Hey, don't you mean FASTING? Yes, but David Wood (below) assures us it's actually FEASTING that will be happening all of this Muslim-month, with lots of sleep and deluded back-patting of how "pious" and "holy" we're being in observance of sacred traditions.

The many benefits of fasting

The same happens in Buddhism, where monastics observe a daily "fast" (not eating after noon or before dawn) but may overeat the rest of the time, often developing diabetes, cholesterol problems, and all kinds of diseases of modernity as a consequence. Saudi Arabia has many people suffering from overeating, not starvation, during the Ramadan "fast."

It seems even more ridiculous in Holy Roman Catholicism, at least the American version, where asking good Catholics to "fast" -- abstain from eating dead animals in the form of "meat" -- was just too much to ask. Forty days without dead fish? How is McDonald's supposed to make money? (Are fish animals? We thought they were).

Eat all the seed-bearing plants and fruit in the world, which the good God hath made: Genesis 1:29 quotes the God as saying, "Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food. But that's not good enough. We need to kill animals, or pay people to kill them for us, even during Lent, a 40-day period of abstaining and austerity, abandoning all kinds of bad habits. Does Protestantism advocate fasting? Sort of.

Rescue teams have been digging through the rubble of collapsed buildings in the hope of finding survivors.  At least 30,000 people are said to be homeless.

What could have happened in Libya?

We'll misuse all technology we get our hands on

Being the U.S. military's easy target (here's a nod to you, slave-resisting Haiti), belligerent enemy (anyone who dares talk back, eh-hem, U.S.-embarrassing North Korea), or anyone who does not cooperate with the U.S. Empire's plans for world domination (Chinese-friend Mr. Putin) is not a safe thing to be. There are no international standards, at least none that any force dare impose.

NATO are puppets the U.S. manipulates to do its dirty work. Once a very smart man, Muammar Khaddafi realized he should unite the countries of the continent of Africa and make a gold-back unit of money to compete with the universal greenback (the presumptive world currency because of the U.S. imposing its use on everyone else for the oil trade). This earned the wealthy leader of Libya a death sentence. The U.S. was not going to put up with a fair playing field or a united Pan-Africa.

Though he was taken out, with one president bombing his personal house to teach him a lesson, flaunting all international standards, using the pretext that it was just revenge for something or a preemptive strike on something we were going to say he was going to do. Now the world is expected to believe that, while the U.S. Department of War (under the euphemism "defense"), the CIA, the Pentagon, and alphabet agencies such as the NSA and NSC are just going to sit on the weather modification secret weapons they possess?

Sure, this horrific flooding that has already killed 20,000 is just an "act of God," climate change collateral damage, chance, bad luck... The covert military had no hand in it. We're just a God-fearing nation seeking vengeance on or enemies, real and perceived. We'll make an example out of any impoverished country or tiny military to enlarge our empire and deploy more and more unbelievable weaponry, all while convincing U.S. taxpayers that we actually need more military spending to keep up with everyone else because we spend more than everyone else put together when black budget project estimates are included.

(Bright Insight) The only thing more bizarre than a 16 foot (nearly 5 meter) tall statue depicting a five-legged human-headed bull with wings -- which, by the way, was carved out of a single massive piece of stone, weighing some 40 imperial tons, or 80,000 lbs. -- is how and where they were found

They were buried, consumed in earth almost as if they had been devoured by some sort of cataclysmic mud-flood event.

These spectacular yet ominous Ancient Sumerian winged-bull sculptures are known as the Lamassu and are among the remnants of the Assyrian Empire, which made up the heart of Ancient Mesopotamia, commonly referred to as the Fertile Crescent.

The only thing more bizarre than the statues themselves, or how and where they found them, is the deliberate, continued, and systematic destruction of Ancient Iraq along with the rape, kidnapping, and forced marriage of Yazidi women and girls, following the genocidal extermination of Yazidi men and boys by mercenaries paid to wipe them out.

Let’s not forget, this just happens to be the very land that has long been referenced as the so-called "Cradle of Civilization," the very place where the Sumerians emerged.

A lunar-crescent-shaped stone monument that dates back around 5,000 years has been identified in Israel.
 
Located about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of the Sea of Galilee, the structure is massive.

Its volume is almost 500,000 cubic feet (about 14,000 cubic meters), and its length is about 492 feet (150 meters), making it longer than an American football field.
 
Pottery excavated at the structure indicates the monument dates to between 3050 B.C. and 2650 B.C., meaning it is likely older than [some of] the pyramids of Egypt. It was also built before much of Stonehenge was [previously thought to have been] constructed.
 
Archaeologists previously thought the structure was part of a city wall, but recent work carried out by Ido Wachtel, a doctoral student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, indicates there is no city beside it and that the structure is a standing monument.
 
"The proposed interpretation for the site is that it constituted a prominent landmark in its natural landscape, serving to mark possession and to assert authority and rights over natural resources by a local rural or pastoral population," Wachtel wrote in the summary of a presentation given recently at the International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East. A 5,000-year-old stone structure in the shape of the crescent moon in northern Israel has been identified to be an ancient monument, predating much of the construction of Stonehenge in England and Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
 

The structure, known as Rujum en-Nabi Shua'ayb or Jethro Cairn, is located near the Sea of Galilee.

 
It was initially discovered in the early part of the 20th century, and was thought to form part of an ancient city's defensive walls.
 

But doctoral student Ido Wachtel from Hebrew University in Jerusalem recently made a convincing case that the construction served as a monument in its own right.
 
“The proposed interpretation for the site is that it constituted a prominent landmark in its natural landscape, serving to mark possession and to assert authority and rights over natural resources by a local rural or pastoral population,” Mr. Wachtel wrote in a paper submitted to an archaeology conference in Switzerland.

 

Presenting his findings at the International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East, Mr. Wachtel said the structure may have been erected to honor the ancient Mesopotamian moon god, "Sin" [Akkadian Su'en].

 

One of the most important gods in Mesopotamian [Babylonian and Sumerian] mythology, Sin, also known as "Nanna," is symbolized as a crescent moon and is often depicted riding on a winged bull [as a "mount" or vahana in Vedic-Hindu mythology].

 

The structure was found close to the ancient Israeli town of Bet Yerah [(Khirbet Kerak) Arabic Sinn en-Nabra or Al-Sinnabra], which translates as "house of the moon god" and is believed to have been linked to the town's religious community. The tell spans an area of over 50 acres -- one of the largest in the Levant -- and contains remains dating from the Early Bronze Age (c. 3000 BC-2000 BC) and from the Persian period (c. 450 BC) through to the early Islamic period (c. 1000 AD) [Ibid.; The Holy Land: An Archaeological Guide from Earliest Times to 1700, Jerome Murphy O'Connor, Oxford University Press, 1980, p.159 Milgrom, Jacob; Wright, David Pearson; Freedman, David Noel; Hurvitz, Avi (1995)].

A form of Early Bronze Age pottery first discovered at the tell but also seen in other parts of the Levant (including Jericho, Beth Shan, Tell Judeideh, and Ugarit) is known as "Khirbet Kerak ware" [Pomegranates and golden bells: studies in biblical, Jewish, and Near Eastern ritual, law, and literature in honor of Jacob Milgrom (Illustrated ed.).
