Trump's former White House lawyer says Trump will be found guilty

(Newsweek) Today (May 28, 2024), Trump's former lawyer Ty Cobb warned that the ex-president will likely be found guilty because of jury instructions.
Trump's ex-lawyer predicted this week that the ex-president will be found guilty in his ongoing criminal trial in Manhattan, NY, citing the jury instructions given by New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan.
On Tuesday, former White House lawyer Ty Cobb spoke with Morgan Chalfant of Semafor about Trump's ongoing criminal trial where he is accused of more than 30 felonies and financial fraud surrounding his hush money payments to prostitute and former adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

"If the jury begins deliberations Tuesday afternoon, expect a verdict no later than Friday afternoon. I expect a 'GUILTY' verdict, but only because the jury instructions as urged by the DA (district attorney) and adopted by the judge, over strenuous and well-founded defense objections, virtually require conviction," Cobb said to Semafor.
"I reach this legal conclusion because of my long experience as a federal prosecutor and white collar defense lawyer, my reverence for the rule of law, and despite my view that Trump remains the greatest threat to Democracy in our nation's history," Cobb added.
Newsweek has reached out to Cobb for comment.
Trump appeared in court on Tuesday (today, 5/28/24) in New York for his ongoing criminal trial brought by District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Trump was indicted last April by Bragg, who said that the ex-president "fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal crimes that hid damaging information—including a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels—from the public during the 2016 presidential campaign." This is a further discussion by Henry Reich that helps summarize why Axes 1 and 3 are generally stable while Axis 2 is not:
In general, imagine that, because the object can rotate in a bunch of different directions, the components of energy and momentum could be free to change, while the total momentum stays constant.
However, in the case of Axis 1, the kinetic energy is the highest possible for a given angular momentum. And in the case of Axis 3, the kinetic energy is the lowest possible for a given angular momentum.
(This can easily be shown from conservation of energy and momentum equations. And this is also fairly intuitive from the fact that kinetic energy is proportional to velocity squared, while momentum is proportional to velocity. So in the case of Axis 1, the smaller masses will have to be spinning faster for a given momentum. They will thus have more energy, and vice versa for Axis 3, where all the masses are spinning: The energy will be lowest).
In fact, this is a strict inequality: If the energy is highest possible, there are no other possible combinations of momenta other than L2=L3=0, and vice versa for [L1] if the energy is the lowest possible.
Because of this, in the case of Axis 1, the energy is so high that there simply aren't any other possible combinations of angular momentum components L1, L2, and L3. The object would have to lose energy in order to spin differently. And in the case of Axis 3, the energy is so low that there likewise is no way for the object to be rotating other than purely around Axis 3. It would have to gain energy.
However, there's no such constraint for Axis 2 since the energy is somewhere in between the min and max possible. This, together with the centrifugal effects, means that the components of momentum do change.

Judge James Chalfant ruled that the EIR fails to provide an adequate mitigation program to address the project’s significant impacts on rare and sensitive riparian lands resulting from the project’s proposed destruction of 51 acres of prime stream-zone habitat.

The ruling stops the county’s plan to remove 2.4 million cubic yards of sediment from the basin until another EIR is approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
As part of the project, LA County wants to make 425 truck trips a day over five years to remove the sediment.
Chalfant said the EIR was flawed in its conclusion that the hundreds of diesel trucks would have no impact on the area’s air quality.
The judge also took the county to task for simply stating that the Flood Control District would mitigate habitat loss damage on a one-to-one basis, meaning they would enhance one acre for each acre destroyed for not providing an adequate mitigation plan and for not documenting why it believed that a one-to-one mitigation ratio was adequate.
“We are proud of the accomplishments of our lawsuit so far and grateful to our attorneys, Mitchell Tsai and Christina Caro, who have done a fine job of presenting the case,” said Tim Brick of the Arroyo Seco Foundation, which along with the Pasadena Audubon Society sued to stop the project.
The last time the county removed a significant amount of sediment from the area was in 1994, when workers hauled out 160,000 cubic yards of soil.
Since then, about 2.7 million cubic yards have built up around the dam. An additional 1 million cubic yards of debris were dumped into the area by the Station Fire in 2009, which burned 160,000 acres in Altadena, Pasadena, La Cañada/Flintridge, and Acton.
The county contends sediment compromises the dam’s ability to contain debris and floodwaters. If it is not removed, locations along the Arroyo Seco ["Dry Riverbed"] downstream from the dam -- including the Rose Bowl, the Pasadena (110) Freeway, and neighborhoods in West Pasadena -- could be in danger of flooding.

