How magic mushrooms rewire brain

(North Spore) How scientists believe psilocybin (4-PO-DMT, dimethyltryptamine, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) rewires the human brain.

Could the same heightened experiences be achieved with stability and not freaking out?

This isn't about tripping b*lls but access to mind.
The body has a pineal gland, possibly the physical base of the mythical third or "divine eye," the dibba cakkhu in Buddhist psychological terms. The endogenous product it makes is DMT, the same active ingredient in entheogens, substances capable of bringing out (manifesting) the divine within. We as ordinary human beings have the capacity for divinity -- for being reborn as devas or even experiencing what brahmas experience all the time, namely, the Four Divine Abidings the Buddha recommended, and exhibiting the magical powers they customarily wield. One of these powers is extrasensory perception or the use of the divine senses.

Mind expansion for awareness

Try psychedelics. Access transcendence. | James Fadiman
(Big Think) Expert James Fadiman explains how psychedelics (entheogens) have the power to expand consciousness, enhance creativity, and deepen our connections to the world around us.
James Fadiman, a distinguished figure with over six decades in psychedelic research, examines the profound impact psychedelics have on consciousness, creativity, and connectivity. Fadiman shares insights into how these substances shift perception, offering perspectives that challenge and expand our understanding of reality.

Reduce activity in the DMN to pause ego-delusion

He also delves into the scientific underpinnings of psychedelics, their therapeutic potential, and the societal benefits of fostering deeper empathy and open-mindedness.

Highlighting the importance of integration post-experience, Fadiman sheds light on the transformative power of psychedelics to not only alter individual consciousness but also to enhance community bonds and personal relationships.

Through a focus on responsible use and the expansion of human awareness, Fadiman's expertise offers a compelling view into the capacity of psychedelics to redefine our interaction with the world and ourselves.

A Christian awakens: Love Covered Life

They never even have bothered to learn my real name, yet they claim they love me.

"Hear me out: Christianity [as practiced by most people in the USA and Europe, particularly in Rome] is just another Satanic cult." This is not a joke. Here's why. By the end of the video, what the correct path of Christianity, the steps Jesus (Yeshua, Issa, Kristos, the Annointed One, Christ) actually followed and advocated are covered. Hearing is believing, even though facing up to having been deceived for so long and to be so wrong will likely be impossible for most "Christians." For as it is said, a comforting lie is far more attractive than any bitter truth.
Americans are turning to God?
  • Morgue Official is an ex-Christian intent on exposing the Church and revealing the true teachings of Jesus Christ as understood for thousands of years in a body of literature called the "Gnostic texts." They are not one set of books but rather are buried secrets the official Church tried to stamp out, ban, censor, alter, and eradicate along with killing anyone possessing such knowledge.

World Brain Day: the 'Buddha's Brain'

Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love & Wisdom
is an Audible audiobook (unabridged) by Dr. Rick Hanson, PhD. He is the author and narrator and has 4.7 out of 5 stars with 1,984 ratings.

Change your brain, change your life with this essential classic from New York Times bestselling author Dr. Hanson—now celebrating 15 years in print with more than 500,000 copies sold.

Great teachers like the Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, and Gandhi were all born with brains built essentially like anyone else’s—and then they changed their brains in ways that changed the world.

Neuroscience now reveals how the flow of thoughts actually sculpts the brain. More and more, we are learning that it’s possible to strengthen positive brain states. By combining breakthroughs in science with insights from thousands of years of mindfulness (sati) practice, we too can shape our own “Buddha’s Brain” for greater happiness, love, and wisdom.

Buddha’s Brain draws on evidence-based neuroscience to show how to stimulate our brain for more fulfilling relationships, a deeper spiritual life, and a greater sense of inner confidence and self-worth.

Using guided meditations and mindfulness exercises, readers learn how to activate the brain states of calm, joy, and compassion instead of worry, sorrow, and anger. Most importantly, they will foster positive psychological growth that will literally change the way we live our day-to-day life.

This book provides an essential intersection of psychology, neurology, and contemplative practice, and is filled with practical tools and skills that anyone can use every day to tap into the unused potential of the brain and rewire it over time for greater well-being.

PLEASE NOTE: Purchase of this title is accompanied by a PDF in the Audible Library along with the audio. Science of focus: Mindfulness rewires brain

Unlocking the Power of the Present Moment
Meditation is natural progress
Imagine pausing in the middle of chaos and suddenly feeling a wave of calm wash over mind and body. That’s the surprising reality many people experience when they embrace mindfulness (Buddhist sati).

