlds in 31 categories or planes
The Buddha, when talking about luminary beings on various planes of existence (devas or "shining ones" and brahmas "supreme beings"), pointed out their remarkable brightness. The strange thing is that it sounds almost as if the objects in the sky (space or akasha) are the beings themselves in various celestial worlds farther and farther away from the base or ground of the earth. This aligns with the ancient practice of many if not all cultures to equate beings (angels, demigods, godlings, Gods, deities, and divinities) with planets and stars, e.g., Gaia/Bhumi, Surya/Sol, Soma/Chandra/Luna, and the local planetary or "celestial bodies").
Even Dr. Steven Greer is adamant that our Earth is a literal living goddess, not a figurative one.

And the Buddha in the Jataka or "Rebirth Tales" speaks of people, himself included, as being reborn as the Sun and Moon. Buddhist cosmology ranks beings and 31 general Planes of Existence, who achieve their rebirth in those exalted worlds by the strength and profundity of their mastery of jhana (meditative absorption, which provides temporary purification). Rebirth is not random or by chance but based on karma. The karma of absorption is miraculous. Moreover, the order of the cosmos, each world-system, includes stations -- such as each world having a "Sakka" and a "Maha Brahma," with people reborn into those positions for a span of time. Sakka, the King of the Devas, is not Sakka; there are many sakkas (Indras, archangels). He is not king of all devas; there are many more devas above him.

Know and see for yourself without authorities.
The same is true of the many kinds of brahmas, or divinities. Maha Brahma or "Great Brahma" is not the only brahma and not at all the greatest brahma, with their being other maha brahmas in other world systems, just as there are other buddhas in other worlds but at most only one in each at any given time. The details or regularities of the universe (multiverse) are explained as the niyamas in Buddhism. What is ultimately unclear is, Are the beings born supreme on a planetary body lending their name to that body, or are they that body? Is Sol, the Sun (Surya in India), a person manifesting as the sun, or does he rule on the sun, like calling this country Joey and its rival Vlad, or imagining that all of our personal names for the local planets are those beings, rather than just powerful personalities on those inanimate worlds.

Reading Eastern and Western texts, one has to assume that the answer is both. Gaia is a being, and this very living planet full of living beings is the impersonal "Mother Nature" personified for animistic religions and astronomers.

Now science has stumbled on something so mindbogglingly bright in the universe that it can hardly fathom it and wants to leave us all in awe, just as the Buddha seemed to experience some awe at the brightness of the brahmas and supernal devas of which/whom he personally knew.
Mapping Buddhist cosmology's grand view of universe/multiverse and its world-systems

Dhamma Aboard Evolution
One resolution to these questions that comforts the Western mind is that the Buddha must have been speaking figuratively. A Buddhist monk with a Ph.D. explains the Buddhist "Genesis story" in a very science-friendly way: Dhamma Aboard Evolution: A Canonical Study of Agganna Sutta in Relation to Science.

The sutra tells the long story of the arising of humanoid life on earth, arriving from space (the heavens or akasha), alighting on this planet, liking it, and becoming increasingly dense and coarsened as they enjoy sensuality here. But what if they are NOT literal personal beings coming down from space and setting foot on a rocky outpost in the sky but rather LIGHT itself congealing here, giving rise to all the life we now see in our world?
  • "Abhassara [shining ones] are taken to be PHOTONS, taking ‘âbhassara’ in a literal etymological sense of ‘hither-come-shining-arrow’" (Ven. Dr. Sugunasiri, Ph.D., Dhamma Aboard Evolution).*
Mystics know what scientists don't
It's a nice possibility that explains the hard-to-believe. But the hard-to-believe is often literally true. It's a matter of how expansive our understanding is, rather than attempting to kowtow to the ever-shifting God "Science."

For instance, we have reason to believe that the 31 Planes of Existence are literally true (unlike Bhikkhu Bodhi's suggestion that maybe they are merely psychological states) and that this can be confirmed by meditation if one develops the eight jhanas and looks for them. We have known people to do it.

Oh, great Buddha, how can we ever know?
It's a nice compromise to see not gods but natural phenomena as being the subject of the sutra made comprehensible for the Buddha's audience, two Brahmins asking how it all began. But if the Buddha is only speaking figuratively, which he might be, he is certainly going into a great deal of detail about these beings, what happened to them, and why.

They came from a world where they fed on joy and flew through the sky. They came here, ate mushrooms (a delightful, savory, fungal mat or biofilm that grew freely), became sexually dimorphic, had sex, enjoyed it, and then began to engage in worse and worse karma, resulting in a change of the environment for the worse: devolution not evolution. But things are cyclical, so evolution returns later in the span of a great aeon (maha kalpa, part of India's staggering conception of geological and cosmic spans of time based on the Vedas, "Knowledge Books," and other seers such as Jainism's founder Mahavira).

