PUNK: The Path of Most Resistance (video)

Fugazi: The Path of Most Resistance
(Trash Theory, 9/25/19) Over the years Ian MacKaye* and the band Fugazi have achieved an almost mythic status.

That's not "punk." I'm punk! Check me out.
These paragons of punk ethics, through Dischord Records and their DIY business practices, took independence to its absolute pinnacle.

The band members were serious straight edge vegans who gave up heating in the winter to save the environment and toughen up.

Fugazi, like the earlier Minor Threat, is a band that never said yes.

While their politics and ethics were super important, more than that they were a band that changed things. "Post-hardcore," as flimsy a signifier as it is, was the house Fugazi built.

Deftones: "7 Words" California alternative metal. Super-hardcore emo?

Bands like At the Drive In, Refused, Glassjaw, Biffy Clyro, and Deftones all took note of Fugazi's musical playbook. It is unwise to put bands on god-like pedestals, but in more simple terms than that, Fugazi rocked pretty hard.

Many bands have done great things with less-than-great music. Fugazi did both. But through embellishment and oversimplification, they have become an idea more than a band.

Let's focus on the band. Who were Fugazi? What made them different? And what makes them so much more than simply the band that wrote “Waiting Room”? #fugazi#punkrock#documentary

NOFX takes the air out of these Minor Threat goody two-shoes (lol)