In a world that never seems to slow down, mindfulness offers a rare and precious gift: the ability to be completely present.

It’s not a fleeting fad or a mystical ritual. Instead, it is a simple yet profound [formerly Buddhist] practice that science now shows can literally reshape our brains and boost our chances for success.

The idea that focusing on our breath or paying attention to our surroundings in the moment could change our brain may sound unbelievable, but the evidence is mounting: Mindfulness is not just about feeling better; it’s about training our mind for resilience and greatness. More

ETs can grow UFOs with consciousness

Andromedins ETs grow "bio-ships" with their consciousness
How can the heart or head grow a UFO?
(Gaia) March 26, 2025: Why are Andromedins building "bio-ships" for other civilizations, and what impact does it have on the Galactic Federation?

Retired U.S. Navy Defense Officer Victoria Whitney and the official Omicron Commonwealth chancellor reveals her experiences with Andromedin shipbuilders.

We've been telling you Earthlings for eons.
Whitney describes the ETs' advanced wireframe technology for creating living bio-ships, where liquid AI infuses consciousness, integrates complex systems, and embeds emotions and personality.

Whitney also highlights their ships' cutting-edge features, including jump gates for interstellar travel and self-healing abilities.

The Andromedins' bio-ships for the Galactic Federation are paramount in nurturing a collaborative spirit among interstellar races and driving galactic progress.

Why consciousness?

"We think it, and we get it." The real cause is karma (deeds that came to fruition as the result of rebirth in privileged planes of existence superior to the human plane). The proximate cause in some deva worlds, such as the Celestial World of Creation in Buddhist cosmology, and the neighboring plane of existence where beings Wield Power Over Others' Creations, is karma. The result and fruit (vipaka and phala) of certain deeds is rebirth in worlds where things are mind-made. That is, one wishes or intends, and so it becomes. This is telepathy, PSI, and paranormal in human estimation but normal for devas ("shining ones" in space), as the Buddha explained:

Higher Celestial Worlds (Upper Sensual Sphere)
We have been with you for ages.
Devas live in four planes that float (fly, move, levitate) in the air, leaving them free from contact with the strife of lower worlds. In the Western sense of the word "heaven," the term best applies to the four worlds listed below:
  1. Parinirmita-vaśavartin परिनिर्मितवशवर्ती or Paranimmita-vasavatti परनिम्मितवसवत्ति (Tibetan གཞན་འཕྲུལ་དབང་བྱེད་, Wylie gzhan 'phrul dbang byed, Vietnamese Trời Tha Hoá Tự Tại, Chinese 他化自在天, Japanese Takejizai-ten, Burmese ပရနိမ္မိတဝသဝတ္တီ, Thai ปรนิมมิตวสวัตฺติ or ปริเนรมิตวศวรติน) The world of devas "with power over (others') creations" – These devas do not create pleasing forms that they desire for themselves, but their desires are fulfilled by the acts of other devas who wish for their favor. The ruler of this world is called Vaśavartin (Pāli Vasavatti), who has a longer life, greater beauty, more power and happiness, and more delightful sense-objects than the other devas of this celestial world....
  2. Nirmāṇarati निर्माणरति or Nimmānaratī निम्माणरती (Tibetan འཕྲུལ་དགའ་, Wylie phrul dga, Vietnamese Trời Hoá Lạc, Chinese 化乐天/化樂天, Japanese 化楽天 Keraku-ten, Burmese နိမ္မာနရတိ, Thai นิมมานรติ or นิรมาณรติ) The world of devas "delighting in their creations" – The devas of this world are capable of making any appearance [form] to please themselves. The lord of this world is called Sunirmita (Pāli Sunimmita), whose wife is the rebirth of Visākhā, formerly the chief of the upāsikās (female lay devotees) of the Buddha. The beings of this world are 3,750 feet (1,140 meters) tall and live for 2,304,000,000 years (as reckoned by the defunct Sarvāstivāda Buddhist tradition). The height of this world is 640 yojanas (one yojana = 7 miles) above the Earth.
  3. Tuṣita तुषित or Tushita तुसित (Tibetan དགའ་ལྡན་, Wylie dga' ldan, Vietnamese Trời Đâu Suất, Chinese 兜率天, Japanese Tosotsu-ten, Burmese တုသိတာ, Thai ดุสิต, ตุสิตา or ตุษิตา) – The world of "joyful" devas – This world is best known for being the world in which a bodhisattva lives before being reborn on the human plane. Until a few thousand years ago, the Bodhisattva of this world was Śvetaketu (Pāli Seta-ketu), who was then reborn as Prince Siddhārtha Gautama, who at 35 became the historical Buddha Śākyamuni; since then the current Bodhisattva has been Nātha (Nātha-deva), who will be reborn as Ajita and will become the Buddha Maitreya (Pāli Metteyya). While this bodhisattva is the foremost of the dwellers in Tuṣita, the ruler of this world is another deva named Santuṣita (Pāli Santusita). The beings of this world are 3,000 feet (910 m) tall and live for 576,000,000 years (Sarvāstivāda tradition). The height of this world is 320 yojanas above the Earth.
  4. Yāma याम (Tibetan འཐབ་བྲལ་, Wylie 'thab bral, Vietnamese Trời Dạ Ma, Chinese 夜摩天, Japanese Yama-ten, Burmese ယာမာ. Thai ยามา) Sometimes called the "celestial world without fighting" because it is the lowest of the Sensual Realm heavens to be physically separated from the tumults of the earthly world. These devas live in the air (sky), free of all difficulties. Its ruler is the deva Suyāma; according to some, his wife is the rebirth of Sirimā, a courtesan of Rājagṛiha, who at the time of the Buddha was generous to the monastics, which earned her tremendous merit (punya). The beings of this world are 2,250 feet (690 m) tall and live for 144,000,000 years (Sarvāstivāda tradition). The height of this world is 160 yojanas above the Earth. More

