Sex and the Thug Life, South Korea, China

Girls so angry, they could become K-Pop Demon Hunters to defeat all the bad guys around.

The crime South Korea still can't forget: The Miryang Case
This isn't how K-pop presents girls, is it?
(CrimeHub) The Miryang middle school girl gang rape case was a series of gang rapes that occurred in Miryang, South Korea in 2004.
Forty-four or so underachieving male high school students gang raped children, female high schoolers, over the course of 11 months [1].

The case caused a public outcry due to police mistreatment of the victims who finally came forward, insensitivity to their plight and danger, the bungling of the case, and the offenders' very light punishments.

Background
I hope I didn't influence them (Ariana Grande)
The victims lived in Ulsan and Changwon, while the perpetrators were from Miryang and Changwon [2]. The perpetrators were initially believed to be members of a high school gang [3], but little evidence for this was found [4] by bungling and unmotivated police on the case.

The gang reached the first female 14-year-old victim over the phone. When she met the gang members, she was sexually assaulted, the whole scene filmed on video to blackmail and extort her.

According to police, she was raped 10 times by three to 24 high school boys at each occurrence. At least 44 boys were involved in the attacks over a period of 11 months [1, 3]. But 70 more were later discovered to be affiliated.

The sexually assaulted girl was ordered to bring her 13-year-old sister and 16-year-old female cousin to Miryang the next time [3] so they could also be gang raped, which is where the cousin was sexually assaulted.

The original police report stated that the younger sister was sexually assaulted as well, but it may only have been a physical assault [4]. The attackers extorted money from their victims [5].

After the sisters' aunt reported the gang rapes to the police [1], only three of the boys were arrested. Following protests from the victims and an outraged public, another nine students were arrested, and 29 were charged.

The horny pervert of China: psycho killer

The perpetrators family members threatened the victims, warning them that they should "watch out for reporting our sons to police" [3]. They were never charged for the crimes of intimidating witnesses, interference with an active case, or terroristic threats.

Difficult Women (Helen Lewis)
In a television interview, a female parent of one of the offenders stated, "Why should we feel sorry for the victim's family? Why don't you consider our suffering? Who can resist temptation when girls are trying to seduce boys? They should have taught their daughters how to behave in order to avoid this kind of accident" [5].

One girl victim reportedly quit school after repeated visits and verbal abuse from the offenders' parents [6], and the original victim is said to have attempted suicide on various occasions. More

Blame the old culture or the young music?

OMG, we're not gay! We're K-pop boy idols.
K-pop (Korean 케이팝, RR Keipap, an abbreviation of "Korean popular music" [1]) is a form of popular music originating in South Korea [2]. The music genre that the term is used to refer to colloquially emerged in the 1990s as a form of youth subculture, with Korean musicians influenced by Western dance music, rap, hip-hop, R&B, and rock [3, 4, 5]. Today, K-pop commonly refers to the musical output of teen idol acts, chiefly all-girl groups and androgynous boy-bands, who emphasize visual appeal and performance [6] over substance and individual expression.

Life in the "civilized" West

They represent a corporate approach to profit making and an illusory bigger-than-life persona and emphasis on PR (public relations). As a music genre, K-pop is characterized by its melodic quality and cultural hybridity [7, 8, 9]. K-pop can trace its origins to "rap dance," a fusion of hip-hop, techno, and rock popularized by the group Seo Taiji and Boys, whose experimentation helped to modernize South Korea's contemporary music scene in the early 1990s [10, 11, 12]. Their popularity with teenagers led the music industry to start to focus on this demographic. More

Hispanic Heritage Month: Art Laboe radio

National Hispanic Heritage Month continues until the middle of October, as we approach Halloween, Samhain, and El Dia de Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). Many Southland Latinos fondly remember Armenian AM DJ Art Laboe.

National Hispanic Heritage Month (Spanish Mes nacional de la herencia hispana) is annually observed from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic culture to the nation's achievements, culture, and history [1][2].

Mexican Buddhist Cholos of Bangkok

The threat of cancel culture kills free expression
The Google Corporation (Alphabet, Inc.) is mad at us for daring to run an AFP story on the "Mexican Buddhist Cholos of Thailand."

Perhaps the algorithm did not like the use of the word Mxn or gngstrs or maybe it's the combination of the two terms too close together. They don't tell you; they just cloak it behind a censorship warning.

But this is an amazing phenomenon showing American hegemony and its unintended consequences.

Imagine traveling to Asia and seeing all these homeboys and homegirls straight outta Los Angeles standing around, all tatted up, with lowriders, the de rigueur fashions, and gesturing to each other as they smoke, drink, and presumably g*ngbang. lol. You'd never imagine you were in Japan, but you would be.

