Gangsta's Paradise: Coolio vs. Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn, poor white country music icon, dead at 90
(ABC News) Oct. 4, 2022. Poor Kentucky coal miner's daughter Loretta Lynn released an unheard of 50 studio albums in her life, most recently "Still Woman Enough" in March 2021. How did she die? asks friend Dolly Parton. She was from around the way in Butcher Holler, Kentucky. What's a country girl from poor Appalachia to do? When she started, was she any better off than a young Black man on the mean streets of Los Angeles, aka "Gangsta's Paradise"?

Let's take a "Fantastic Voyage" to see what life was like for cool Coolio, one of the first rappers to gain super success. He died unceremoniously at 59 on the floor of his friend's bathroom. Lynn ate it in bed at 90, a sweet old belle dying in her mansion on her mega estate. How far have we come in this country where Black men and country women are able to succeed but only as the exception to the rule?
