- dharma is a multivalent term with at least a dozen distinct meanings. In India, dharma usually means "social duty or obligation," and Dharma (capitalized) customarily refers to the Buddha's Dharma or Doctrine, the Teachings of the historical figure Siddhartha Gautama. The word can loosely be construed to mean "religion," but religion did not mean religion in pre-British invasion India (Maha Bharat), so equating the terms is incorrect.

Liberals, Jon Stewart, and Bernie (JDS)
Jon Stewart on what went wrong for Democrats | The Daily Show
Analysis by Jimmy Dore & Co.
Listen, Liberal: Or, What Ever Happened to the Party of the People?
Author Thomas Frank has 4.5 out of 5 stars with 1,814 ratings. From the bestselling author of What's the Matter with Kansas, a scathing look at the standard-bearers of liberal politics, here's a book that asks:- What's the matter with Democrats?
But this is to fundamentally misunderstand the modern Democratic Party.
Drawing on years of research and firsthand reporting, Frank points out that the Democrats have done little to advance traditional liberal goals:
- expanding opportunity,
- fighting for social justice, and
- ensuring that workers get a fair deal.

| Justice now! For big killer cats |
Indeed, they have scarcely dented the free-market consensus at all. This is not for lack of opportunity: Democrats have occupied the White House for 16 of the last 24 years, yet the decline of the middle class has only accelerated.
Wall Street gets bailed out, wages keep falling, and the free trade deals keep coming.
With his trademark sardonic wit and lacerating logic, Frank lays bare the essence of the Democratic Party's philosophy and how it has changed over the years.
A form of corporate and cultural elitism has largely eclipsed the party's old working-class commitment, he finds. For certain favored groups, this has meant prosperity.
But for the nation as a whole, it is a one-way ticket into the abyss of inequality. In this critical election year, Frank recalls the Democrats to their historic goals -- the only way to reverse the ever-deepening rift between the rich and the poor in America. More (Audiobook)

Trump finally to go to jail? Judge rules
The judge overseeing DJ Trump's New York criminal trial delayed a key ruling today (Tuesday, 11/12/24) on whether the president-elect's felony conviction should be set aside, according to correspondence between the political parties.
Trump’s team wants the case dismissed completely, and the prosecution says it needs time to evaluate the next steps now that Trump has been re-elected.
The court has granted them a week's delay to provide their position.
In a letter to Judge Juan Merchan [who doesn't want to lose his pension or job], prosecutors said they agreed with Trump's request for a stay to consider how to proceed given his new status as president-elect.
"The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances and that the arguments raised by defense counsel in correspondence to the People on Friday require careful consideration to ensure that any further steps in this proceeding appropriately balance the competing interests of (1) a jury verdict of guilt following trial that has the presumption of regularity; and (2) the Office of the President," prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote in a letter to the judge.

“Accordingly, the People respectfully request that the Court adjourn the upcoming scheduled dates to afford the People time to assess these recent developments, and set November 19. 2024 as a deadline for the People to advise the Court regarding our view of appropriate steps," he added.
Trump had been tentatively scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 26. Trump was convicted in May on 34 felony counts related to hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Trump to be sentenced to prison (Fox)
Mr. Donald [the] John Trump will be ordered to serve time in prison when he is sentenced for falsifying business records in September, a Fox News columnist has said.
Andrew McCarthy, senior fellow at the National Review Institute and former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said Trump will not actually be incarcerated even if he is handed a custodial sentence on Sept. 18, as the former president will likely get bail pending appeal.
Instead, McCarthy said that Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw the hush money trial and will hand down Trump's sentence next month, will be helping Vice President Kamala Devi Harris and the "media-Democratic complex" to label Trump a convicted felon sentenced to prison just weeks before Election Day in November, 2024.
Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime after a New York jury found him guilty of 34 felony falsifying business records counts in May.
- [His earlier rape charges in a civil trial with hundreds of millions of dollars in fines are not called a crime so much as sexual abuse that lead to libel or defamation.]
He [in his narcissism, hubris, or craftiness] had denied all charges and said he was the victim of political persecution. He is likely to appeal.
The sentencing date was previously set for July 11 but was delayed until Sept. 18 as Merchan considers whether the Supreme Court's ruling granting Trump some presidential immunity for official acts committed in office affects the hush money case.
Writing for Fox News, McCarthy suggested "if we may read the tea leaves" that Judge Merchan will likely deny the immunity appeal from Trump's legal team.

"He said he plans to rule on Trump's immunity claim by Aug. 16," added McCarthy.
The former president's lawyers argued that evidence presented during the hush money trial, such as tweets and other communications, could be examples of official acts which the Supreme Court said Trump cannot be prosecuted over or be used as evidence.
Judge "Merchan has already decided that he will deny Trump's immunity motion. There is, moreover, a high likelihood that he will impose a prison sentence against Trump right after that," McCarthy said.
"The New York prosecution of Trump was politics, not justice. That's why we call it 'lawfare.' The prosecutors and judge are not concerned about whether convictions ultimately get thrown out on appeal. More: Donald Trump to be sentenced to prison in September: Fox News columnist (MSN)

It marks the first time in history that a former U.S. president has been tried and convicted on criminal charges. The fact that he was twice impeached does not change that he was (s)elected to be the 45th president and neither will this -- nor being found guilty and sent to prison for the next three serious criminal cases he is currently facing in other states. #trumpverdict

Hardcore followers of Donald Trump [MAGAots] are calling for riots, insurrection, and assassination after the disgraced candidate and loser (in court) was convicted of falsifying business records (which is financial fraud and a felony in NY) on [May 30].
A New York jury found the former president guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying records to cover up payments to porn star Stormy Daniels as part of a conspiracy to influence the outcome of the 2016 election -- the last part being what made all of these acts felonies.

Republican politicians widely refused to accept the verdict from the Manhattan trial, decrying the process using Trump's own catchy and oft-repeated slogans, such as: "rigged," "corrupt," "ridiculous," and "bullsh*t."
However, in messages seen by The Independent, and others reported by Reuters, Trump loyalists on right-wing social networks went much further: "Find the jurors. All of them. Take no prisoners [which is to say, KILL them]," wrote one user on a Trump-focused message board.
Some posts used coded language, such as one which urged "short drops" – that is, execution by hanging [as MAGAots planned for VP Pence on Jan. 6th during the minor uprising in D.C.] – for the people responsible for Trump's [negative outcome at] trial.

- [It is odd that MAGAots are this made in what is just the second trial in a row that Donald "Winner" Trump has lost. Remember? He was just fined and forced to cough up half a billion dollars or risk losing his properties. That was about rape, sexual abuse, and defamation. This is about financial fraud. But he faces three much more serious trials to come, during which he is almost certainly going to be sent to prison related to election tampering and that tiny insurrection he fomented and called on his MAGAots to carry out for him, promising he would protect them from prosecution for their felonies, treason, and violence. Did he? Oops. He's all about No. 1.]
