I'm so ugly and sad...and pretty?

If I feel pretty, am I pretty? - To someone.
(pale blue wave) I stopped her in the park, and what she told me broke my heart. So I photographed her portrait.

If "ugly" is a feeling (an emotion), what is beauty?

Is self-confidence beautiful and self-doubt revolting?

Personality is incomprehensibly important so that even dwarves, Elephant Men, beasts, and hideous creatures are beautiful to some beauties out there.

Beauty is only skin deep. Deep inside the skin are very lovely things -- charm, comeliness, humor, riches! What is any one of us after other than being loved, feeling protected, comforted, understood, accommodated? Some even get off on loving others.

beauty, sadness, loneliness, photography, park, parable of touching a woman, dating, heartbreak, marriage, the four bases of popularity

Nude Poetry with Füde, NY to LA (8/7)

Now I'd like to bring out Leehee Bee, a hot piece of asymptote on our stage for the first time.
.
Reading my poetry is a new kind of "naked"
What performing poetry reveals about language, vulnerability, the fear of being (mis)understood

Could I stand in front of people fully nude?
A few months ago, I [Lihi Be] stood on a stage in New York City and performed slam poetry for the first time. The scene was hosted by Nuyorican Poets' Cafe at the Bowery Poetry Club, a small, legendary room where decades of poets have stepped up to a microphone and turned their inner worlds into sound.

It's the kind of place where language has history, where words have weight, where the air feels charged from voices that came before.

Enough with old white male writers! Sit down!

lihi be, the i in mi, this breath and body
I remember standing there
, waiting my turn, feeling my heart beating in my throat, which surprised me. I’ve spoken in front of rooms before. I’ve guided workshops, taught movement, led breathwork journeys where people open parts of themselves that are tender and alive.

Holding space for others doesn’t scare me. But this was different. This time, I wasn’t holding material space; I was the material. A poem I wrote alone earlier that morning was about to leave the page and hit the stage, entering a room full of strangers, not through dead ink, but through my living breath, my voice, my body.

Lihi Benisty poetry: Self
Until that moment, "poetry" was something I wrote, never something I performed. When I published my book, The Self, Reframed, it felt like a big step outward. Suddenly the poems were technically "public." Someone, anyone, could order the book, underline a passage, carry a piece of it into her own life.

Butt even then, there was still distance. The page protected me. Readers meet a poem alone. They can pause, reread, close the book, throw it in the garbage disposal, flip the switch, make acid-free wood pulp that washes out to sea... That meeting happens quietly, inside their own interior worlds.

Shame? We refuse to limit ourselves
Slam poetry is different: Spoken word removes the distance. When one performs a poem, there is no safe distance, no page between the room and the I performing. My breath carries my language. My nervous system becomes part of the delivery. My voice, my pauses, my trembling chest -- all of it becomes part of my poem.

In some ways, it feels easier to be naked than to perform one's own poem, in the woods, with someone you love, in front of Mother Nature, playing pretend it's Adam and Eve in a Sumerian garden.

Look, it's the real me!
I was in New York for a series of gatherings -- one of them a nude experience I was hosting with the Füde Experience: a roomful of naked people exploring embodiment, mindful presence, the simplicity of being in our bodies without the usual layers of social armor.

Standing naked in a room with others didn’t feel nearly as vulnerable as standing on this stage. In fact, being naked felt surprisingly simple. Source: a poem is a different kind of naked (seeds of the self)

Lost tribe of Jews found in NE India?

Have you kept Jewish custom of Molech?
(Unpacked) Is this tribe in India secretly Jewish [Asian Jews]? Bene Manashe or Bnei Menashe

The warlike Bnei Menashe (Hebrew בני מנשה or "Children of Menasseh" known as the Shinlung in India [5]) is a community of Indian Jews from various Tibeto-Burmese [6] ethnic groups from the border of India, Bangladesh, and Burma (Myanmar) who claim descent from one of the Lost Tribes of Israel [7][5]: 3 , allegedly based on the Hmar belief in an ancestor named Manmasi [8]. Some of them have adopted Judaism [5] [though most seem to have been converted to Christianity by Western missionaries before realizing they were "Jews," though they have not been easily accepted by white supremacist Ashkenazi-dominated Israeli society even if officials offered them expedited conversion]. The community has around 10,000 members [1]. More

Gandharan Buddhist Texts: Rhino Sutra

First statues of the Buddha
In the years following Alexander the Great’s conquest of the East, a series of empires rose up along the Silk Road. In what is now northern Pakistan, the civilizations in the region called ancient Gandhara became increasingly important centers for the development of Buddhism, reaching their apex under King Kaniska of the Kusanas (Kushan Empire) in the second century CE.