Last year city officials were monitoring the dam due to rumors of a monster-sized El Niño weather condition that was predicted but did not materialize.

So let me see if I have this straight. A racist white man with a Latin mother -- whose father, Robert, is a white judge with undo influence -- proclaims himself a neighborhood watch commander. He stalks and threatens a black child who is minding his own business but later proven guilty of being black. Said man provokes a fight with the child while carrying a concealed weapon to aid his machismo. He shoots the child in cold blood then lies (dissembles, makes inconsistent statements, alters his story) about it in a transparent bid to protect himself, likely with the help of his father. He almost isn't even arrested or charged because his father pulls in favors to immediately dismiss any talk of charges. This in spite of the fact that the first investigator recommends charging him. (Police Chief Bill Lee, a friend of Judge Zimmerman, invokes Stand Your Ground statute).
Then due only to outrage and a massive public outcry does the system put on a charade of a trial, the defense of which is funded by donations (presumably sent in mostly by witting and unwitting racists), he then conspires with his wife to lie about not having any funds and therefore needing public assistance to cover bail, is caught, held, but ultimately exonerated in a charade of a trial that was trying to get him off every step of the way? I don't see anything wrong with that. Why not let him go?
Let bygones be bygones. Even his would-be father, Pres. B.S. Obama, says: Oh well, whaddya gonna do? Stay calm. Let's reflect quietly, let's ban guns (because guns kill people, not racist), and let's not disturb The Machine, which is making so much money for so many of my new One Percenter friends.

Hating hateful actions (like murder) or hateful actors (like murderers) makes us guilty of hate. Hate is toxic to all who harbor it, and it is not cured by vigilantism or revenge.
There are those who give free rein to hate when it arises like stampeding horses. There are others who pull the reins and control their chariot even when the horses are bolting. The Buddha called the latter "charioteers," whereas the former are merely holding the reins.
American hatred has grown so great -- animosity at a mother or a trial gone wrong -- that citizens are ready to lynch anyone named Casey Anthony.
Searching Facebook, many have found a man by the same name and tormented him. His response to the vigilante mob? "I can't change my name, ladies and gentlemen."
"Casey Anthony" is a 43-year-old African-American male. He lives in Darby, Pennsylvania, and just happens to share the name of a 25-year-old Anglo-American female from Orlando, Florida, who is infamous for being found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter.

Mr. Casey Anthony has been bombarded on Facebook. He estimates that he has gotten at least 300 friend requests, messages, and posts, all targeting the other Casey Anthony.
"After the verdict that day, it went crazy. It was like everybody wanted to know and wanted to comment on this Casey Anthony situation," he explains.
The Antidote is the Opposite There are Three Poisons of the heart/mind: greed, hatred (often expressed as fear), and delusion. It is wise to root them out at every opportunity. It is easier to transmute or transform them into something useful than it is to rid oneself of them.
But surely if they remain, they are serving as the basis of unprofitable karma (unskillful action of mind, speech, or body). Their "antidotes" are categories of opposite states -- nongreed, nonhatred, and nondelusion. Three immediate remedies are given as:
Why would one even try to avoid or abandon hatred if it is manifesting as "righteous indignation"? Surely, that justifies it and strengthens us to act in opposition!?
No, what it does is obscure the mind, cause one to act in ways that result in remorse, that bring about suffering for us (when those actions later ripen), the bring humans down to subhuman states.
Hate helps no one. And those who say it does are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Transform it, transmute it, let it go, be freed from it, free others from it -- for it will surely drag us down, and we will only realize it too late.

YANGON, Burma – Burma's military government said Thursday that its trial of Aung San Suu Kyi would have no political impact, though many have criticized the proceedings as a ploy to sideline the pro-democracy leader during elections scheduled for 2010.
The highly popular Suu Kyi, whom the regime has sought to remove from the political arena through years of detention, is on trial for violating the terms of her house arrest after an American man swam to and sneaked into our lakeside home.
A Foreign Ministry statement, carried in state-owned newspapers, said the trial was strictly related to the rule of law and "will not have any political impact."
"The government, therefore, will hold multiparty general elections, fifth step of the Road Map, in 2010," the statement said, referring to the junta's "road map to democracy," which critics say will merely extend the military's decades-long rule under the guise of democracy.
The only witness the defense is allowed to call was scheduled to appear at Thursday's court session as the proceedings seemed to be nearing their end. More>>