Now science tells a new story, lumping unbelievable thing on top of further unbelievable thing. There are black holes. Unbelievable. This is what black holes are. Unbelievable. There are also supermassive black holes. Unbelievable. We don't see them because it's all invisible, but an accretion disk forms at the event horizon, where light and shadow blend and get pulled in by gravity too strong to resist, falling into oblivion and maybe popping out the other end where a white hole gives rise to other universes. And in the process, light is given off by things heating up... Unbelievable. But you have no choice! Believe. Obey. Bow to scientific speculations, and mock mysticism in the process.
  • Eternal oblivion: "cessation of consciousness after death" does not happen because samsaric rebirth (patisandhi) asserts itself and relinks so that there is reappearance, again-becoming, renewed existence again and again...without end until awakening (bodhi).
Science: mythmaking mixed with math
If only we could merge subjective experience of Buddhist meditation with objective science.
.
Priest dressed all in white speaking gibberish
The brightest object in the Universe is a Black Hole that eats a Star a day (msn.com) because He's hungry and the Stars are in his way as he's trying to grow and spin everything around Himself to swallow other competing Black Holes in other parts of Infinite Hyperspace throughout the Multiverse until Doomsday and the End of Time, when even Death shall die and return to the Nothingness from which the Great Big Bang produced itself because it was lonely and needed to know itself through an infinite number of photons it shot out into the inky blackness of space, and that's how we came into being, in God's drama (lila), His play-pretend that we are separate rather than One, and as Priest Einstein tells us, we shall again be One when we wake up from the dream of separation. We can prove it. Here's the proof: E=MC2. If you don't know what that means, tough S. Should have studied Sanskrit and memorized the slokas or merged with Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva or gone to Cambridge Church and the Oxford Temple of Knowledge so that esoteric dons in robes could reveal it encoded in numbers. Thou shalt worship at the feet of Data and learn to love it. And bow to anyone who can spin a tale not contradicted by newer numbers coming from our telescopes and computer models.

Science: brightest thing in the universe

It's the compressed matter around the hole?
Let's ask science, the know-it-alls of objective truth. Q: What is the brightest thing in the universe? A: Quasar J0529-4351, which is a glowing disc of matter around a supermassive black hole, and it is 500 trillion times brighter than the sun.
  • [How much is a "trillion"? It is 1,000 billion. How much is a "billion"? It is 1,000 million. And how much is a "million"? It is 1,000 x 1,000. So how many millions is 500 trillion?]
Here's the evidence. Check our math if you want.
Scientists have now reported evidence of the true conditions in Hell [which is apparently located in the heavens], perhaps because no one has ever returned to tell the tale.

Hell [in Buddhist cosmology, there are many hells, the worst of which is this one, "The Waveless" or Avici] has been imagined as a supremely uncomfortable place, hot and hostile to bodily forms of human life.

You mean you think a black hole makes light?
Thanks to a huge astronomical survey of the entire sky [all of visible space or the akasha loka], we have now found what may be the most hellish place in the universe.

new paper in Nature Astronomy describes a black hole surrounded by the largest and brightest disk of captive matter ever discovered. The object, called J0529-4351, is therefore also the brightest object found so far in the universe. More
*Who were the Ābhassara space beings who gave rise to human earthlings?
Wisdom Quarterly Wiki edit, Section on Spatial cosmology (31 Planes of Existence)
Trying to explain cosmology (MC Owens, SF)
Ābhāsvara worlds (second absorption): The mental state of the devas ("shining ones") of the Ābhāsvara (आभास्वर) worlds corresponds to the second jhana (Sanskrit dhyāna) and is characterized by delight (piti) as well as joy (sukha); the Ābhāsvara devas are said to shout aloud in their joy, crying aho sukham! ("Oh joy!").

These devas have bodies that emit flashing rays of light like lightning. They are said to have similar bodies (to each other) but diverse perceptions. [Humans are said to have different bodies and different perceptions.]

Three Spheres of 31 Planes of Existence
The Ābhāsvara worlds form the upper limit to the destruction of the universe by fire at the end of a mahā kalpa ("great aeon," see Temporal cosmology below), that is, the column of fire [temperature] does not rise high enough to reach them.

After the destruction of the world [world-system, galaxy, cosmos, universe], at the beginning of the vivarta-kalpa, the worlds are first populated by beings reborn from the Ābhāsvara worlds.
Ābhāsvara or Ābhassara in Pali (आभस्सर, Vietnamese Trời Quang Âm, Chinese 光音天, Tibetan འོད་གསལ་, 'od gsal, Thai อาภัสสรา or อาภาสวรา) is the plane of existence of devas "possessing splendor."

The lifespan of the Ābhāsvara devas is eight mahā kalpas (or two mahā kalpas). Eight mahā kalpas is the interval between destructions of the universe by water, which includes the Ābhāsvara worlds. The height of this world is 81,920 yojanas [roughly 573,440 miles] above the Earth. More
