Guided Loving Kindness Meditation | Buddhism in English
(Buddhism) MettÄ (Sanskrit maitrÄ«) means loving-kindness [2, 3], friendliness [3, 4], benevolence [1], amity [4], goodwill [5], and active interest in the welfare of others [4]. It is the first of the "Four Sublime Abidings" (Brahma Viharas) and one of the Ten Perfections (pÄramÄ«s) of the TheravÄda Buddhist school. More
This is a special meditation. Linda Pappa has intuitively been drawing caves and Earth vortices for the past few years, feeling very grounded and connected to them.
We can work with [the archetype of] The Cave in a subtle way. Fall approaches, and darkness starts to creep in. The Cave can be a symbol of winter shelter and journeying within.
Will we listen and go inward, or will we stay superficial? During a Winter Solstice ceremony, I led a meditation guided by The Cave. It felt like nothing else.
Caves, where does one begin? Caves are places of profundity, density, and form.
Caves bring us into the present, representing a sacred space of retreat. It has always been so. This is womb-consciousness, Bhumi/Gaia/Tierra's own. They are temples, holy places of offering, where introspection and deep inner transformation can take place.
This is Mother Nature's womb, our birth canal? - Well, yeah, I mean, in a way, metaphorically.
.
Returning to Earth’s womb means returning to our own center, returning to our Source and Ground, to the dark inner point of a sacred labyrinth.
I forgot I buried all that to not have to feel it.
The Cave resides inside, the deepest, most intimate spot. It holds our secrets, our traumas, our pains, and our potential for magic.
Our modern way of living does not encourage us to go into a place like this at all. It’s dark and scary. But if we dare to visit often enough, we will not only transform ourselves, but also our ties to others, our ancestors, and the greater whole.
The Cave can be a place of HEALING, begging us to FEEL so that we can finally process our emotions, take their lessons, and pass them through us as we notice, acknowledge, and claim them.
Inner fire digests food, warms and builds us.
The way to make ourselves feel comfortable going into darkness (and wanting to stay there long enough for transformation) is to work with the elemental energy of fire, or temperature (tejo-dhatu).
Not only is fire in the womb needed for alchemical transformation, it is also a comforting presence. The Cave can otherwise feel cold and uninviting.
[Caves are warm and inviting, quiet and stable, which is why humans have retreated into them for ages. They provide safety, security, and refuge from outer chaos.]
What crystallized treasures are hidden here?
In the stillness, fire brings us into the present moment, now, directly reminding us of how our ancestors lit fires inside. The Cave connects us, and fire warms us to the bone.
Cave and fire take us on a trip to the center, into the primordial beginning.
Linda Pappa and her partner David recorded the following with love, using grounding frequencies and a shamanic drum. They invite listening to this meditation by first preparing a space and holding self as safely as possible. It runs deep.
May you be guided by the inner body of Earth and yours.
May you be warmed by your own Holy Fire.
May you be led to dance to the rhythm of your inner drum.
(Official Alan Watts Org) "Why Not Now" is a discussion from Alan Watts' Zen & Meditation collection. In it, he discusses how we need silence -- not mere absence of external sound but of the internal compulsive chattering of words and calculations inside our heads. Only by such silence can we get into firm touch with the real world which our languages, signs, symbols, and mathematics represent (somewhat crudely) but are not. Such silencing of head-chatter is known in the orient as yoga, dhyana (jhana, absorption), zen (chan, seon), or the art of meditation, in which we discover by direct experience who or what we really are -- by feeling rather than verbal definition. The reason is simply that too much chattering, not only in the head, but also in listening to radio, reading newspapers, watching TV, and interminable discussion of our various political, social, legal, philosophical, and psychological hangups has put us far out of touch with the real world, which isn't words. #alanwatts#alanwattsspeech#nonduality

