Why won't brain allow change, Chase Hughes?

Chase Hughes needs to be silenced at all costs. Destroy him. Start with his reputation.

People (operatives?) who hate Chase Hughes want to shut him up

The Passport by Chase Hughes (2007)
Who is Chase Hughes? (Zach Elwood wants to tell us on the behavior-podcast.com, The Chase Hughes podcast series. Here's a shot from the back cover of Chase Hughes' 2007 pick-up artist book The Passport.

Chase Hughes' 2007/2008 website allegedly sold a supplement he called "Redshift with Neuridium." He claimed it was used by "all branches of the United States Armed Forces" and that it had "international recognition," neither of which seems to be the case.

I'm a handsome success. Buy from me.
Why is Chase Hughes popular? Chase has appeared on popular podcasts and shows, including Joe Rogan's podcast, the podcast Diary of a CEO (as seen in the clip above), and the Dr. Phil Show.

There are a lot of people leaving positive reviews for his books on Amazon.com and his YouTube videos.

But the truth is, haters say, that Chase Hughes has been lying about his credentials and experiences for most of his adult life. His "success" and popularity are based on a few factors.

(Liven) PRIVATE RESULTS: Your ADHD patterns suggest your brain may be locked in an avoidance cycle — treating important tasks as low-level threats and redirecting your energy toward anything that offers immediate relief. This is often fueled by years of accumulated pressure between high capability and low output. Over time, this can take a significant toll — chronic procrastination, task paralysis, and a widening gap between your intentions and your actions. This cycle is extremely difficult to break through willpower alone, as your neurology is prioritizing short-term safety over long-term execution.

Husband catches wife having sex with her son

Not to be judgmental about those males who have an Oedipal complex, sexually fantasizing about their own biological mothers (like females who harbor an Electra complex), but c'mon. This seems biologically repugnant and gross, not to say it is. Maybe we are just trained by our society to regard it so, as seems to be the case in all societies. There seems something built into the human experience to give us a natural aversion to incest, which may be nothing more than the very powerful "familiarity breeds contempt." If we grow up with someone, see too much of them, it seems natural we are not interested sexually in them. This seems to hold most of the time. There are aberrations, of course. But who is for this? Who is for incest? It is hard to believe that it appears to be such a strong feature of the Judeo-Christian mentality. "Judeo-Christian" is a made-up term, invented for Zionist Jewish Israeli hasbara or propaganda to conflate American culture with Jewish culture on account of shared roots through the embrace of Christianity by many WASPs and Europeans. Jews, particularly biblical ones, may be all right with incest, judging from Bible stories, and a strong patriarchal attitude, but do Christian patriarchs feel the same? Are no children in such families safe? Why would it be more prevalent, or seem to be more prevalent, in the South? (We're looking at you, West Virginia). Is it lack of opportunity? Is everyone related? Is it in the zeitgeist so people just go with it? What is going on?

To what depths do we fall? Bestiality

Primordial love/sex drive (Helen Fisher)

There are many kinds of attachment (upadana). The pursuit and clinging to sensual pleasures is very strong (although the strongest is probably attachment to views). It can be as strong as thirst (tanha). It serves a function, not for us who suffer it so much as the species or genes that perpetuate themselves into the future. (See The Selfish Gene on the scientific view of the impersonal nature of biology).

Love (the affection for clinging) is a drive, sex (the affection for pleasure) is a drive, and they are very powerful. What hope is there to overcome or undo them should they start to spread all out of control like fire and ruin our lives, bringing waves of torment and suffering? Things are all well and good when they are working out, but when they are not?

When things sour, then what? These are not conscious processes we have very much insight on. We live on autopilot, and they "happen" to us. Maybe that's okay for most people. But for those who would be free and make an end of all suffering in this very life?

Here in my car: meditation and driving (video)

"Family Guy" (video); Kalyani and Seven, Wisdom Quarterly
Meditating while driving? It depends on what one thinks "meditation" means (mysteriousuniverse.org).

Can someone meditate while driving a car and not crash? If meditating is "blissing out," or distraction, then no. But if meditating is an ordinary state of mind -- a fourth state, serene, freed of distracting thoughts -- then the answer is an emphatic yes.

By sitting in stillness -- just sitting, free of thinking, worrying, stressing, or looking for something to stimulate and amuse our overtaxed sensory apparatus -- a wonderful bliss can blossom. As one approaches absorption due to the presence of the "factors of absorption" (jhānaṅga), the absence of the Five Hindrances, even a head on collision could be viewed in perspective. It's nothing to get hung up on. It's something to prevent but nothing to get hung up on.

Meditation is the opposite of distraction, whether driving, talking, or breathing, one remains aware. Even if the mind drifts off, one is aware of that as it happens.

