Man held in apparent assassination attempt criticized Trump. This is what we know
(CNN) Sept. 15, 2024: A 58-year-old [white, patriotic, felon in possession of a gun, MAGA-like, American volunteer in the US Proxy-War in Ukraine] man was "detained" Sunday in connection with an apparent assassination attempt on golfer Donald Trump in Florida. Suspect Ryan Wesley Routh is a self-employed affordable housing builder in Hawaii who went on social media to weigh in on politics and current events, at times criticizing the ex-president. Routh, whom authorities suspect was planning to attack the MAGA leader as he cheated at a round of golf, posted comments on an X (Twitter) account linked to him, referencing the assassination attempt on Trump at a July rally in Pennsylvania.
Routh tagged Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris, in separate posts, encouraging them to visit those injured at the rally. #Trump #CNN #News #CIA
BIGGEST American war crime cover-up of the Vietnam War
(A Day in History) Sept. 19, 2023: What happens when a group of young American soldiers are let loose in the wilderness with no oversight and a simple instruction: kill anything that moves?
"Tiger Force" is the answer, an elite recon group of the American War on Vietnam whose war crimes were covered up by the US government for decades.
This video looks at the atrocities committed by the men of Tiger Force as they descended into barbarity in the jungles of Vietnam and how the US government tried to hide it from the world.
Origins of Tiger Force
Tiger Force was a long-range reconnaissance patrol unit of the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division.
Like Hitler, we're just following the US example.
It was formed in Nov. 1965 by Major David Hackworth to, quote, “out-guerrilla the guerrillas.” He put it more frankly to another reporter. “I want 40 swinging dicks,” Hackworth had said, men who were free to use their own judgment, skill, and drive to conduct unrestrained warfare [war crime massacres] in the toughest areas of Vietnam to clear.
It usually numbered about 45 men at any one time, but people would rotate out every few months.
For example, 120 different men served in the Tiger Force between July and Dec. 1967.
Usually, Tiger Force would be dropped into an operational area and given effectively free reign to achieve their goal.
Military command maintained minimal oversight of their activities: So long as they racked up a body-count, the brass were happy.
Many soldiers embraced the freedom to kill and lack of bureaucracy that Tiger Force provided, but the absence of accountability or oversight would lead the men of Tiger Force down a dark path.
Arriving in Song Ve
Vietnam? Who cares? We've done worse.
The events that would enshrine them in the history books began to unfold in summer 1967 when the Tiger Force was sent into the Song Ve Valley.
The Song Ve Valley was an agricultural hotspot that was allegedly a hiding place for the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese Army (NVA).
Tiger Force was instructed to clear out remaining residents of the valley to a nearby refugee camp and then sweep the area for VC soldiers and food caches.
The valley was declared a "free-fire" area -- "shoot first, ask questions later." Civilian casualties were still unacceptable in theory, but enforcing that condition was a whole other matter.
The Buddha's encounter with darkness: the serial killer Aṅgulimāla
(Asangoham) The life of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha or the "Enlightened One," is full of stories.
They offer profound insights into the ethical (sila) teachings of Buddhism.
These stories, passed down through generations, serve as parables that elucidate the core principles of Buddhist thought, philosophy, and ethics.
Among these tales, the story of a serial killer in the Buddha's time named Angulimala [not a name but a title to remember him by like everyone else in Buddhism] stands out, not just for its dramatic elements but for its deep philosophical and ethical implications.
This narrative not only underscores the transformative power of compassion and understanding but also offers a unique lens through which we can explore and contrast Buddhist ethics with Western ethical systems.
Siddhartha Gautama: The Man Behind the Legend
Before we begin the tale of Angulimala, it's essential to understand the man who would become the Buddha.
Born into royalty, Siddhartha Gautama's life was one of luxury and privilege [in the land of Scythians].
However, a series of encounters with the harsh realities of life – old age, sickness, death, and wandering asceticism – led him to renounce his life as a prince to search for answers to the suffering inherent in human existence.
After years of meditation and rigorous ascetic practices, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, thereby becoming the Buddha, the "Awakened One."
His teachings, known as the Dharma (Dhamma), are packed into the Four Ennobling Truths and the Ennobling Eightfold Path [noble = enlightened]. These, as we shall see, lay the groundwork for Buddhist ethics.
The Buddha came to help him awaken.