It would be a sight, the Chicano Movement spread to Asian Buddhists with a fashion sense. How did it go from LA to Tokyo to Bangkok? Much of it has also spread to strange midwestern states in the USA, but that's due to drugs and dealers.

It is all supposed to be Nuestra Cosa, y'know, an L.A. thang. Y'all wouldn't understand, just as so much of what goes on in the South is a [Confederate] thang.

B Real and Cypress Hill, Los Angeles g*ngbangers and Latino rappers with their fresh track "Crazy"
(Coconuts TV) Coconuts TV Exclusive [is nuts and has] weird, wonderful, and real stories from Asia. Subscribe: bit.ly/CoconutsTV. There's a curious new trend that has emerged in Bangkok, Thailand [LA's parallel city in Asia, both sharing a very long name and both being about the same size, two megalopolises.] Young Thai men [and females, too] are dressing up like Latino gangsters. Most of these guys say they are motivated by their passion for the "gangster" lifestyle and clothes [but the more recent ones have gotten into the world-fanmous lowrider car culture, probably due to rap videos glorifying it]. Coconuts TV met up with three [faux Theravada Buddhist] "gangs" -- Balcony Pain, Fratez, and D Sixty -- for a photoshoot and to learn more about the quizzical phenomenon. #cholos #bangkok #thailand Music: Down AKA Kilo - "Lean like a Cholo"

Mexican Buddhist Cholos of Thailand

WARNING: Graphic use of recreational cannabis (ganja, weed, pot, dope, marijuana, Maryjane, etc.)
Oh, is this why Cypress Hill likes "Fat Happy Buddha" (actually not the Buddha but Budai) so much?
Meet Thailand's 'Chicano' Buddhist community
(AFP News Agency) AFP (Agence France-Presse) is funded in whole or in part by the French government. [Did some Thai people just get back from Tokyo, Japan, or Los Angeles, California?]

Dressed in baggy t-shirts and jeans, with bandanas and wraparound sunglasses only partially obscuring their intricate tattoos, Thai Buddhists can now be seen gangbanging on Bangkok's sweaty gangland streets, celebrating a fusion of their own Buddhist and Mexican American (Chicano) culture each weekend.

But while the Chicano Movement in the US began as a political and social force aimed at battling oppression, its Thai interpretation is focused more on its aesthetics and cool style.

Irish rappers who rap in Gaelic? (Kneecap)

KNEECAP | official trailer (2024)
Ireland can never be free so long as England has a colonial chokehold on it. Free Ireland!
.
Jump around, Lads, like HOP!
(Sony Pictures Classics) Summer 2024: White men can't jump. Everyone knows it. But can they rap as in craic (pronounced \crack\) with a tune like they're reading Joyce on molly to a beat on the ones and twos? That, mate, is the question. This trio is like the white version of the Beastie Boys. lol This is a true story, though not a full documentary, about a crew of Celtic rappers in the Irish language, singing about what they see going on around them. Is it a first? What about House of Pain, following on Latin Thug rappers Cypress Hill? It's been done in the States, but had it ever been done in Dublin, p*ssing off the Unionist Protestants still reeling from the glorious Battle of the Boyne?

Jimmy O'Fallon welcomes the lads to his US TV show: "Sick in the Head"

Written and directed by Rich Peppiatt. Starring Naoise Ó Cairealláin “Móglaí Bap,” Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh “Mo Chara,” JJ Ó Dochartaigh “DJ Provaí,” Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best, with Simone Kirby and Michael Fassbender.
(Late Late Show) Controversies, rapping in Irish, storming Sundance

Synopsis
If you're born Irish, you're lucky enough.
When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed "low life scum" Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip-hop act like no other.

Rapping in their native Irish language, Kneecap fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights Movement to save their mother tongue (Gaelic to us, just called "Irish" in Ireland).

But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries, politicians trying to silence their defiant sound -- whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies.

We love sports risking kneecap injuries!
In this fiercely original sex, drugs, and hip-hop biopic, the musical group Kneecap play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures. #Kneecap #OfficialTrailer #SonyClassics

Rapper Lil Jon's "Total Meditation" (NPR)

Sensei Rap Guru Lil Jon; Usher, ft. Ludacris; CC Liu, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Just a few years ago Lil Jon was producing booze-promoting trashy rap hits like "Yeah!"

WARNING: Filth, "Yeah!" by Usher song featuring Lil Jon (who also produced the song) and Ludacris is a crass, vulgar sexual exploitation pop-rap hit song that got so big it catapulted Usher to the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Taylor Swift dancing in the bleachers to it and amping up footballer Travis Kelcey to win and go party on the Vegas strip with strippers and alcohol after the game.