Soldier karma: life with NO brain

Psychology of brain damage: shattered
How can we live in a world that makes no sense at all? How could we exist when every second of our lives is an unsolvable puzzle, and the tiny bits we do manage to recognize can’t come out?

That was the life of Russian soldier Lev Zasetsky (1920–1993), a young man who suffered a brain injury fighting in another useless war.

That was the life of Lev Zasetsky, who suffered a severe brain injury when thrown into World War II.

The 3,000-page diary he wrote following his injury became one of the most valuable and insightful texts on the study of the human brain in the history of biological science (popsci.com).

Zasetsky suffered from aphasia, a disorder or dysphasia that impairs a person’s ability to communicate or understand communication.
Patient Lev Zasetsky and Dr. Alex Luria
Zasetsky’s form of aphasia resulted in him being able to write without being able to read his own writing or understand all of what he had written.

Russian Dr. Alexander Luria, one of the Soviet Union’s most accomplished neuropsychologists, was assigned to care for Zasetsky and found that the young soldier “simply could not write and…had suddenly become illiterate.”

Dr. Luria pinpointed Zasetsky’s injury to “the second major block of the brain located in the posterior sections of the large hemispheres.”

This portion of the brain’s job is “for receiving, processing, and retaining information a person derives from the external world.”

The precise location of his shrapnel injury meant that “a very important function [had] been seriously impaired: he [could] not immediately combine his impressions into a coherent whole; his world [became] fragmented.”

That’s how the world existed for Lev Zasetsky: fragmented. But he didn’t give up. His fascinating story and undaunted attitude can inspire and reframe our modern understanding of psychology, history, language, communication, showing what the human spirit can accomplish.

SUTRA: Want to be a soldier? You might want to reconsider
The headman (gamini) was wise to ask the Buddha to clarify and dispel doubts (Yodhājīva Sutta)

The village headman Yodhajiva went to the Buddha, bowed, sat respectfully to one side, and said: "Venerable sir, I have heard it passed down through the ancient teaching lineage of warriors that:
  • 'When a warrior strives and exerts in battle, if others strike one down and slay one while striving and exerting in battle then, with the breakup of the body after death, one is reborn in the company of angels (devas) slain in battle.'
"What does the Blessed One say about that?"

"Enough, headman, set that question aside and do not ask it." But a second time and third time the headman Yodhajiva asked it.

"Headman, I seem to be unable to get past by saying, 'Enough, headman, set that question aside and do not ask it,' so to reply simply: When a warrior strives and exerts in battle, one's mind is already seized, debased, and misdirected by the thought, 'May those beings be struck down, slaughtered, destroyed, annihilated, and no longer exist.'