[FURTHER EXPLANATION: The Buddha did not meet Angulimala by accident. The Buddha went to find Angulimala because on that day, being in need of the 1,000th finger for his trophy collection, which he had been gathering because of a jealous teacher from Taxila University who set him on this perilous course of killing to destroy his reputation, as he was brighter than his teachers, he was going to take the life of his mother. Had he done that, he would have been doomed, as it is one of the Five Heinous Deeds with immediate result in the very next rebirth. The Buddha, however, saw that Angulimala -- in spite of being a killer, who already had done so much harm -- was ripe for awakening. His past store of good karma made him ready for awakening, so long as he did not fall into the bad karma of the heinous deed he was heading toward. To save him, the Buddha put himself in danger by going through the woods where Angulimala hunted his victims. He used his spiritual powers to evade being killed, and to guide Angulimala away from his mother, who out of love had also entered the woods to try to reason with him, until he became frustrated as to why he could not catch up to the Buddha, who looked like an ordinary wandering ascetic in the forest. The Buddha was able to find Angulimala in the first place because it was his custom to wake up early in the morning and scan the world or at least his region for those he could help bring to enlightenment. He converted Angulimala to peace and brought him out of the woods. The king and his men wanted to seize him and put him to death, but the Buddha intervened, vouched for him, and said Angulimala would no longer harm anyone. He became a monk, but every time he went on alms round, people attacked him by throwing rocks and other things at him, bloodying him. The Buddha told him to persevere and never mind the sticks and stone. He was told he should constantly reflect on what was going to happen to him in the future when his karma ripened and how it would have trapped him if he had carried out the heinous deed of matricide he was on the verge of committing. This humbled Angulimala, who instead of becoming angry at those angry with him, radiated loving kindness, compassion, joy in their joy, and equanimity until he awakened in this very life, thereby sparing himself the doom of subhuman rebirths in accordance with his karma. What people should take away from this is that karma (stored up actions, deeds, need not of necessity come to fruition. We do not need to exhaust all previous karma before liberation, awakening, enlightenment. With just normal faculties as human beings we have the potential to realize the Truth and escape woeful states of rebirth inferior to the human world, which are wiped away at stream entry. There is no time to waste. The results of karma come upon us. What can be done must be done today, now, taking advantage of the existence of three remarkable treasures currently in the world that are almost never found in the world: a Buddha, the Dharma, and a Noble Sangha. So the question may arise, what will become of Angulimala's bad karma? The results will not be experienced by Angulimala in subsequent rebirths. Like seeds thrown on barren land, they will not come to fruit. This is the natural order of things, the miracle of the Dharma that leads to the end of karma, the end of ignorance, the end of rebirth, and the end of all suffering. If it could not do this, the Buddha would not have declared it as "awakening" and "nirvana." Other traditions that try to call their goal, their sunnum bonum, "nirvana" or "enlightenment" in a generic sense are very mistaken and should choose other terms because what the Buddha discovered and taught are radically different from Vedic Brahmanism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Christianity, for all their superficial similarities.]

A shock of pure terror came over me as I realized Halloween is just a few days away and I haven't decided what I'm going to be, a witch or Jeffrey Dahmer.
The censors at eBay are trying to ban "Jeffrey Dahmer" costumes online but Amazon doesn't care. Netflix isn't showing the gory scenes. It's enough to drive one into a coven.
I guess I'll have to go with witch, the most popular choice this year. With all those shows and all that's going on as the world falls apart in the mainstream media and utterly controlled news, I would think people would get a little more creative.
How about dressing up as Putin's hot wife or Zelenskyy's PR guy? How about a furry? What say a big pandemic virus? Maybe a globe on fire for the climate? I know, how about I get a big refrigerator box, draw on some drawers, glue a lamp and a magazine? I could be a nightstand, well, not a nightstand but a one nightstand.
Something sexy: A sexy nurse, a sexy boss, a sexy teacher, a sexy chambermaid, a sexy French maid, a sexy maid or maiden or damsel in distress... Ah, there are so many ways to be sexy.
Well, it's back to the kitchen. I know! I can Dinner at Dahmer's, my torso a spread, and all sorts of bloody bits on offer, eyeballs in spaghetti with blood sauce and finger snacks...
The Buddha Stories: The Power of Life (in the Life of the Buddha)
The calm and compassionate face of the Buddha is known the world over. He was a wise spiritual teacher from Scythia in proto-India (which only came into existence as a country or empire with the conquests of Buddhist Emperor Ashoka).
The Buddha's ideas on freeing devas and humankind from sorrow form the basis of Buddhism.
The Buddha was born in the sixth century BC., into a royal family [likely in Gandhara in modern Afghanistan (ranajitpal.com).
Known as Prince Siddhartha Gautama, he realized that life is full of happiness and disappointment. He rediscovered a path to enlightenment and fulfillment. He is then known as "the Buddha," which means the "Enlightened or Awakened One."
For 45 more years, the remainder of his life, he traveled great distances teaching devas and people the "Middle Path" that avoids the extremes of hedonism and extreme austerities as the way to end all suffering.