Ayesha Rascoe, NPR, March 3, 2024 (7:59 am ET) Weekend Edition Sunday (8-min listen)
A moment of Zen from NPR's Ayesha Rascoe (pronounced \eye-eesh-uh ross-koh\): She talks to rapper DJ producer Lil Jon who's all turnt up about his new guided spoken word album, Total Meditation, finding peace while being the life of the party. [He got uh kol'ina'skuppy at fiddy, so maybe he koming dahn? It's a Southern thang (Rascoe's accent) y'all woodent git it.]

Lil Jon "Deep Relaxation" (official audio)
If you shake your bottle rocket and hold it in your crotch, it'll pop off and shoot everywhere.
.
(LIL JON) Feb. 16, 2024: Now let's see if we understand this. The vulgar featured rapper who produced and sang on "Yeah!" with King of R&B Usher and Ludacris has had a change of heart and started practicing meditation?

(LMAFO ft. Lil Jon) "Shots" about binge drinking in social situations

Rapper/meditator Lil Jon
Moreover, he likes it so much, he's teaching meditation and laying down relaxation tracks on his latest album instead of the mindless rap and hip-hop songs fans expected?

Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu! (aka Hallelujah!) We're incredulous, but NPR's Blackest voice ever, Ayesha Rascoe from the Deep South (Durham, N.C.), assures us it's true on NPR radio ads.

She will be featuring the gangsta-rapper-cum-meditation-guide on tomorrow's episode of Weekend Edition Sunday (3/3/24).

Tune in to NPR at 8:00 am (Eastern), or at 2:00 pm (Pacific) as it repeats on scpr.org.

The Thug Life Sutra (discourse)

"Latin Thugs" by Cypress Hill with Mexican B Real, Scandinavian DJ Muggs, and Black Sen Dog, et al.

The Buddha explains how rare a human rebirth is with a powerful simile of a turtle and a floating wooden ring.
Dhr. Seven (trans.), Ashley Wells (ed.), Chiggala Sutta, "A Hole 1," Sacca Samyutta (SN 56.47) via suttafriends.org, Beth Upton (bethupton.com) recommendation
Karma: Giselle Bundchen saves sea turtle
“Meditators, suppose a person were to throw a piece of wood with a single hole in it into the ocean -- and there were a blind turtle in that ocean who popped up only once every hundred years.

“What do you think? Would that blind turtle, popping up once every century, ever poke its neck through the hole in that piece of wood?”

“Only after a very long time, venerable sir, if ever.”

“Meditators, I say, that blind turtle, popping up only once every hundred years, would poke its neck through the hole in that piece of wood sooner than a foolish person who has fallen into [rebirth in] the lower worlds would be reborn again as a human being.

[The thug life]
“Why is that? Meditators, it is because in lower worlds there is no Dharma practice or accruing merit.

“In the lower worlds [subhuman rebirths known as the downfall*], they just prey on each other, preying on the weak.

“Why is that? It is because they have not seen the Four Noble Truths. What four [ennobling truths]?
  1. the ennobling truth of suffering
  2. the ennobling truth of the origin of suffering
  3. the ennobling truth of the end of suffering
  4. the ennobling truth of the path that leads to the end of all suffering.
I look nothing like a turtle! (Mitch McConnell)
“Therefore, meditators, make an effort to understand: ‘This is suffering.’ Make an effort to understand: ‘This is the origin of suffering.’ Make an effort to understand: ‘This is the end of suffering.’

“Make an effort to understand: ‘This is the path that leads to the end of all suffering.’”

Gangsta's Paradise: Coolio vs. Loretta Lynn

Coolio; Loretta Lynn, ET; ABC News; Sheldon S., Seth Auberon, A. Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Loretta Lynn, poor white country music icon, dead at 90
(ABC News) Oct. 4, 2022. Poor Kentucky coal miner's daughter Loretta Lynn released an unheard of 50 studio albums in her life, most recently "Still Woman Enough" in March 2021. How did she die? asks friend Dolly Parton. She was from around the way in Butcher Holler, Kentucky. What's a country girl from poor Appalachia to do? When she started, was she any better off than a young Black man on the mean streets of Los Angeles, aka "Gangsta's Paradise"?

Let's take a "Fantastic Voyage" to see what life was like for cool Coolio, one of the first rappers to gain super success. He died unceremoniously at 59 on the floor of his friend's bathroom. Lynn ate it in bed at 90, a sweet old belle dying in her mansion on her mega estate. How far have we come in this country where Black men and country women are able to succeed but only as the exception to the rule?

