Kendrick Lamar in LA: Juneteenth (watch)

Watch full set live from Kia Forum, Los Angeles (before it's taken down) professionally filmed:
With all this talk of joy (Buddhist piti) around Juneteeth, here's some sincere laughter at wokeness

It's time we bring Bloods and Crips together for a truce, peace, and music. It's a good day to see Kendrick at LA's Kia forum, singing about his bloody beef with Jewish Canadian rapper Drake, on Juneteenth. When he first hit big, singing about trying to quit alcohol in Compton and dreaming of jumping into pools of booze, everybody already knew him and all the lyrics to every song. We were at Staples, and everyone was jumping in the pit area so much that the floor sagged and bounced.

That punkazzbiznatch Drake, he's not like us.
It was scary and seemed like it could collapse. He had Dr. Dre as his special guest. Soon after that he pulled a stunt of coming to a sporting event on a bus for a free post-show concert. It turned into a riot -- a mob of fans and LAPD tactics and helicopters trying to beat down what they viewed as chaos. The Forum is right in the middle of "South Central" near LAX Airport, which is now converted to a gentrified venue and pricey parking. It's going to be madness.

Dharma and Emancipation: Reflections on Juneteenth with Dr. Kamilah Majied
Author, former Ohio State University Prof, Alexander wins Heinz Award (WOSU Public Media)
.
The Book of Joy (Dalai Lama)
(Tricycle) June 19th is called "Juneteenth," a holiday celebrating the end of American slavery. Although such slavery continues, at least it's mostly legal and bigger now than ever but transformed.

What ended was chattel slavery or treating people (Native Americans, Black, Caribbeans, and indentured servants from around the world) as "property" or chattel. Well, it didn't end for everybody. In Texas it continued an extra two years because no one bothered to tell the Black slaves that they were now legally free by federal decree under Pres. Abe Lincoln. That post-Civil War freedom is what Juneteenth is commemorating.
Joyfully Just (Dr. Majied)
Juneteenth is an important federal holiday in the United States, a date celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans (and the many Native Blacks who were here before the Atlantic slave trade and not brought over, escaped, and assimilated to an utterly foreign environment. Blacks were in what is now the US 50,000 years ago when Austral-Aboriginals made it here from overseas.
.
But there is so much more to Juneteenth that we can reflect on and unpack within that meaning. What is the significance of Juneteenth from a Dharma perspective?

Joy Degruy discusses PTSS, historical omissions
“Everyone can practice with and reflect on Juneteenth as a part of their liberation from the effects of enslavement, including waking up to the aspects of their lives that are impacted by the power, oppression, and privilege dynamics that are residuals of the enslavement of African heritage people,” writes Dr. Majied in her forthcoming book Joyfully Just, Black Wisdom and Buddhist Insights for Liberated Living.

Man, my struggle is for the ppl, the human ppl
“We can practice with Juneteenth as a portal to reclamation of connection and authentic living in the truths of our shared existence.”

In this hour-long conversation with Tricycle’s Associate Web Editor Amanda Lim Patton, Buddhist mental health therapist, professor of social work, and inclusivity and equity consultant Dr. Majied joins to explore how the residuals of slavery in this country and globally compromise our experience of and insight into interdependence, the connection we all share.

Can we laugh with Black comic's observations?

US Native American Poet Laureate Joy Harjo
Dr. Majied discusses the significance of Juneteenth; what Buddhism says about emancipation, liberation, and freedom; the parallels between Buddhism and Black wisdom traditions; healing the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma and finding inner freedom, more.

Carl Schwab wants you to eat bugs and worms
(Bright Insight) Premiered June 10, 2024: #30 on Trending. This 2024 update on progress to excavate at Göbekli Tepe is genuinely shocking and disturbing.
What is underneath?
"We are going to leave further excavations (beyond the 5% so far uncovered) to future generations"?  That's what someone said and what the team intends to do because of Schwab. Attention is being turned to an older neighboring site, another tepe or tell (Karahan Tepe or Gürcü Tepe?) instead. Which billionaire is making this decision? What does Klaus "World Economic Forum" Schwab (not to be confused with the original German archeologist to excavate here Klaus Schmidt) have to do with it? What are they hiding under structures and by planting an orchard of trees on an arid and barren hillside that cannot easily be dug up the more it grows and becomes established? Even ground penetrating radar will have trouble seeing what's underneath. What are they keeping buried, unexcavated, and therefore secret?

