Patanjali, who created the Universe?

Patanjali and the Yoga Sutras for union with the divine

"Yoga" is much more than poses and balance.
The Indian Sage Patanjali, author or compiler of the Yoga Sutras or "Aphorisms on Union" since they are not discourses (sutras) but rather terse sayings followed by brief explanations on the ultimate goal of Yoga ("Union").

All that we in the West call "yoga" are the poses, some breathwork (pranayama), and some chanting or repeating the names of the divine (japa).

But, in fact, the Eightfold Path of Yoga (Ashtanga, Raja, or Integral Yoga) combines a system of practices mirroring the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path, which was radically popular at the time, two millennia ago when the ancient yogi rishi Patanjali compiled his text to set out the ancient Vedic approach to "union with the divine."

They are not the same path, and they do not lead to the same goal, but they often use the same general terms, such as moksha (Pali vimutti) to describe "liberation from samsara." For the Brahmin priests of olde, "liberation" or "emancipation" was rebirth in Brahma's heaven.
  • Brahma means "supreme" and was the personal God of the Brahmin priests, The Supremo, even though some understood that there was a higher truth, an impersonal "Ultimate Reality" behind all the illusion of maya called Brahman, the godhead or godhood; this distinction is crucial but as the words are so similar, some may miss the distinction and fall into wrong views about what the Vedas taught and how the Brahmin caste priests interpreted the ancient "Knowledge Books" of ancient proto-India when it was Maha Bharat and a likely remnant of the more ancient Indus Valley Civilization.
  • The Hindu concept of BRAHMAN being impersonal brings it very close to a Buddhist understanding of the universe, whereas the Buddha rejected the Vedas, the concept of Great Brahma as the creator of the universe, and most Brahminical ideas of the Old Vedic Religion which he revivified by explaining in novel ways lost to the Brahmin rishis and scholar priests who were unable to explain many tough passages and instead speculated and wrangled and had fallen into wrong views.
The Buddha made known the path to all destinations
The Buddha and Early Buddhism did not advocate any spiritual seeker to remain in samsara (the Cycle of Rebirth and Death), which is what "rebirth with Brahma" means.
Moreover, the Buddha taught the way to rebirth in Brahma's retinue, the path to rebirth as a brahma (including Great Brahma, of which there is only one per each "world system" or cakkavala. This is possibly a reference to a "universe" in the multiverse, a solar system, or a galaxy like the Milky Way, of which there are countless all like bubbles).

Brahmins (now Hindus) believes this will then be their final permanent destination, the end of further rebirths in samsara, with no possibility falling away, other brahmas, devas, and Noble Ones in the Pure Abodes -- as well as rebirth on the human plane, 30 other Planes of Existence -- and best of all, ultimate bliss and peace: the END of all further rebirth (nirvana).

How to find 'God' (Edgar Cayce)

In Gnosticism, this is Yaldabaoth, not Jesus' "God," not the great Sophia (Wisdom)

Is Greek Hey Zeus the God or is it his Son?
Edgar Cayce (1877–1945) was an American channeler and clairvoyant who diagnosed diseases and recommended treatments for ailments while in trance [1].

During thousands of transcribed sessions while seemingly asleep, Cayce could answer questions on many subjects such as physical healing, scars of the soul, past lives, karma, reincarnation, dreams, the afterlife, past lives, nutrition, Atlantis, engineering, high finance, the stock market, and future events.

Cayce described himself as a devout Christian and denied being a Spiritualist or communicating with spirits. Cayce is regarded as a founder and a principal source of many characteristic beliefs of today's New Age movement [2]. More

Kundalini Syndrome: Third Eye or Schizo?