Gandhara has long been known for its Greek-Indian (Greco-Buddhist) synthesis in architecture and statuary, but until about 20 years ago, almost nothing was known about its Buddhist literature (Gandhāran Buddhist texts).

Buddhist Lit of Ancient Gandhara
The insights provided by manuscripts unearthed over the last few decades show that Gandhara was indeed a vital link in the early development of Buddhism, instrumental in both the transmission (Journey to the WestMonkey King) of Buddhism to China and the rise of the Mahayana tradition.

The Buddhist Literature of Ancient Gandhara surveys what we know about Gandhara and its Buddhism, and it also provides translations of a dozen different short texts, from similes and stories to treatises on time and reality.

(Athena Art Foundation) Feb. 20, 2023: The history of ancient Gandharan art is a reminder of Afghanistan's diverse and beautiful history, in poignant contrast to its current political turmoil. 🇦🇫 Gandhara was an ancient region located in parts of present-day northeast Afghanistan and northwest Pakistan. Gandharan sculpture is characterized by its combination of ancient Greek and Buddhist styles, highly influenced by the conquest of Alexander the Great in 327 BC. #sculptor #arthistory #learnart
Superiority of Solitude in Early Buddhism: "The Rhinoceros Sutta"

(Doug's Dharma) Nov. 27, 2023: Is solitary practice superior? [The best companionship is with a kalyana-mitta or "noble friend," and the second best, if no such friend can be found, is to go alone.] Let us consider the problem through a look at one of the most powerful and enigmatic early Buddhist poems, the Rhinoceros Sutra. What does it tell us, and who composed it?
  • 00:00 Intro — viewer question and a poem
  • 02:26 What does the poem say?
  • 04:37 The central tension of Buddhist practice: solitude and community
  • 08:06 Who composed the poem, when, and why?
  • 09:14 Pre-Buddhist origin?
  • ["Pre-Buddhist" refers to when there were only silent or non-teaching (pacceka-) buddhas, considered pre-Buddhist because the historical Supremely Enlightened Buddha (samma-sam-buddha) Siddhartha Gautama or Shakyamuni has not yet arisen in the world; however, there have been other supremely awakened teaching buddhas in the distant past. This means there were Buddhists before Buddhism even if they were not called that and a long line of at least 28 teaching-buddhas mentioned by the Buddha as having preceded him.]

Leaving behind White supremacy, almost

Former right-wing extremist now warns others about adopting extreme ideologies (doc)

Far Right Network in Canada
(wocomoHUMANITY) UNITED STATES. Brad Galloway was a white 18-year-old punk rocker in and out of trouble with the law, a street brawler already at his fourth high school, a kid without direction, and therefore a prime target for a neo-Nazi recruiter.

Promising comradeship in a gang of “like-minded” guys, a place where Brad could finally find what he wanted most: belonging.

I really want white Canada to be my 51st state.
SKINHEAD tells Brad’s story – how he spent 13 years in “the movement,” climbing the ranks from skinhead rabble-rouser to the Canadian boss of an ultra-violent U.S. gang called Volksfront.

Brad has been out for five years, raising a family and getting his university degree in criminology. But most of all, he’s been working on leaving behind the hate groups that defined who he was for so much of his life – and watching those groups come back to life.

Babe, I'm Hitler in Mein Kampf
“I call them white supremacy groups because that's all it is,” says Brad Galloway. “What they are presenting as new is actually a very old idea of white marginalization. “I think my message is this: understand by adopting these types of extreme ideologies, that you are signing up for losing those years of your life.  You will definitely lose time and you will be affecting others negatively. You will lose that time in your life.”

Neo-Nazism could never happen in US Capitol
FILM
: SKINHEAD steps back and takes a look at the scope of racist movements not only in the USA but in Canada, too. SKINHEAD is largely Brad’s story – his journey into a movement, his journey out, and what he sees happening next in this hyper-partisan age of racial tension under Pres. Trump. Original title: Skinhead. Directed by Andrew Gregg © 2018, licensed by Jambika.