RAP: Rolling Loud Cali Festival (livestream)

Rolling Loud (RollingLoudCa.com); Bela, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Single Day Passes

Performing: Kanye West
It's funny how rock 'n roll, which really isn't that popular but has diehard fans, can manage massive festivals. Pop stars are obliged to perform at well-organized exhibition shows for radio station conglomerate that play their songs by pay-to-plays schemes or tit for tat arrangements. But what about rap and hip-hop? Rolling Loud California  has it covered with the biggest rap festival we have ever heard of, stretching from March 14th opening night to St. Patrick's Day March 17th, 2024. Plenty of Irish will attend fo'shur because there are only so many times one can see Flogging Molly. There probably is no way to sleep on the grounds, but the hotels and Airbnbs are full or charging so much that it would be better and cheaper$299-$799 (plus fees, taxes, charges, nonrefundable processing stipends, associated remuneration add-ons, and of course wharfage). But WAIT! There's an easier way: scroll down and watch it HERE for FREE! We're sure the Devil would be happy, the Devil being the owner of Nicki "Roman" Minaj's soul, one Lil Wayne of Young Money Entertainment record label.  to fly back home and return each night. But there are packages to cover sleeping arrangements. Good luck parking (take a shuttle). Must be at least 16 to attend and no drugs (lol), but there will probably be drugs. Inglewood used to be the ghetto, but now the price of houses has tripled to live next to the freeway and under the airport. The show doesn't really start until Friday. Bottom line, how much is this going to cost? How about all this and less for Rolling Loud 2024

What's the big deal? The lineup:
Is there any chance Trump will be there? Yes, he needs the Black vote real bad.

Going to h*ll w/Avenged Sevenfold+Pussy Riot

A7X, Pussy Riot (AP); Saint Xero, 6/6/23; ACA, 1212/19; Eds., Wisdom Quarterly
This band sucks! They're a bunch of jocks who somehow made it big pretending to be Goth G'n'R.
Avenged Sevenfold is coming to LA with Pussy Riot (June 9). We have to go.to see PR.

Come to our L.A. shows. It's an art spectacle!
It wouldn't be H*LL without anti-Putin activist Nadya of Pussy Riot fame. Avenged Sevenfold came back to Los Angeles after a long hiatus. They have a new album to push, Life is But a Dream, and they were cool enough to put Pussy Riot on the bill. Nadya, the face of the band (or anarcho-feminist-collective), has been in Los Angeles recently, opening up her new product line, a fashion statement of balaclavas (those cute, knitted masks for rioting in Russia's cold weather, kind of like our pussy cat pink caps).
A7X and Pussy Riot live in LA (June 9th, 2023)

Life is But a Dream...in two minutes
A7X is very popular after the band's release of Life is But a Dream. Here it is in two minutes.

Exorcist reveals his haunting experiences

(A Current Affair) A priest (Fr. Vincent Lampert) in the U.S. is one of the world's few Vatican-trained exorcists. He speaks about some of his most haunting experiences and why he believes exorcisms are on the rise today as religion declines. Full episodes: bit.ly/2qlfdmd. #ACA #TracyGrimshaw

"Mattel" (official visualizer)
(Avenged Sevenfold) The new A7X album is LIBAD, and the best song on it might be "Mattel." It was written and recorded over the span of four years and tracks from it will be heard live on Friday (6/9/23). It was inspired by the depressing writings and Western philosophy of Albert Camus with Wes Lang art encapsulating the theme of existentialism: a7x.lnk.to/libad. #AvengedSevenfold #LifeIsButADream #Mattel

Pussy Riot opens for Avenged Sevenfold (LA)

Nadya, MSNBC, A7X, Amber Larson, Dhr. Seven, Pfc. Sandoval (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
What/who is "Pussy Riot"? Sure it's a feminist collective, but it's really Russian Nadya.
Pussy Riot: Wisdom Quarterly: American Buddhist Journal
Dictator Putin: First Ukraine siding with the West and trying to join NATO, now this?

.
I'm starting at the bottom of music.
It's finally happened! Our favorite all-girl punk group, Pussy Riot, is coming to town. (So move over The Linda Lindas, and let the ladies show you how it's done). Sadly, Nadya & Company went downhill after the heady days of denouncing Putin in Russia and the great Russian Patriarch of the Eastern Imperial Russian Orthodox Church (because church and state mix in the Russian Empire, the former USSR) and being praised by Ukrainian topless activists Femen. Downhill? Now Nadya has gone to the dark side, imitating (musically and thematically) popular Satanists like South African Die Antwoord ("Hey Fatty Boom Boom") and opening for likes of American emo-goths Avenged Sevenfold (A7X).

Contaminated by lowly unclean spirits: Avenged Sevenfold made a dark deal
