Train like a Jedi: U.S. nun Pema Chodron

Pema Chodron is a wise woman (Medium)
American Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön, author of When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times, is like female Yoda, a character fashioned after a Tibetan Buddhist lama or master (with an ejaculatory speaking pattern and syntax of the 14th Dalai Lama).

Here the great monastic writer has advice on rousing ourselves when energy dwindles. We can train like Jedis under a master and view it as Obi-Wan Kenobi would.

One of Ven. Chödrön's most famous books, When Things Fall Apart, discusses uncertainty and how to find the good in discomfort and difficulty.

It's counterintuitive, but try it.
How can we live our lives when everything seems to fall apart
—when we are continually overcome by fear, anxiety, and pain?

The answer, American Pema Chödrön suggests, might be just the opposite of what we would expect.

Here, in her most beloved and acclaimed work, she shows that moving toward painful situations and becoming intimate with them can open up our hearts in ways we never before imagined.

What will we do then?
Drawing from traditional Buddhist wisdom, she offers life-changing tools for transforming suffering and negative patterns into habitual ease and boundless joy.

Pema Chödrön's perennially best-selling classic on overcoming life's difficulties cuts to the heart of spirituality and personal growth.

Now in a newly designed 20th-anniversary edition, to which she's added a new afterword, it makes for a perfect gift and addition to one's spiritual library.  More

Symptoms of Inner-Peace

Text by Saskia Davis (Wildmind.com)

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner-peace. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to inner peace, and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world.

Signs and Symptoms

  • A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences
  • An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment
  • A loss of interest in judging other people
  • A loss of interest in judging self
  • A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others
  • A loss of interest in conflict
  • A loss of the ability to worry (a very serious symptom)
  • Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation
  • Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature
  • Frequent attacks of smiling
  • An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen
  • An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it

WARNING: If you have some or all of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of inner-peace may be so far advanced as to not be curable. If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed. [It's good for you].

Give Love, Get Love and Happiness Now

Wisdom Quarterly EDITORIAL

I found the secret to love. You can choose it right now, just as you can choose happiness. It's available right here. But I, for one, won't "feel" it simply because I "choose" it. I'm too hardened. So I draw love out by tapping. I'm not after selfish, sloppy, sexy "love." But it is an option once you exude love. I'm after an altruistic, pure heart, with exploding energy LOVE.

The ancient Greeks knew how to distinguish the forms love takes: Agápe (αγάπη, altruistic compassion), Éros (έρως, passion with sensual desire and longing, not always sexual, but more than philia or friendship-love, partnership, appreciation of beauty), Philia (φιλία, friendship, familial, communal dedication, dispassionate virtuous loyalty), and Storge (στοργή, affection).

Unbounded metta (universal kindness, friendliness, connectedness) is the Buddhist all-inclusive term. The Buddha spoke in praise of it again and again -- a love full of concern but free of selfish-attachment. It has close companions in the other "Divine Abidings" here-and-now:

  • karuna (compassion or urge to alleviate others' suffering)
  • mudita (joy-because-of-others'-joy, altruism, sympathy)
  • upekkha (impartiality, equanimity, unbiased regard for all).

Emotional Freedom Technique: EFT (video)

(Magnus Tapping) Visit tapping.com for more Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) videos, EFT articles, and an e-book. EFT is a simple acupressure technique for releasing negative feelings. If one feels negative feelings in the body, one must go to the body to work on them. EFT is one way to do this. Anyone can release a negative feeling right now with this video. This introductory video explains a little bit about how tapping works and takes one through a first few sessions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How hard should I tap?

A: Tap lightly, just so that you feel it. The purpose of the tapping is to bring your attention to different parts of your body. It actually works if you just imagine tapping -- as long as your attention is drawn to the right points.

Q: How can I be sure I am finding the right points?

A: Use two fingers to make sure you cover the points. Sometimes the point will "feel" right, as if there is a slight indent in the skin or the point is particularly sensitive. It's all connected so you don't have to be 100% accurate.

Q: You have missed out points that Gary Craig teaches!

A: Yes. Feel free to tap those too. I left them out to keep the video simple, and it seems to work fine without them. If you find the video doesn't work for you, try tapping the additional points: around the top-middle of the head and just under the armpit.

Q: Is the sequence important?

A: No. You can tap the points in any order. In fact, you only need to tap one or two of the points for each particular feeling. It's just you have no easy way to know which point, so you might as well tap them all.

Negative Feelings: Solution

Tapping.com

The "Emotional Freedom Technique" (EFT) is a simple acupressure technique for releasing negative feelings.

Negative feelings are felt in the body, so one must go to the body to work on or through them.

Negative feelings can be released right now with this video. Tapping can be used to easily clear the chakras (energy centers in the body). This is a very fast, reliable, and easy-to-learn method for clearing chakras inspired by Nicola Quinn.

Q: I am a skeptic! / You are a charlatan!
A: Thanks. Tapping is perfectly explainable scientifically. But it goes beyond most people's understanding. It really does work though. The best way to prove it to yourself is to try it and watch negative feelings disappear.