The Third Eye, Schizophrenia, and Kundalini Syndrome: I wasn’t ready for that level of manifestation
The third eye is the sixth chakra
(Eye Opening) In this video, I share my personal experience of a spiritual emergency, a spiritual crisis, kundalini syndrome, or psychic trauma (however one wishes to label it) that happened not too long after I had a life-changing experience of my third eye suddenly opening.
  • The seven main chakras along the spine are nexus points associated with different areas of life, the lower three being rooted to the earth in the body, the heart being the centered transitional point, and the upper three "spiritual" spinning energy wheels, which is the literal meaning of chakra. The lowest is survival (lum), the next is sexual (vum), the third is digestion and assimilation (rum); the fourth is the heart (yum), a green-hued area vibrating frequency; the fifth is the throat (hum) about expression and speaking our truth; the sixth is the most famous, the third eye (aum or om) between the brows; the seventh is silent at the crown of the head, full release.
I ended up hospitalized for a week, heavily medicated, and diagnosed with "schizophrenia" and "bipolar disorder" ["mania"]. I am neither of those.

Western medicine doesn't know how else to label what was happening to me. I was simply having a spiritual awakening and did not have any guidance, so I slipped into fear.

The intention of this video is to give some advice so that others do not have to go through what I did.

This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”

Yoga, a transformative practice [consisting of eight limbs, spokes, or constituent factors], represents the harmony of mind and body [and spirit or breath], the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment.

.
Poses are just one limb. Practice all eight.
It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul [holy spirit, prana, pneuma], offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives.

Its power to transform is what we celebrate on this special day.

Organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in collaboration with the UN Secretariat, the event takes place in the North Lawn Area of UNHQ.

What is yoga and why do we celebrate it?

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word "yoga" derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.

The proposal was first introduced by recently reelected Indian [Nationalist] Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said:

I did it! Hands-free headstand balance!
“Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action...a holistic approach [that] is valuable to our health and our well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.”
What is “yoga” besides yoga pants?

Jennifer Love Hewitt yoga pose
The purpose of yoking, union (uniting body, breath, and mind) is to reach stillness (samadhi), so its real purpose is meditation (absorption) -- being able to sit and being able to still the mind and focus it on a single object.

That object could be the breath itself, a mantra (thought instrument to guide the mind), an image of the divine (visualization), a flower, a candle flame, a kasina (disc), or any of the 40 meditation objects the Buddha described.

Yogini Jen Love in mod outfit
So yoga may be described as a system of breathing exercises, body movements and postures, internal organ stimulation, cleansing, spinal flexibility developed by seers and sages. Although the sage Patanjali is credited with "inventing" yoga, he only organized it into a system in the Yoga Sutras, which are really aphorisms or short sayings that are then explained. He learned them and expressed them concisely, rather than developing them all himself.

I can dress however (Daily Mail)
In fact, the reason for yoga is stated in the first aphorism: to still the thought waves or streams of consciousness (vrittis). If samadhi is understood as "stillness" of mind, then vrittis are the streams, the whirlpools, the chaotic roar of consciousness. Imagine the strings of an instrument all jangled, out of tune, and constantly strummed. Now imagine them in tune (coherent), softening, and stilling. That is the eight limbs (ashtanga) of yoga, yoking the mind to its sadhana or "daily practice," coming all together, sam-a-dhi, cohering.
  1. Yamas (self-restraints)
  2. Niyamas (observances)
  3. Āsana (postures, poses, seat)
  4. Prāņāyāma (breath-restraint, breathwork)
  5. Pratyāhāra (sense withdrawal)
  6. Dhāraṇā (meditation)
  7. Dhyāna (meditative absorption)
  8. Samādhi (stillness, coherence, super-consciousness)
English translation of Patanjali
One may not reach complete stillness all at once. It may be done in steps or employing expedient means along the way, such as leaning on "God/Goddess" (Brahman, Maha Brahma, neither male nor female but expressing the qualities of both masculinity and femininity, yin and yang), a deva or image of the divine. or one's best possible self, aspiring to our own divine potential, our innate capacity to become divine.

