The Scythians or Scyths, also known as the Pontic Scythians [1, 2] were an ancient Eastern Iranic (Aryan) equestrian nomadic people (the Indo-Sakas, the Indo-Scythian Kingdom, near Maha Bharata, the future Empire of Greater India, being the Buddha's extended family) who migrated east to Bihar and later, during the 9th to 8th centuries BC from, Central Asia to the Pontic Steppe in modern-day Ukraine and Southern Russia, where they remained until the 3rd century BC....

Ancient Asia's forgotten blonde DNA

Ancient Asia’s forgotten blonde DNA

Could I have ancient Far Western Chinese DNA?
(Ancestry CodeBlond and redheaded Asians with green and blue eyes? The historical Buddha (from Gandhara/Central Asia had blue eyes, too?) Something buried beneath the sands of Western China has shaken the story of our past to its core. In a land once feared as “the place of no return,” the sands of the Taklamakan Desert kept a secret no one was meant to find — archeologists uncovered something no one was prepared for.
EurasiaThe Caucasus are in Western Asia?
Men with auburn beards. Women with golden-red hair. Children whose strawberry braids still glimmered after 4,000 years. The desert had kept them perfectly intact — skin, clothes, even strands of colorful hair untouched by time.

Their faces were tall and sharp, their clothing woven with patterns never seen in ancient China. Nothing about them made sense. For centuries, old chronicles spoke of “yellow-haired tribes” roaming China’s far west — tales dismissed as wild exaggerations or legend. But these bodies proved the stories were real.

Story of the Buddha in five minutes

The Scythian Prince Siddhartha: The Buddha
(Dhamma Super Rich) Here is the life of the Buddha, or at least an attempt at the highlights, told in five minutes. Sadly, it makes the usual mistake of emphasizing the wrong thing while giving a gist of the allegory that is the Awakened One's life. The Buddha literally means "the Awakened One." Where does it go wrong?

Anyone listening to this summary might conclude that the reason the wandering ascetic Siddhartha was able to "awaken" (become enlightened) is because he made a strong determination (a vow to sooner shrivel up and have his blood turn to dust before getting up from) under the Bodhi tree. He determined to awaken by a massive effort.

Clear vision happens if we strain and strive?
Anyone familiar with the story of in detail of how Siddhartha became the Buddha might notice that this is exactly why for nearly seven years he failed and could not awaken, not breakthrough, not bring about ultimate realization (penetrating insight).

It was only when he, in a sense, "gave up" pushing (extreme asceticism) and muscling (efforting) -- and instead surrendered self will -- that awakening happened on its own.
  • (By Sayalay Susila, Dhr. Seven)
The Truth is always there. It's just that we do not notice it, do not comprehend things as they really are, do not penetrate what we have learned and memorized to the heart of the matter. What is missing is not the Truth to be perceived. What is missing is our clear-vision, our undistorted knowing-and-seeing. And this will not be accomplished by more and more effort. That would be like straining and squinting the dust-covered eye as if by mere effort-of-will things would become clear. They will not. We must first purify the mind/heart that knows and sees. That is temporarily by the absorptions. CONTINUED

Rock-cut Buddhist temple cave: Karla

Carved Straight from the Bedrock: The Great Chaitya Cave of India
(Ancient Architects) Oct. 7, 2025: There are a number of famous examples of enigmatic rock-cut architecture in the world. India is one place in particular that is famous for its manmade (deva-made) caves.

There are the famous Buddhist Ellora Caves that date back to 600-1000 AD, which includes the breathtaking and seemingly impossible Kailasa Temple, the Ajanta caves, which are even older, but there are also the lesser-known Karla Caves.

They are not all as elaborate as the others, but it is a site that should certainly be on everyone's radar. The Karla Caves are located near Lonavala, Maharashtra, a complex of amazing ancient Buddhist Indian temples carved directly from bedrock, dating back from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD.

Maharashtra has many larger examples of artificial (human-made) cave networks, but Cave 8 at Karla, known as The Grand Chaitya Cave, is the largest and most completely preserved chaitya hall of the period with beautiful, ornate architecture, featuring many examples of fine sculpture. Watch this video to find out more about this human wonder of the world.

Buddhism's Karla Caves, India
Magnificent rock-cut hollow hall with stupa
The Karla Caves (also Karli Caves, Karle Caves, Karla Cells) are a complex of ancient Buddhist Indian rock-cut caves at Karli near Lonavala, Maharashtra State.

The site is 10.9 kms from Lonavala. Others in the area include Bhaja Caves, Patan Buddhist Cave, Bedse Caves, and Nasik Caves.

The shrines were developed over the period from the 2nd century BCE to the 5th century CE. The oldest of the cave shrines is believed to date back to 160 BCE, having arisen near a major ancient trade route, running eastward from the Arabian Sea into the Deccan.

The group at Karla is one of the older and smaller of the many rock-cut Buddhist sites in Maharashtra, India.