As part of this he taught the Four Noble (or Ennobling) Truths:
Things disappoint.
There is a cause of this disappointment.
There is an end of (all) suffering.
There is a Path to accomplish that.
Buddhism offers hope and access to spiritual understanding and satisfaction to everyone who will put these teachings into practice. Throughout the world today, people follow the Dharma of the Buddha.
Here the Buddha comes across a heartless serial killer on a spree. He confronts him and converts him to peace, eventually bringing him all the way to complete enlightenment.

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town; A Christmas Carol; Ven. Thanissaro (trans.)Angulimala Sutra-- The Serial Killer Turned Saint (MN 86) -- Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly If Angulimala ("Finger Garland") can kill more than a thousand people and still be redeemed in the same life, there may be hope for me, and there may even be hope for old Ebenezer Scrooge.
The Buddha was a supremely skillful teacher.
Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One [the Buddha] was staying near Savatthi at Jeta's Grove in the [Buddhist multi-millionaire] Anathapindika's monastery.
At that time in King Pasenadi's realm there was a serial killer named Angulimala ["Finger Garland"]: brutal, bloody-handed, given to serial killing, slaying, lacking mercy for living beings. He turned villages into non-villages, towns into non-towns, settled countryside into unsettled countryside.
Having killed human beings again and again, he wore their fingers (anguli) [like trophies but actually to keep count of his kills in] a garland (mala).
Then early in the morning, the Blessed One put on his robes and, carrying his outer cloak and bowl, went into Savatthi for alms. Having wandered for alms and returning from his round after his meal, he set his lodgings in order.
Carrying his robes and bowl, he went along the road to where Angulimala was staying. Cowherds, shepherds, and farmers saw him going along that road and seeing him said, "Don't go along that road, shaman [wandering ascetic]! That road is where Angulimala operates: brutal, bloody-handed, killing and slaying, merciless to living beings.
"He has turned villages into non-villages, towns into non-towns, settled countryside into unsettled countryside. Having repeatedly killed, he wears a garland of their fingers. Groups of 10, 20, 30, and 40 men have gone along that road, and they have fallen into Angulimala's hands."
When this was said, the Blessed One kept going along the road in silence.
A second and a third time they warned him: "Don't go along that road, shaman..." When this was said, the Blessed One kept going down that road in silence.
Amazing, astounding, look who's coming!
Then Angulimala saw the Blessed One coming from afar. And seeing him, it occurred to him: "Isn't it amazing? Isn't it astounding! Groups of 10, 20, 30, and 40 men have come down this road and have fallen into my hands. Yet, now this shaman comes to attack, as it were, alone, with no companion. Why not kill him?"
The Buddha meets Angulimala, a serial killer who murdered more than 1,000 people for the purpose of making an offering of 1,000 human fingers to his teacher. But he lost some to birds so he began wearing them around his neck. He first intended to make his mother his final victim then the Buddha intervened. Seeing the Buddha coming, he changed his mind. Angulimala changed his ways, became a Buddhist monk, and attained enlightenment not long afterwards. His mother is in the background. Savatthi, India.
So Angulimala, taking up his sword and shield, buckling on his bow and quiver, stealthily followed behind the Blessed One.
Then the Blessed One willed a feat of psychic power: The faster Angulimala went, running with all his might, he could not catch up with the Blessed One who was still walking at a normal pace.
Then the thought occurred to Angulimala: "Isn't it amazing? Isn't it astounding! In the past I've chased and seized even a running elephant, a running horse, a running deer, a speeding chariot. But now, even though I run with all my might, I can't catch up to this shaman who walks at a normal pace." So Angulimala stopped and called out to the Buddha: "Stop, shaman, stop!"
"I have stopped, Angulimala. You stop."
Then the thought occurred to Angulimala, "These Sakyan shamans [Scythian shramanas] are speakers of the truth, who assert the truths, yet this shaman, even while walking, says, 'I have stopped, Angulimala. You stop.' Why not question him?"
So the serial killer Angulimala addressed this verse to the Blessed One:
Shaman, what do you mean you stopped?
"While walking, shaman, you say, 'I have stopped.'
But when I have stopped, you say I have not.
I ask you the meaning of this:
How have you stopped? How have I not?"
[The Buddha replied:]
"I have stopped, Angulimala, once and for all,
having cast off violence toward all living beings.
You, however, are unrestrained toward beings.
That is how I have stopped and you have not."
[Angulimala:]
"At long last a great and widely revered seer
for my sake has come to this wide forest.
Having heard your verse in line with the Dharma [Truth],
I will go about having abandoned doing harm."
So saying, the serial killer hurled his sword
and weapons over a cliff into a chasm, a deep pit.
