Pakistani military officials said the Indian military killed a civilian,
the latest in a round of accusations of cross border violations in the
disputed region of Kashmir,
which the two countries claim in its entirety. Tensions flared over the
last week as the relative calm over the Line of Control, the border
that divides Kashmir, was broken after each side accused the other of
breaking a 2003 cease-fire. A Pakistani military official said the
civilian was killed by Indian shelling Tuesday night in
Pakistani-administered Kashmir. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan on Wednesday stressed the need for more diplomacy to cool tensions on both sides.