DUE TO EXPECTED RAIN, WE'LL BE INDOORS THIS WEEK IN THE MONROE ROOM of the Monrovia Community Center, 119 W. Palm Ave.We will be candle gazing (trÄį¹aka).
This week we're indoors.
Local Park Ranger Tod, who trained at UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center or MARC, leads a secular Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) meditation.
The group is big, regularly reaching 19-24 participants each Monday. We gently stretch, do mindfulness of walking, then enter a guided meditation.
I can't gaze with mindfulness...or can I?
MBSR uses mindfulness (nonreactive open or focused consciousness) to approach anxious states and transform them into opportunities to grow in awareness, joy, acceptance, and happiness, with a sharing circle afterward.
Bring a shawl or blanket and an open spirit to sit with a heartfelt community nestled in LA's Foothills. FREE, no donations.
What did "Karen" imagine she was looking at us doing -- tripping on acid in the Sixties?
What has the world come to? We were meditating in the park, a group of 18 of us, as day turned into evening.
It's what we (Dharma Buddhist Meditation led by non-secular Ranger Tod inMonrovia) do every Monday in an exclusive neighborhood park nestled in the foothill suburbs of the great megalopolis that is Los Angeles.
The heat wave has settled, and a pleasant breeze blows into the bowl that is this secret park, as we sit in Concrete Zen Zero (Enso) gazing at the mountains of the Angeles National Forest above LA, near a secret waterfall (like the one at Eaton Canyon) that runs even in the height of the summer from the local watershed.
We stood, stretched, and walked mindfully, winding through the park then settled in for a guided meditation led by UCLA's MARC (Mindful Awareness Research Center)-trained Ranger Tod. Next week Ranger Eugene will be the special guest to explain the status of our former waterfall meditation stie that was hit by the climate chaos wildfires Southern California enjoys every year.
We sat in a circle of folding chairs and blankets, lulled and transfixed by meditation leader Tod, who spoke by analogy of a great mountain. Then it happened. A local Karen wandering through the park in the dark turned and could not ignore what she was seeing. "Is everything all right here?!" she blurted, disturbing our sacred peace.
No one moved. No one stirred. So she yelled again. A few heads turned to find the source of the disturbance. And there she was in all her jagged haircut, huskiness, and contorted face glory, staring in confusion.
Someone in the circle (Steve?) assured her we were. She didn't believe it but sucked it in and went on her way, no dog to walk, no reason to be out, except maybe to cure her busy-body-ness.
I would have said, "No, can you help us be better?" by inviting her to take a place in the suddenly sacred circle. But I was so serene I was in no mood to laugh or cause others to giggle in relief. We bore her concern. What could she have thought was going on? That the Kool-Aid was setting in and Tod was about to join the Rev. Jim Jones in infamy?
We resumed. But the during the sharing phase -- which can go on as long as participants like, each contributing a gem of wisdom mined in our arduous efforts to arrive, leave the day behind, and let go of worry -- Karen came up. Rachel remembered.
Why had Karen thought we were in need of her jarring interruption? Was she looking for trouble, challenging her peers to explain themselves? Peace reigned. But she did deepen the conversation by bringing contrast to how calm and serene we were when she spoke. In any case, Simmer down, Karen.
The park is hidden in a residential neighborhood on Grand Ave. in Monrovia in the foothills
Working with Emotions: 15-Min Guided Meditation to Release Suppressed Emotions
(The Mindful Movement) Take 15 minutes out of a busy day to relax and let go of any negative or difficult emotions that have been holding on. As the body unwinds, any emotional strain we have been carrying begs to be released.
Feelings we choose not to experience do not just disappear, but they are held in our physical being and can be manifested as unpleasant bodily symptoms. By releasing our suppressed emotions, we can alleviate the suffering within us.
Enjoy this 15-minute meditation to do just that.

Full Moon Guided Meditation August 2022 | Sturgeon Full Moon in Aquarius
(The Curious Yogi, Aug. 10, 2022) ♑️ This is a full moon guided meditation for August 2022. This month the moon is in Aquarius, and it is also the last supermoon of 2022. This guided meditation is nourishing and grounding, connecting us with our heart chakra.
A supermoon means that the emotional energy will be more intense than usual, due to the moon being in perigee: Its close proximity to the earth makes us feel the lunar potency more as the moon appears bigger and brighter. On August 11 at 6:36 pm PST, the sturgeon moon in Aquarius rises.
A full moon in Aquarius offers us the chance to see how the collective can rise up and implement radical change. The water-bearer (the symbol of Aquarius) is a humanitarian, as they’re always working hard to help others survive and thrive.
With the moon in humane and charitable Aquarius, we’ll want to do our best to help humankind. Being that it opposes the Leo sun, which is known for egotism and dramatic expressions of the heart, we will have to strive for a middle ground to balance out these juxtaposing energies.
In this meditation, we spend time with the heart energy and shining our inner light, connecting with our intuition. Listening to a call that’s always reverberating in our hearts and minds. There are desires and longings that seem overtly spiritual, longing for the sacred, the divine, the eternal, the infinite.
These emerge from a profound hunger in the self, a craving so great that it cannot be fulfilled by anything in ordinary life. Yet, it cries to be addressed. Let’s take this time to listen to the longing of our heart, a call for the divine.

WHO I AM:
I discovered meditation and truly fell in love with it in 2020 through the pandemic. I think meditation is about having an empty mind and staying still. If you ask my mother, she says that's not possible. But the more I study, the more I realize meditation is not about being still and serious. It's about being present, being conscious, and being open to what comes next, whatever it might be. Let's just welcome everything. I feel honored and humbled to share my practice.
My credentials: RYT 200-hr Vinayasa Yoga Teacher; currently a student of a 200-hour Instinctive Meditation.