"If others then strike one down or slay one while one is striving and exerting in battle, then with the breakup of the body after death, one is reborn in a hell called the Realm of those Slain in Battle.

Oh no, what will come of ignorance and killing?
"Moreover, if one holds a view such as, 'When a warrior strives and exerts in battle, if others then strike one down or slay one while one is striving and exerting in battle, then with the breakup of the body after death, one is reborn in the company of angels slain in battle,' that is his wrong view.

"There are, I say, two destinations for a person with wrong view, either hell or the animal womb" [rebirth in one of the many hells or the super-diversified animal plane].

When this was said, the headman Yodhajiva began to sob and burst into tears.

"Headman, that is what I was unable to get by you by asking you to set that question aside and not ask it."

"But, venerable sir, I am not crying because of what the Blessed One said but rather because I have been deceived, cheated, and fooled for a long time by that ancient teaching lineage of warriors who said that" (SN 42.3).

Primordial love/sex drive (Helen Fisher)

There are many kinds of attachment (upadana). The pursuit and clinging to sensual pleasures is very strong (although the strongest is probably attachment to views). It can be as strong as thirst (tanha). It serves a function, not for us who suffer it so much as the species or genes that perpetuate themselves into the future. (See The Selfish Gene on the scientific view of the impersonal nature of biology).

Love (the affection for clinging) is a drive, sex (the affection for pleasure) is a drive, and they are very powerful. What hope is there to overcome or undo them should they start to spread all out of control like fire and ruin our lives, bringing waves of torment and suffering? Things are all well and good when they are working out, but when they are not?

When things sour, then what? These are not conscious processes we have very much insight on. We live on autopilot, and they "happen" to us. Maybe that's okay for most people. But for those who would be free and make an end of all suffering in this very life?

Psychoneuroimmunology: placebo (video)

Eric Dubay (ericdubay.com, 6/17/20); Pat Macpherson, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly.

Psychoneuroimmunology and the Placebo Effect
There is a well-researched branch of medicine called psycho-neuro-immunology. It studies the effect of thoughts and emotions on human biochemistry. Biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton left his tenured university position to pursue research in this fascinating field.

Spiritual Science (Eric Dubay)
The prevailing Western worldview for centuries has been built on the materialistic and mechanical model of Isaac Newton, a clockwork universe composed of separate particles of matter interacting according to objective, physical laws in space-time.

This model once succeeded in describing much of reality, but since the revelations of Einstein and the paradigm-shifting implications of quantum physics, Newton’s world has begun fading. It is being replaced by a spiritual science.

Topics in this book include: consciousness, quantum physics, the holographic universe, morphic fields, human energy body, psychoneuroimmunology, chi, chakras, meridians, acupuncture, auras, telepathy, psychokinesis, remote viewing, precognition (ESP), out-of-body experiences (OBEs), near death experiences (NDEs), entheogens (psychedelics), death, ghosts, rebirth, God, the Tao, Brahma (the Supreme Being), the void, infinite consciousness (Brahman), and oneness.

The Science of Pleasure: Jackpot (video)

Dr. Robert Sapolsky (FORA, 3/2/11); Ashley Wells, Pat Macpherson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Dopamine Jackpot! Stanford University's Dr. S. on the Science of Pleasure
Stanford University Professor of Biology and Neurology Robert Sapolsky compares dopamine levels in humans and monkeys. He argues that in both species, "Dopamine is not about pleasure. It's about the anticipation of pleasure. [It's not about happiness.] It's about the pursuit of happiness." Unlike monkeys, however, humans "keep those dopamine levels up for decades and decades waiting for the reward." Even going so far as waiting for those rewards in an afterlife, trying to make St. Peter proud.
Dr. Robert Sapolsky is also a research associate at the National Museums of Kenya and the author of several works of nonfiction, including A Primate's Memoir, The Trouble with Testosterone, Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers, and Monkeyluv: And Other Essays on Our Lives as Animals.

The Real Causes of Depression (TED video)

Johann Hari (How To: Academy, 2/4/18); Pat Macpherson, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
O, Mr. Grumpy Cat, rest in peace! We hardly knew ye. Why were you depressed?

