Soma and 5-MeO-DMT with Indian yogis
Did soma (elixir containing a secret psychedelic mushroom or plant) give rise to "Hinduism"?
(dakota 2 earth) I gave [Indian wandering ascetic shaman] Aghori Yogis sapo (bufo), 5-MeO-DMT. They laughed at it, not rejecting the mind-expanding experience but seemingly accustomed to it by their own sadhana or daily spiritual practices.

Hinduism's secret mushroom theory
DISCLAIMER: This educational documentary investigates a theory about the entheogenic origins of Hinduism [what the British dubbed Indus-ism to describe all the varied practices and belief around the Indus River Valley, melding them all under one rubric when they never saw themselves as "religions" or anything apart from regular life].

Science 'films' HAPPINESS in brain

| Better living through (natural) chemistry |
Now, one might be wondering, “What on earth is anandamide, and why should I care?” Well, pull up a chair and grab a square of dark chocolate, because we’re about to embark on a flavor-filled journey into the world of neuroscience and cocoa chemistry. Anandamide, derived from the Sanskrit word ananda, meaning “bliss or joy,” is a naturally occurring compound in our brains. It’s part of the endocannabinoid system, a complex network that helps regulate various bodily functions, including mood, appetite, and pain sensation. In essence, anandamide is the brain’s very own mood-enhancing, stress-busting superhero. But how does this marvelous molecule work its magic? When anandamide binds to specific receptors in our brains, it triggers a cascade of feel-good effects. More

| Buddha's Brain: Neuroscience of Happiness |
Organized religion errs on the side of spiritualism, believing us to be a "soul," "spirit," or "magical subtlety." These three things are real, but they are not the self any more than consciousness is.
There is nama rupa, "name" (the instructions) and "form" (the carrying out of those instructions in the material sphere). But self (atta) is not that. How else could it be? If it not one, it has to be the other, unless it is both? It is both both and neither.
What we regard as "self" (soul, ego) is mind-and-body, but though mental and physical processes exist and are active, they do not amount to a concrete "self."
The "self" that exists is dependent, temporary, ephemeral subject to Three Characteristics of All Conditioned Things: they are impermanent, incapable of satiating/fulfilling, and are impersonal.
This last characteristic is the one that is impossible to believe, but it is the key to awakening/enlightenment in the Buddha's teaching.
We can see that all things are impermanent, in flux, constantly changing, undependable. We can see that we have never been fulfilled for long; we experience great pleasure but remain hungry, in many cases becoming more hungry for newer and better pleasures.
IF THERE IS NO SELF, WHAT IS THERE THEN? The Buddha answered this question in terms of Dependent Origination (paticca-samuppāda). And it is on account of not seeing this, not grasping, not penetrating this that we have wandered so long in this painful samsara.
Will we fall under the spell of scient-ism, run to religion for shelter, or begin to see what the Buddha was getting at when he encouraged us to strive for calm and liberating-insight?
"Science can prove what it says." Can it? It redefines "happiness" as an endorphin then shows a peptide "walking," and viola, nonmaterialistic Buddhism is wrong? That's how it might seem, but it is not the case. We must look more deeply. Science fails us. And coming and seeing and investigating what the Buddha taught liberates us. Try it.
Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom
![]() |
| Preface by Jack Kornfield |
Change your brain, change your life with this essential classic from New York Times bestselling author Dr. Rick Hanson—now celebrating 15 years in print with more than 500,000 copies sold.
Great teachers like the historical Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, and Gandhi were all born with brains built essentially like everyone else’s—and then they changed their brains in ways that changed the world.
Neuroscience now reveals how the flow of thoughts actually sculpts the brain. More and more, we are learning that it’s possible to strengthen positive brain states.
By combining breakthroughs in science with insights from thousands of years of mindfulness practice, we too can shape our own “Buddha’s Brain” for greater happiness, love, and wisdom.
Buddha’s Brain draws on evidence-based neuroscience to show readers how to stimulate their brains for
- more fulfilling relationships,
- a deeper spiritual life, and
- a greater sense of inner confidence and self-worth.
Most importantly, anyone who implements these practices will foster positive psychological growth that will literally change the way life is lived day-to-day.
This book provides an essential intersection of psychology, neurology, and contemplative practice. It’s filled with practical tools and skills useful every day to tap into the unused potential of the brain and rewire it over time for greater well-being. More

Primordial love/sex drive (Helen Fisher)
There are many kinds of attachment (upadana). The pursuit and clinging to sensual pleasures is very strong (although the strongest is probably attachment to views). It can be as strong as thirst (tanha). It serves a function, not for us who suffer it so much as the species or genes that perpetuate themselves into the future. (See The Selfish Gene on the scientific view of the impersonal nature of biology).
Love (the affection for clinging) is a drive, sex (the affection for pleasure) is a drive, and they are very powerful. What hope is there to overcome or undo them should they start to spread all out of control like fire and ruin our lives, bringing waves of torment and suffering? Things are all well and good when they are working out, but when they are not?
When things sour, then what? These are not conscious processes we have very much insight on. We live on autopilot, and they "happen" to us. Maybe that's okay for most people. But for those who would be free and make an end of all suffering in this very life?

