Village Fall Festival, Pasadena (11/22)

WHAT HAPPENED?
Why gather? To build community.
A thousand or so people from the community and far afield gathered on the grounds of Muir High. The main stage moved to the lawn area to accommodate dancing and grooving to live music and DJ Common. The food trucks were barbequing and one maestro of the kitchen had special raw vegan offerings -- three kinds of savory pizza and plantain cinnamon rolls. The most attractive offerings among all the nonprofit stalls and kiosks was the Healing Village with yoga, breathwork, sound baths, reiki, massage, and energy healing under tents. Even visitors from Pacific Palisades enjoyed it. It was six hours of socializing and visiting a booth to go on camera to tell the tale of Altadena and the area before and after the Eaton Fire.

Help wanted creating Ekaterina Sky's mural

Fellow Los Angeles Fire victims, navigating through Altadena and seeing murals on some of the remaining walls is encouraging. From the ashes of our communities, people are offering art as visual support.

Wisdom Quarterly is inviting artist Ekaterina Sky, who once had a studio in Lincoln Heights, to form a group (art collective) to adorn another wall.

She envisions people affected by the fire coming together to set intentions for Los Angeles and the planet and create a mural.

This is to express loss and instill a sense of wonder and hope, bringing community together to envision a new world.

If interested in participating (or know of an available wall), please contact Ekaterina and us at:

FREE: Spring Festival Pasadena (5/24)

WHAT HAPPENED?
Flyer for the Village Spring Festival
It was a massive success with more than 2,000 guests. That means it will be back, and this may become its permanent location. It was formerly held biannually in Altadena behind Oh Happy Days Vegan Cafe and Rhythms of the Village by the secret pot shop that got raided. The Aztec Dancers dazzled as did the drum troop. There was a whole healing area with FREE massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, reiki, yoga, an Aztec sound bath, and spiritual healing tents all in the service of healing the community. It is a very big campus, and the main stage was not the focus. There was a raw vegan chef (Henry Chukwurah of Lawndale at 310-628-8991) and various food trucks spread throughout, with lots of community service agencies and arts and crafts vendors. The dancing was all around the various music acts that followed a long jam by Onochie and Friends. This might be better as a multi-day event that goes deep into the evening like an Asian Night Market.

Leap in solar energy technology achieved

Jeremiah Budin, MSN News Technology, 2/25/24; Eds., Wisdom Quarterly
If this is really what the solar system contained, we'd have a photo of everything in one frame
.
Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, have succeeded in creating a system that can capture and store solar energy for up to 18 years and can produce electricity when connected to a thermoelectric generator. The implications of this breakthrough are major: with it, solar energy can be stored and sent anywhere in the world then converted into electricity on demand. More:

Learn and practice hands on healing w/ Reiki

Ananda (Dharma Buddhist Meditation), Wisdom Quarterly; Huntington Beach Reiki

The world needs healers, and our meditators need all the support they can get.

Why? Learning to relax body and mind to be able to cultivate mindfulness and insight is simple, but it's not easy.

Calling all natural sensitives and those wishing to learn to soothe the pain of suffering beings.

We'll be like the deva Avalokitesvara ("The One Who Hears the Cries of the World") raised to the status of Buddhist Goddess of Compassion: Kwan Yin (Kwannon, Guanyin, the Virg Yin Mother).
  • For CARPOOLING from LA area, please contact Seven.
EVENT
There are seven main chakras along the spine
Enjoy an evening of meditation, Reiki (reiju = "attunement"), and healing. Get attuned then get right to sharing healing energy with one another.

This is a great way to meet others and practice developing healing skills. For anyone new to it, come enjoy a night of being healed. Everyone will receive an attunement (to be able to do Reiki) during this session. Everyone welcome.

Spring Equinox: FREE Nature Walkabout (3/18)

Dhr. Seven, Cathy, Ananda (Dharma Buddhist Meditation), Jen, Wisdom Quarterly

Breathing begins to move the prana/chi/qi.
It's Spring Equinox and Los Angeles finally has enough water and a snowline to green our hills and meadows.

Come enter the forest (sacred Hahamongna now Pasadena's Watershed Park) for a walkabout and art paint out.

Guard the land; it supports all
It honors the Tongva American-Indians. Meet Hahamongna Plant Nursery and Arroyo Seco Foundation's Tim Brick, the Conservancy's Tim Martinez, and others local land stewards and volunteers.

