76th Chinatown Moon Festival (5 pm-12 am)

La Placita celebrates the founding of Los Angeles at noon then at 5:00 it's the Moon Fest

LOS ANGELES, California - Chinatown celebrates its 76th Annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival on September 13th, 2014. The Moon Festival, known as the Zhongqiu Festival in China, is a harvest celebration dating back over 3,000 years.

Traditionally, farmers celebrated a bountiful harvest by gathering family and friends to admire the bright harvest moon and eat moon cakes.

New Chinatown’s first Moon Festival was originally a fundraiser for WWII relief efforts. It has evolved over the years, fusing traditional ceremonies with modern activities. Since the first Moon Festival in 1938, the annual tradition marks a popular cultural highlight.

The 76th Annual Moon Festival on Saturday, Sept. 13th, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 12:00 am takes place in Chinatown’s Central and West Plaza. More
