On the Buddhist island of Sri Lanka: Sigiriya

Sigiriya: An Incredible Example of Ancient Engineering
Lion's Rock is built on a mesa in the forest.
(Megaprojects) Aug. 19, 2022. Sigiriya or "Lion's Rock" is an amazing feature on the mostly Buddhist island of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon and Serendib). It was a first a fortress then a Buddhist monastic hermitage, famous for its views of the surrounding jungle and terrain. It is famous for its frescoes and ancient graffiti. Simon Whistler does an adequate job of presenting it, but sadly he conflates Moggallana I of Anuradhapura with the famous Buddhist male chief disciple Maha Moggallana, inadvertently using his image as if it were the royal person associated with Sigiriya.