Learn about the local flora and fauna -- the healing plants, mushrooms, and wildlife of the foothills -- and have a special energy healing (Reiki and Jyorei) offered by Seven and Cathy.

As we gather near JPL and the Gabrielino Trail next to the Pasadena River (headwaters of the old Porciuncula* now the Arroyo Seco), we will sit, enjoy yogic ecstatic breathwork, energy healing, and socializing at our station.

  • *LA's original name, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula ("The Settlement of Our Lady Queen of the Angels of Porciuncula," the LA River named after St. Francis' church, Italy).
Buy local and plant local native plants.
(Yes, a large river runs through Pasadena even if few know about it and the city is doing much to divert and block it so that it nearly dries up before reaching the Rose Bowl.)

This riparian environment will be introduced to participants to protect local habitat and welcome spring.

Also happening on the grounds in the upper parking lot at the end of the entrance road is our friends' simultaneous event:

YOGA: Breathe like Darth Vader (video)

ERB; Adriene; Melissa Eisler (chopra.com); Dhr. Seven, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Learn the Victorious Breath (Ujjayi Pranayama). Let's focus on breathing techniques of inspiration for yoga fueled by the breath (prana). Ujjayi is a great tool for Hatha Yoga and is used to focus the mind and assist in the synchronizing movement and breath. Connect to the ocean's sound and ride the wave of breath (yogawithadriene.com). Intro song by Shakey Graves (facebook).

Learn Ujjayi, an Ancient Yogic Breathing Technique
Looking to simultaneously relax and energize mind and body? The answer may be an ancient yogic breathing technique called Ujjayi.

Ujjayi (pronounced oo-jai) is commonly translated as “Victorious Breath” and has been used for thousands of years to enhance Hatha Yoga practice. Also commonly referred to as the “Oceanic Breath” and occasionally “Darth Vader Breath,” the sound that Ujjayi provides helps us to synchronize breath with movements during yoga posing, making the entire yoga practice more rhythmic.

Benefits of Ujjayi Breathing
Ujjayi has a balancing influence on the entire cardiorespiratory system, releasing feelings of irritation and frustration, encouraging calm and serenity as it helps calm mind and body. With Ujjayi, there are many benefits, providing good value for a simple practice. Here are a few benefits one may enjoy as a result of practicing the Ujjayi breath regularly: More

Breatharianism: "Light" documentary (video)

LightDocumentary.com; Eliza Darcey, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Light: a free food source humans can consume
Can we live without eating any food or taking any drink? Yes. But, but, but...

Whatever we may want to say about it or however much doubt we bring to the topic, some people are already living without food and drink.

The Bodhisatta (Buddha-to-be) almost did it once with the help of devas, who wanted to pour deva food into his pores. But he did not want to mislead people who widely knew that he was fasting and/or living on very little food.

There are documented cases of people who are alive today without taking in calories or liquids, just breath (prana, chi, qi, kyi, spiritus).

It is possible to live on sunlight like plants and to produce sustenance in the form of the nectar of the devas, amrita, from under the tongue with yogic exercises and pranayama or "breath control." More

Anyone inspired by "In the Beginning There Was Light” and its message or by the articles on breatharianism (subsisting by "eating" only breath) on the lightdocumentary.com site may share information with the community via website, blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...

"10 YEARS OF RESEARCH AND 5 YEARS OF FILMING"

Director P.A. Straubinger did ten years of research on the controversial topic of inediam a.k.a. "breatharianism." He writes in his extensive director's statement about the scientific and philosophical background of "Light," its message, possible misunderstandings, and unpublished research material.

As I write this statement in the background section I will allow myself to answer the tagline of my film right away because it creates so much misunderstanding. This is a "spoiler." So if you have not seen the film and want to be surprised, please STOP reading! More

Love Bomb Meditation, Yoga, Massage (free)

The marriage of wisdom and compassion
What will it take to for Buddhist meditation (the development of calm and insight) to be possible?

FREE $100 massages? At our "Read, Practice, Hugs" session, everyone agreed love is often the missing ingredient.

There were so many endogenous chemicals (third eye/pineal gland secretions of DMT) flowing around the room that we agreed to make a hugging option a regular feature of our sessions.

This week we'll relax with Yoga Massage for self and others, open hearts with powerful Ecstatic Breathwork and Reiki to reach profound states of serenity. Followed by mindfulness exercises and a group reading of the Heart Sutra.

What to bring: Loose comfortable top to expose back, towel, water, crystal (optional), vegan snacks and RAW juices for sharing and socializing.