The major TED speaker on addiction Johann Hari suggests that depression is NOT caused by any "chemical imbalance" in our brains but by crucial changes in the way we are living. Therefore, something can be done about it by ourselves. For Johann Hari this opens up seven new potential paths out of depression and anxiety -- ones that are very different to the paths we have been offered before. Immortality via the "New Transhumanism"

H+: Blended, biohacked, melded "Transhuman Biologist" (Melell/deviantart.com)
What is we hardwire the soft mushy brain with some hardware (WIRED/Getty Images).
.
The Responsibility of Immortality: Welcome to the New Transhumanism
Give us peace, love, understanding, and LSD!
In the summer of 1990, I was running a pretty weird nightclub in the Roppongi neighborhood of Buddhist Tokyo, Japan.

I was deeply immersed in the global cyberpunk scene and working to bring the Tokyo node of this fast-expanding, posthuman, science-fiction-and-psychedelic-drug-fueled movement online.
The Japanese scene was more centered around videogames and multimedia than around acid and other psychedelics.

And Harvard professor and psychedelics researcher Timothy Leary, a dean of 1960s’ counterculture and proponent of psychedelia, who was always fascinated with anything mind-expanding, was interested in learning more about it.

Fired Harvard Prof. Timothy Leary, LSD researcher, with John Lennon and Yoko Ono
.
AI is advancing, so transhumanists biohack.
Prof. Leary anointed the Japanese youth, including the 24-year-old me [Joi Ito], “The New Breed.”

He adopted me as a godson, and we started writing a book together about The New Breed, starting with “tune in, turn on, take over,” as a riff off his original and very famous “Turn on, tune in, drop out.”

We never finished the book, but we did end up spending a lot of time together. (I should dig out my old notes and finish the book.)

Leary introduced me to his friends in Los Angeles and San Francisco. They were a living menagerie of the counterculture in the United States since the ’60s.

There were the traditional New Age types: hippies, cyberpunks, and transhumanists, too.

In my early twenties, I was an eager and budding techno-utopian, dreaming of the day when I would become immortal and ascend to the stars into cryogenic slumber to awake on a distant planet.

Or perhaps I would have my brain uploaded into a computer network, to become part of some intergalactic superbrain.

    "Immortality"? No.
  • ["Intergalactic superbrain"? Sounds like Brahman (godhead, "GOD"), the Hindu/Mahayana Buddhist conception of the "higher self" or "luminous mind" they identify as our eternal "soul," atman, undying consciousness. Consciousness is dying all the time by it very nature, by virtue of how it works, which is segmented into three sub-phases of arising, turning, and passing away. In this way -- which can be observed directly in vipassana or insight-meditation -- all the contents of "mind" in the process of consciousness are impermanent, IMPERSONAL, and unsatisfactory. But never mind about that, call it a "self," worship it, strive for it, and call yourself "immortal." You shall be as Gods (devas, brahmas), right? Taking Molly/E/MDMA, Ecstasy, and going to raves talking about how desperate you are not to die because you don't understand what death is and isn't. Religion, not being good enough, forces you to worship Science as the new religion, the new thing that extends the promise of immortality, which in Buddhism is a mental defilement or asava called "craving for eternal existence." It is flawed and full of suffering, but we don't see that because we are driven by fear of dying and desperate attachment to things we don't understand are causing this suffering. It would be far better to wake up than to cling to notions of immortality, but trying telling that to the dying. Living beings (us and the gods) are the dying. We have no idea there is liberation, the deathless, through enlightenment and nirvana.]
Good times. Those were the days and, for some, still are.

Humans have been yearning for immortality at least since the Epic of Gilgamesh.

In Greek mythology, Zeus grants the Goddess Eos’s mortal lover Tithonus immortality -- but the goddess forgets to ask for eternal youth as well. Tithonus grows old and decrepit, begging for death.

Goddess Eos (Evelyn de Morgan)
When I hear about life extension today, I am often perplexed, even frustrated. Are we are talking about eternal youth, eternal old age, or having our cryogenically frozen brains thawed out 2,000 years from now to perform tricks in a future alien zoo?

The latest enthusiasm for eternal life largely stems not from any acid-soaked, tie-dyed counterculture but from the belief that technology will enhance humans and make them immortal.

Today’s transhumanist movement, sometimes called H+, encompasses a broad range of issues and diversity of belief.

But the notion of immortality -- or, more correctly, amortality [non-mortality] -- is the central tenet.