Tantra yoga (not the Buddha)
So from a Buddhist perspective -- or any non-Hindu, non-Vedic dharma (doctrine), such as Jainism or Baba's Ananda Marga (PR Sarkar's "Path to Bliss") -- perspective, one need not imagine or visualize a theistic being. It is quite enough to go bigger and take as one's ideal Brahman (the truth behind all illusion) or the potential for Buddhahood, the bodhisattva ideal, when this "being-bent-on-enlightenment" refers to supreme awakening, nonteaching awakening, or personal awakening (the enlightenment of a supremely awakened teacher, a fully awakened paccekka buddha, or an arahant (enlightened disciple).

Om (aum): cosmic sound
Patanjali, gurus, and sadhus of the past really envisioned the immensity of the godhead (godhood), the omniscient and omnipotent (Brahman), rather than relying on human conceptions of an anthropomorphic figure like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, or Krishna (or Ma Durga, Saraswati, Kali, or Radha). Imagine a "higher power," or the best form of myself I could ever become.

Spirituality without a grouchy God?
Wait, is this "yoga"? Look, Larry David has no balance. No, this is not Ashtanga Yoga.
.
O, Great Yogi, teach me to know myself.
Protestantism was smart to reject the Holy Roman Imperial Church and their Godman. But what did they set up in His place, the angry God of the Bible, the compassionate Virgin Mary, the "begotten" son? Judging from modern American fundamentalists and evangelicals, it's all Yeshua (Buddhist Saint Issa) all the time.

The reason it was good to reject Rome's Holy See and the oldest corporation in the world (Vatican, Inc. under CEO Francis) was because the Church wanted to be the go between our experience of the divine. Is an intermediary priest necessary to connect with our natural potential for divinity?

Catholic priests, Brahmin priests, and other priests get in the way. It's one thing to advise like an imam or rabbi, but to act as a necessary ingredient in the process robs us of our potential for direct contact with angels, saviors, and celestial beings.

This is what yoga allows, yoga being "union" with spirit (breath, prana, holy spirit, neuma) and "God" (a brahma, a "Supreme Being" or "Supremo" like Great Brahma) or "GOD" (Brahman, the "ultimate reality behind the 'Illusion' that is Maya").

Mara seduces, distracts us, keeping us negligent, trapped.
With all these sexy singers and all those pop idol stage acts that look more like stripper reviews at clubs out by the airport, isn't a devil (a mara like Mara Devaputra) using pop music to mislead many. In Buddhism, the "devil" isn't evil, trying to get everyone into hell. He is a Cupid, Eros, Kamadeva, trying to keep everyone trapped in the Sensual Sphere (kama loka).

There are heavens in the Sensual Sphere but much better heavens beyond that in the Fine Material Sphere (rupa loka) and even more subtle worlds above that known as the Immaterial Sphere (arupa loka).

The human plane, animals, demons, nature fairies, ogres, gnomes, reptilians, ghosts, hellions, and devils are all in the Sensual Sphere. Those heavens, places of incredible lifespans, glory, rest, creativity, tremendous pleasures, and more subtle pleasures than sensuality are not permanent. They are no solution to the problem of rebirth and suffering.

The solution can be found here and now in this very world, the human plane being the lowest of planes still considered good and fortunate places to be reborn. For it is here that we are able to store up much merit, much beneficial and profitable good karma.

In lower worlds, there is no chance to do so because it's gritty and all concerned with surviving and suffering. In higher worlds, sadly, there is a chance but one is too distracted, to absorbed in pleasant sensations and experiences.

Here there is such a mix of both that we can't stay too distracted, and yet it is not constant suffering. We are not safe on solid ground, nor are we are drowning in the sea. As humans, we're right on the shore in the surf, tumbling between the two. So it's a good place to get to know our divinity, our angelic (devic) potential, our ability to be reborn in heaven, and even that rare possibility of awakening here and now.