After the ecstasy, the laundry. Before enlightenment, chopping wood, collecting water. After enlightenment, same thing. Meditation (bhavana) means cultivating the heart and mind. This can mean the development of compassion, which can be done at any time, or training in insight.

"Zen" moment? This is the opposite of meditating-while-driving

Insight (vipassana) is "seeing things as they really are," which overcomes discursive thinking in favor of direct knowing or what is loosely translated as "intuition" rather than cogitating. Direct knowing is not mediated by reasoning and doubting, pondering and being perplexed. It means investigating in a systematic way AFTER having developed serene states of absorption (jhanas, zens, dhyanas) that one can enter and emerge at will.

Be mindful -- simple bare awareness of the mechanics of driving. Be serene -- enjoying the wonder of this very moment without getting lost in thoughts about it. Live it. All space is here, all time is now, so be here now. Drive.

Approaching a car in this way will lead to much greater ease and appreciation of time spent on the cushion even if that cushion is behind the wheel. But what about the distractions? How to remove distracting thoughts?

Gender "Storm" - raising a genderless child

Jacqueline Burt (TheStir, May 24, 2011)

Parents Keep Baby's Gender Secret: Would You?
To borrow a quote from Lady Gaga, 4-month-old baby "Storm" from Canada was born this way... we just don't know what way that is, exactly.

Storm's parents, Kathy Witterick and David Stocker, made the decision to keep Storm's gender a secret from everyone except the baby's two siblings (both brothers), a close friend, and the midwives who were present for the birth. Sorry, grandma!

That's right, the already "unconventional" parents (Stocker teaches at an alternative school; the couple's sons are unschooled) are not sharing baby Storm's sex with anyone for the time being, "in a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation."

Witterick and Stocker think it's "obnoxious" how many choices parents make for their children, and want to shield Storm from society's messages about gender roles for as long as possible -- ideally until Storm is old enough to decide for him/herself what he/she wants to be.

Okay. I'm not judging what Storm's parents are trying to do -- I get it, I really do, I even think it's kind of a cool idea.

When my 5-year-old son gets into my eyeshadow and his big sister laughs and says, "Boys don't wear makeup," my standard reply is "That's not true, David Bowie wore makeup." I'm not set on raising a manly man and a girly girl.

I agree with the argument that our culture pigeonholes kids before they even know who they are, not just gender politics-wise but in terms of all-around personality. Labels are bad, fight the power! More

Why perfume? Men prefer scent of a woman

Jac Chebatoris (Tonic.com, Jan. 16, 2010)
Looking for love? Skip the spritz and let your body odor do the talking. Tuberose, sandalwood, peony, and orchid are all lovely notes for a fragrance. After all perfume is a multi-billion dollar industry. But if you're hoping to entice members of the opposite sex, you may just want to skip the spritz in favor of going au naturale. According to a new study in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for the Psychological Science, levels of testosterone in men are affected by "odor signals emitted by females, particularly when they are ovulating." Ovulation means fertility and fertility (since time immemorial) means attraction (in the animal and human kingdoms). More>>

Being a "people person" is all in your head

(HealthDayNews.com) -- Regions of the brain that process pleasurable experiences such as sweet tastes and sexual stimuli are the same ones that determine whether an individual is a "people person," say European researchers.

They used MRI to scan the brains of 41 males who'd completed a questionnaire designed to measure their emotional warmth and sociability. Those who were most social had greater concentrations of grey matter (brain-cell containing tissue) in the orbito-frontal cortex (the outer strip of the brain just above the eyes) and in the ventral striatum (located in the center of the brain).

Previous research has shown that both areas play an important role in processing simple rewards such as sweet tastes or sexual stimuli.

"It's interesting that the degree to which we find social interaction rewarding relates to the structure of our brains in regions that are important for simple biological drives such as foods, sweet liquids and sex. Perhaps this gives us a clue to how complex features like sentimentality and affection evolved from structures that in lower animals originally were only important for basic biological survival processes," research leader Dr. Graham Murray, of the University of Cambridge in England, said in a university news release.

"Sociability and emotional warmth are very complex features of our personality. This research helps us understand at a biological level why people differ in the degrees to which we express those traits," he said. However, Murray noted that this research is "only correlational and cross-sectional" and "cannot prove that brain structure determines personality. It could even be that your personality, through experience, helps in part to determine your brain structure."

The study appears in the European Journal of Neuroscience. This area of research could help improve understanding of mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia, in which social interaction is a major problem.

"Patients with certain psychiatric conditions often experience difficulties in feeling emotional closeness, and this can have a big impact on their life. It could be that the cause of these difficulties is at least partly due to brain structural features of those disorders," Murray said.