Cypress Hill: I got shot ("Lick a Shot")

Cypress Hill (cypresshill.com); Sheldon S., Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Where's Scandinavian founding member DJ Muggs? (Cypress Hill "DJ Muggs Is Dead")
WARNING: Violent content, profanity unsuitable for listeners! Live at Razlog, Bulgaria Dec. 2009.

(Color is not important)
Lick a shot!
(Oh!)
Ah
I got shot
Comin' at ya
(Fire!)

Zippidy doodah, zippiddy hey
Cry "oh my," wanna get that punk with my AK
And get on the way
On the mission, puffin' on a fat ass jay
Prude, you can't hang
Flashback on the skills when I used to bang

On the corner
I'll warn ya
Gonna roll on ya
Fool
Hit ya with the Golden Rule
Don't turn your back on the street
When I hit that corner, feel the concrete
If you push that button like nothin'
Watch me turn to a psycho
All of a sudden
Blastin' at these fools with a passion
Look at the Glock
When it's time for some action

Let the gat hum
Lick a shot!
So I let the gat hum
Let the gat hum
I got shot!
So I let the gat hum

Sunday morning, wake up it's stormin'
Raindrops fallin' on my head it's pourin'
Cats and dogs, pigs in a wagon
Lookin' for the Afro one that's saggin'
Scooby Doo
And f*ck you, too!
Ploy me?
Don't let your punk ass try me!
It's gonna take more than you
Better call your backup team
And wait for your crew

I'm the one flippin'
Keepin' the clip on my hip
And just watch your back
If you're slippin'
Ooooh
Where did that .22 come from
When the bullet passed through my lung?
I've lost my breath
I'm winded
I've been hit by a slug
That wasn't intended
I hear thunder
I wonder
If a n*gga like me's goin' under
Take a number!

Let the gat hum
Lick a shot!
So I let the gat hum
Let me get home
I got shot!
So I let the gat hum

Had a bad dream, woke up in a casket
Now I can't even get back at the bastard
Bullsh*t!
This pine box
Ain't strong enough to contain the Afro Mox
Critical bell rings
Snapped out the dream
What the f*ck's up with the funny red beam
Pointin' at me? I got no strap, G!
What now? Gotta duck, they're gonna gat me
Bam, I feel numb
Where did the shotgun blast come from?

Let the gat hum
I got shot!
So I let the gat hum
Let me get home
I got shot!
So I let the gat hum
Senseless violence: "I Ain't Goin Out Like That"
Los Angeles is a ghetto, a gangland of great diversity. It isn't race so much as socioeconomic status that defines. Race comes into it, too. Why were Cypress Hill received so well at Lollapalooza?

Let's kick it, ese.

Comin' out the slums, it's the hoodlums!
I'm pullin' my gat out on all you bums
So bring it on when you wanna come fight this outlaw
Kickin' like Billy Ray Cypress Hill
Chill, ill, I'll bust that grill
Grab my gat and load up the steel
And if you wanna get drastic
I'll pull out the plastic Glock, automatic, synthetic
Material burial plots in order
Headed down to the Mexican border
Smokin' that smelly Northern Cali
Gonna put a slug in Captain O'Malley
Ho, hum -- hear the gat come, boooooommmmmm!
Let me see what you'll do
It's a sin to kill a man
But I'll be damned if I don't take a stand

We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out!

I'm high strung, click, I'm sprung
'Cause I don't live from the humdrum
Where I'm from, the gats be smokin'
I'll be damned if you think I'm jokin'
Know that I'll come with the static
Erratic .45 automatic
Screamin' at ya, the red light's beamin' at ya
No need to have to run after
The punk ass hook, in the oven I'll cook
Dig the grave for the one who got played
Now he's under, don't make Stevie Wonder why:
'Cause he'll testify

We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out!

Korn cover live, Oct. 18, 1998, UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans, LA

I got you thinkin', "What the f*ck is this?"
Lettin' you know I take care of business
Can I get a witness?
To verify when I depict this
Style that makes you ecstatic
Tragic when I get a poof of the Magic Buddha
When I roll with my crew
I betcha one time can't find my hootah
In my vehicle with the belt unbuckled
Pig rollin' up but he ain't that subtle
Pulled to the curb, so we exchange a few words
But he got me stirred up, enough to grab the handcuffs
I'll huff-n-puff and blow ya head off!

We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out like that
We ain't goin' out!

Yeahhh! Takin' your disses and dissin' y'all right back
It's the Cypress Hill crew, like we ain't sh*t
You little taco stand rapper, eat a bowl of d*ck up
Then you got my man over here, you can eat a bowl of d*ck up, too
Anybody got beef around the way, yo
EAT A BOWL OF D*CK UP!! GEEEYEAH!!
