Nearly 2 1⁄2 years after space enthusiasts on Earth last saw a total solar eclipse, another is on its way, allowing U.S. viewers to see a partial glimpse of the phenomenon, with other parts of the world like Spain seeing totality.
This year’s eclipse falls on the morning of Aug. 12, 2026, allowing people across most of Europe and in northwestern Africa to see the moon something (possibly Rahu) cover or "eclipse" most of the sun.
For most people, including those in the United States, the moon will not completely block the sun, making this year’s eclipse partial, according to NASA's website.
The lucky people in the USA able to view the partial solar eclipse this year include those from Alaska to North Carolina. People in [the small capital country of] Washington, DC [the ruling district of the larger country's original imperial-colonial name, Columbia], will also be able to see it.
In Alaska, the eclipse will happen in the morning, while those in the northern U.S. will be able to see it between midday and midafternoon, NASA said. People near the center of the eclipse path in Greenland, Russia or the North Atlantic will experience the eclipse for a slightly longer period; most people will see the sun eclipsed for less than two minutes, according to NASA. So one day we went to a yoga class in Venice Beach, California, and the instructor told everyone to call him "Maestro." Were Vikings Buddhists? First of all, Vikings is a general term that means "Pirates" more than redheaded Icelandic peoples. Second, what would it have taken for them to be Buddhists?

There is a local Native American legend of a shapeshifting green fireball named Tahquitz (a mountain-dwelling cryptid, the Idyllwild Monster, possibly a jinn or Sasquatch, called yakkha and rakshasa in Buddhism), said to be a spirit or ghoul, only worse because it can transform itself and fly or disappear into and reappear out of solid rock in and around Agua Caliente, where it resides.
No one lives inside rocks because it's impossible.

Anyone who has listened to the careful detective work of former police detective David Paulides (Missing 411) or read his carefully compiled and ever-growing list of more than 1,000 curated cases will know that the greatest danger one is in when one is about to go missing -- disappearing on a hike with companions or becoming so lost that one is never again seen alive -- is when traveling in or near a granite boulder field, such as Yosemite.
There are maps of enormous cave systems in the U.S. that overlap almost perfectly with concentrations of missing persons reports.
Creatures live in those caves, entities haunt them, portals exist in or near them, and there are D.U.M.B.s (deep underground military bases) with guards and agents that utilize, extend, and allow these tunnels, tubes, and caverns to remain in use by or all of these.
Cases in haunted Iceland show that this lore is not limited to some modern hysteria in the United States. Others in the Old World are very familiar with the notion of "hollow hills" and the beings that dwell within. Peer Gynt was a Norwegian confabulator, an exaggerator, a liar, and it bit him in the behind. He should have listened to his fiancée Solveig. But that this Norwegian tale is told reveals the deep-seated belief in ogres, trolls, gnomes, dangerous mountain folk in hollow hills.
One place over all others in the U.S. is famous for these sorts of goings on and that is the mysterious Mt. Shasta. People, particularly children, are abducted and taken "into" the mountain. What does that mean, into the mountain?
It is as if they step right through as in the famous case of the American who went to the Andes near Lake Titicaca to a mysterious portal carved into the side of rock. He learned from the local shaman how to use it with a precise series of whistles and tones. And he succeeded in leaving our dimension and time, vanishing from this side to the other.
He reported that when he passed into the stone, it is as if it were glass. He could see out but could neither be seen nor heard. What if there is a simple -- albeit until now an unbelievable one -- answer to what has been going on in Shasta and elsewhere? These abductions could have been using these high-tech passageways rather than some plasma or other rarefied state of stone to enter and exit.
It seems evident the military did not build these features into the rock and then simply forget about them until reminded by this cowardly explorer who immediately called the authorities. He could have documented, observed, and explored them for everyone. Now they are closed off, lost to explorers, just as infinitely deep holes around the country get raided, cordoned off, and erased from Google Earth maps.
For all the mysteries here, particularly the many subterranean worlds already existing, being built by secret boring technology (though Elon Musk brags he has the biggest borer), there is a cover up. Every weekday, scientists in Southern California go underground and enter a high-speed train system that quickly takes them Nevada, alighting in Las Vegas and being taken out to bases. So go much farther east, and nearly everyone in the country is kept in the dark about this.

Of course, it would be silly, simplistic, and wrong to think that one thing immediately begets another. Samsara is very long, and there is time for bad karma to bear its bitter fruit. There is, however, such a thing as "collective karma," often too slow to save beings from their wrongdoing. For any Buddhist who doubts that, consider the fate of the Shakyas (Sakas, Scythians) in the Buddha's family clan. What became of them and why? They were slaughtered by their offended neighbors, this horror was later explained by being traced back to a time when many of them, having been born in each other's company as so often happens over the course of this long wandering on through samsara, they poisoned a river (apparently unintentionally), killing many fish. But isn't karma "intentional action"? Yes, the act, not the result. They intentionally poisoned the river; they did not intentionally kill the fish. The fish died as a result of their action, which made the results worse. It not only made it worse for individuals involved, it made the results catastrophic for them collectively. The working out of karma is an imponderable thing in detail but knowable in general.

In Hawaiian religion, Pele is the goddess of volcanoes and fire and the creator of the chain of over a thousand Hawaiian Islands.
Often referred to as "Madame Pele" or "Tūtū Pele" as a sign of respect, she is a well-known deity within Hawaiian mythology and is notable for her contemporary presence and cultural influence as an enduring figure from ancient Hawaii [1].
Epithets of the goddess include Pele-honua-mea ("Pele of the sacred land") and Ka wahine ʻai honua ("The earth-eating woman") [2].
In different stories talking about the goddess Pele, she was born from the female spirit named Haumea. This spirit is important when talking about Hawaiʻi's gods as she descended from Papa, or Earth Mother, and Wakea, Sky Father, both descendants of the supreme beings.
Pele is also known as "She who shapes the sacred land," spoken of in ancient Hawaiian chants [3, 4].
The first published stories about Pele were written by William Ellis [5].
According to legend, Pele lives in Halemaʻumaʻu of Kīlauea in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Kīlauea is a currently active volcano that is located on the island of Hawaiʻi and is still being extensively studied [6].
Many Hawaiians believe Kilauea to be inhabited by a "family of fire gods," one of the sisters being Pele who is believed to govern Kilauea and is responsible for controlling its lava flows [7].

The eruption is just a couple of miles north of the town Grindavik.
The entire town of Grindavik was evacuated in November because of seismic activity.
Many evacuees are still living in temporary accommodations.
Iceland volcanic island that's still blackened
A large volcanic eruption is underway in southwestern Iceland, with semi-molten rock shooting high into the air in an area where scientists feared for weeks that such an event would take place.
It's happening about 2 miles north of the town of Grindavik, which had been evacuated last month amid fears that an eruption nearby was likely.
There are signs that Vikings were here.
Earthquakes left some homes damaged in the town, which also prompted evacuations.
This type of eruption is not likely to send a large amount of ash into the air, and therefore, large-scale flight delays and cancellations are not expected.
The eruption is happening about 30 miles southwest of Iceland's capital, Reykjavik (home of chess), along the Reykjanes Peninsula.
