If anyone says that English is the language of the imperial oppressor -- the invader, the conqueror, the destroyer of Native Americans and pre-Columbian culture, s/he has to remember that so is Spanish. Both the Spanish and British came as imperial armies to exploit the land and consequently decimated the population of 100 million that we pretend was nonexistent and in need of "saving."
The Europeans did a number on the Americas, and one of the worst most consequential crimes was the banning and stamping out of Native American languages, such as Nahautl of the Aztecs/Mexica tribe and Mestizo descendants. There is a movement to bring it back and with it reclaim the culture that was taken away. Nahuatl is a group of languages in the Uto-Aztecanlanguage family in Mesoamerican history.