It is one of the best-known because of the famous "Grand Chaitya" (Cave 8), the largest and most completely preserved chaitya hall of the period, containing unusual quantities of fine sculpture on a large scale [1].

Cross section of Grand Hall with stupa (Karla)
Many traders, Western Satraps of Saka [aka Shakyian, Scythian] origin and Satavahana rulers made grants for construction and support of these caves.

Karla's location in Maharashtra places it in a region that marks the division between North India and South India [2].

Buddhists, having become identified with commerce and manufacturing through their early association with traders, tended to locate their monastic establishments in natural geographic formations close to major trade routes so as to provide lodging houses for travelling traders [3].

Today, the cave complex is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India [4]. More

Greco-Buddhism in Hellenistic Far East

BOOK: Greco-Buddhist Relations in the Hellenistic Far East
Dr. Olga Kubica, University of Wroclaw
Author Dr. Olga Kubica has 4.4 out of 5 stars with four ratings. This book provides the first comprehensive and interdisciplinary view of the relationship between the Greeks and Buddhist communities in ancient Bactria and Northwest India [Scythian Gandhara, now Afghanistan and Pakistan], from the conquests of Alexander the Great to the fall of the Indo-Greek kingdom circa 10 AD.

Greco-Buddhist Relations...
The main thesis is the assumption that, despite the presence of mutual relationships and interactions between the Greeks and Buddhist inhabitants of the Hellenistic Far East, the phenomenon known conventionally as "Greco-Buddhism" never truly occurred.

The individual chapters of this book provide an analysis of the main sources for Greco-Buddhist relations, mainly textual, but also archeological [excavated sites] and numismatic [coinage].
Who are the Hazara people?
The methods of philological and historical research are used in combination with postcolonial approaches to the study of the Greeks in India, drawing from sociological research on ethnicity and intercultural relations.

It is a rich source of information for anyone interested in Greco-Buddhist relations and is a great starting point for further research in this area.

This volume (1st edition) is a valuable resource for students and scholars working on the Greco-Bactrian and Indo-Greek kingdoms, both classicists and those working on early Indian history, as well as those working on cultural exchange in the Hellenistic world. More

The Buddha-Dhamma (Bhikkhu Bodhi)

Nobody explained existence this clearly — except the Buddha himself
Ego (Buddhism podcast) Buddhism Explained 🌿 Why are we here? [Can we go now? Can we hang out a little longer?] What is the meaning of existence? These timeless questions have haunted humanity for millennia.

And more than 2,500 years ago, one man offered the clearest, most transformative answer ever given — the Buddha. In this compelling exploration of the Buddha’s life and mission, we retrace his journey from hedonistic royal comfort to shamanic spiritual awakening, his fearless renunciation of power and pleasure in pursuit of a deeper truth, and his discovery of the Middle Way — a path of profound insight, mental clarity, and ethical freedom.

Through stories like Kisagotami, the grieving mother, and Angulimala, the feared mass murderer turned monk, we witness how the Buddha’s wisdom was not just a philosophy, but a living force of compassion and transformation.

Who was "the Buddha"?

🔍 This video reveals:
  • – Why the Buddha rejected metaphysical speculation and instead focused on the practical problem of suffering
  • – How his teaching remains universally relevant in a world flooded with confusion, anxiety, and distraction
  • – What makes the Dhamma radically empowering: no savior to worship, no doctrine to blindly follow — just insight, mindfulness, and ethical responsibility
🙏 Whether a long-time Buddhist practitioner or simply searching for clarity in a chaotic world, this teaching offers a timeless mirror to see self — and life — more clearly.

💬 "Come and see for yourself," the Buddha said. This may be the most direct, most human explanation of existence ever shared.

The Buddha and His Dhamma

Bhikkhu Bodhi anthology
Buddhism originated with an Indian Scythian prince known as [Prince Siddhartha Gautama or Siddhattha Gotama, later called "the Enlightened One" or] the Buddha, who taught in [the frontier] Northeast [of future] India [Scythia, Saka, Shakya Land, Central Asia, ancient Gandhara, next to proto-India at a time when there was not yet an "India" but there had already been a Maha Bharat] in the fifth century BCE.

Two centuries later, with the support of the Buddhist Emperor Asoka [who created "India" by uniting disparate kingdoms on the subcontinent or Jambudvipa/Roseapple Land], Buddhism spread over the greater part of India and from there traveled the full breadth of the Asian continent.

In several tidal waves of missionary zeal, it rose up from its Indian homeland and inundated other regions, offering the peoples among whom it took root a solid foundation of faith [saddha, verifiable confidence] and wisdom upon which to build their lives and a source of inspiration towards which to direct their hopes.

At different points in history Buddhism has commanded followings in countries as diverse geographically, ethnically, and culturally as Afghanistan [Kapilavastu/Kapilavatthu, Kabul, Bamiyan, and Mes Aynak] and Japan, Siberia and Cambodia, Korea and Sri Lanka; yet, all have looked towards the same Indian sage as their master.