How to stop: REAL cause of addictions
The REAL reason behind addictions and how to get over them
![]() |
| I don't know how it began. I was molested. |
![]() |
| Dr. Gabor Mate used this idea in his research |
Tibetan Buddhists believe that at death one sheds only the physical or gross form; the subtle and causal forms of the body remain [in a changing state of flux, just as they changed and were in flux during life].
This means that while one is now [temporarily] free of the gross or physical body, one is still in the grip of the subtle body, or mind, that was “made” during that and previous lifetimes.
The causal body will retain the seed of the addiction and carry it into the next life if it is not purified.
Thus, those who die in the grip of addiction or craving or attachment often remain in the physical plane as disembodied hungry ghosts.

| The Wisdom of Trauma |
- [Dr. Gabor Mate, Canadian addiction medical specialist and star of Zeitgeist, contends that there are NO addictive substances or activities. Many people are indeed addicted and unable to stop; there is no doubt about that. Dr. Mate treats them daily and set up Canada's first compassionate care center to help them. But it turns out the real problem is an interaction of factors. IF substances and activities were "addictive," then everyone who partook would become addicted. This does not happen. Q: What then is the underlying cause?

When the Body Says No - A: Susceptibility brought on by childhood trauma. If a person who was abused takes a nonaddictive substance like alcohol, meth, fentanyl, MSG, sugar, heroin, crack, cocaine, or marijuana (which flood the brain with feelgood dopamine, endorphins, and neurotransmitters) then addiction quickly sets in. But it cannot be substance. It is that substance in that person. So as a society we abuse our children then condemn them for the easy-to-access coping mechanism they resort to to self-soothe. It's a double-bind, a Catch 22, a fully Belgium (HHGTTG) situation. Ghosts get trapped this way, and then they are trapped (in bondage), and then for a long time lost "in the realm of hungry ghosts" (Buddhism's peta loka). Knowing this, seeing this, one adheres to the Five Precepts, for one who preserves the Five Precepts is preserved by the Five Precepts. Otherwise, after the ghost realm, which is the beginning of the downfall (niraya), the great waste, one continues down to the hells, where there is no apparent way out. Good karma now will help a great deal then. So make merit (punya).]

| I want what I want when I want it. I'm hungry. |
Those with the ability to perceive disembodied spirits can perceive hungry ghosts.
These people claim that in those places such as the “red light” districts of many cities where people gather to drink, have sex (engage in prostitution), or use intoxicants -- three of the most common pursuits of human addiction -- hungry ghosts can be seen to congregate, often in great numbers.
Addiction is complex.
It transcends mere substance or behavioral abuse.
Addiction is defined as a chronic and relapsing disorder.
It is characterized by compulsive seeking, continued use, and a lack of control.
This continues in the face of and despite severe adverse consequences.

| The brain is dependent on neurochemicals. |
This adaptation diminishes the brain's sensitivity to natural rewards (such as dopamine) and compels/drives one in the compulsive pursuit of the addictive stimulus.
In the digital age, behavioral addictions related to technology and social media have also begun to take hold. #addictions #hungryghosts #zen

The research offers hope for millions of patients, paving the way toward more tailored treatments based on specific dysfunctionality in certain areas of the brain.
Dysfunctionality in key brain areas can result in a range of debilitating conditions, including
- Parkinson's disease [which is just due to the loss of myelin sheath of the nervous system, which is easily revered by Dr. Joel Wallach at criticalhealthnews.com, even in serious and advanced cases like famous Michael J. Fox if only he knew],
- obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD),
- dystonia (a movement disorder where the muscles contract involuntarily), and
- Tourette's syndrome [like Billie Pirate Eilish suffers from].

California closer to legalizing psychedelics

Psychedelics one step closer to being decriminalized in California
![]() |
| Newsom: I'll sign the bill for SF City to get well. |
The California State Assembly voted to legalize substances such as DMT (the "Spirit Molecule" in ayahuasca and Syrian rue, made famous in the biblical "Burning Bush" story), acid (LSD), sacred cactus (peyote, San Pedro), and "magic mushrooms" (psilocybin).
New frontier or ancient human practice?
Were psychedelics [entheogens] used in the ancient world? Here’s the four-minute answer researcher Graham Hancock gave to that question when he was interviewed at the Glastonbury Festival (which explains the background music) in June of 2016.
The topics covered in this video are explored at length in his 2005 book Supernatural: Meetings with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind.
Women need psychedelics more than men?
Jennifer Chesak (grahamhancock.com)
A not-so-fun fact: In the Global Drug Survey 2020 [1], women cite depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as their main reasons for using psychedelics.
Additional reasons include other mental health disorders, grief, distress over medical conditions, and chronic pain.
The truth is that more women report self-treating with some psychedelics than men, whereas men (not all) tend to use psychedelics for recreational purposes.
None of this surprises me. And it’s why I wrote the Psilocybin Handbook for Women: How Magic Mushrooms, Psychedelic Therapy, and Microdosing Can Benefit Your Mental, Physical, and Spiritual Health.
I wanted to provide accurate info about psilocybin (more commonly known as magic mushrooms) and its intersection with women’s health — because our bodies are not the same, nor are our lived experiences. The following content includes excerpted material from the book. More