Then he paid homage at the feet of the Welcome One,
and then and there requested the going-forth.
The Enlightened One, the great compassionate seer,
teacher of the world, along with its devas, said to him:
"Come, monastic." That in itself was ordination for him.
Then the Blessed One set off wandering toward Savatthi with Ven. Angulimala [now a Buddhist monk] as his attendant. After wandering by stages they reached Savatthi, and there Ven. Angulimala lived, near Savatthi, in Jeta's Grove, in the multi-millionaire Anathapindika's monastery.
Now at that time there gathered a large crowd of people, loud and noisy, at the gates of King Pasenadi Kosala's inner palace [calling out:] "There is a serial killer in your realm, sire, named Angulimala: brutal, bloody-handed, killing and slaying, lacking mercy for living beings.
"He has turned villages into non-villages, towns into non-towns, settled countryside into unsettled countryside. Having repeatedly killed humans, he wears a garland of fingers. The king must stamp him out!"
Then King Pasenadi Kosala, with a cavalry of 500 [meaning "a large number" of] horsemen, drove out of Savatthi and entered the monastery. Driving as far as the ground was passable for chariots, he got down from his chariot and went by foot to the Blessed One. On arriving, he bowed, and respectfully sat to one side.
As he was sitting there, the Blessed One said to him: "What is it, great king? Has King Seniya Bimbisara of Magadha provoked you, or have the Licchavis of Vesali, or has some other hostile king?"
"No, venerable sir. There is a serial killer in my realm, venerable sir, one named Angulimala: brutal, bloody-handed, killing and slaying, lacking mercy for living beings. He has turned villages into non-villages, towns into non-towns, settled countryside into unsettled countryside. Having repeatedly killed human beings, he wears a garland made of fingers. I am going to stamp him out." [1]
1: The Pali Text Society version here reads, followed in The Middle Length Sayings and The Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha -- "I will not stamp him out," which is surely a mistake. This version follows the Thai for this passage, even if it is somewhat ungrammatical. There are passages in MN 90 where King Pasenadi's sentences do not quite parse, and perhaps this is another example of his brusque language.
"Great king, suppose you were to see Angulimala with his hair and beard shaved off, wearing the saffron robe [of a wandering ascetic, a shramana, a Buddhist monastic], having gone forth from the home life into the left-home life, abstaining from killing living beings, abstaining from taking what is not given, abstaining from false speech, living the high life [of voluntary celibacy] on only one meal a day, virtuous and of fine character, what would you do to him?"
"We would bow down to him respectfully, venerable sir, or rise up to greet him, or offer him a seat, or offer him robes, alms food, lodgings, or medicinal requisites for curing illness. Or we would arrange a lawful guard, protection, and defense. But how could there be such virtue and restraint in an unvirtuous, harmful character?"
Now at that time Ven. Angulimala was sitting not far from the Blessed One. So the Blessed One, pointing with his right arm, said to King Pasenadi Kosala: "That, great king, is Angulimala."
Then King Pasenadi Kosala was frightened, terrified, and his hair stood on end. So the Blessed One, sensing the king's fear and hair-raising apprehension, said to him: "Be not afraid, great king, be not afraid. He is no danger to you."
Then the king's fear, terror, hair-standing-on-end subsided. He went over to Ven. Angulimala and said: "Are you really Angulimala, venerable sir?"
"Yes, great king."
"What is your father's clan? What is your mother's clan?"
"My father is a Gagga, great king, and my mother a Mantani."
"Then may Master Gagga Mantaniputta delight [in staying here]. I will be responsible for your robes, alms food, lodgings, and medicinal requisites."
Now it so happened that at that time Ven. Angulimala was a forest-dweller, an alms-goer, wearing one set of the triple robe made of cast-off cloth [some of the "13 sane ascetic practices" or dhutangas the Buddha allowed for the overcoming of certain defilements]. So he said to King Pasenadi Kosala: "Enough, great king. My triple robe is complete."
So King Pasenadi Kosala went to the Blessed One and, having bowed down, sat respectfully to one side. Sitting there he said to the Blessed One: "It is amazing, venerable sir! It is astounding how the Blessed One has tamed the untamed, pacified the agitated, brought to nirvana [peace] those who were not free.
"For what we could not tame even with blunt force or blade the Blessed One has tamed without blunt or sharp weapons. Now, venerable sir, we must go. Many are our duties, many our responsibilities."
"Great king, do as you see fit at this time."
Then King Pasenadi Kosala got up from his seat, bowed to the Blessed One and, respectfully keeping him to his right, departed.
Ven. Angulimala, early in the morning, having put on his robes and carrying his outer robe and bowl, went into Savatthi for alms. As he was going from house to house for alms, he saw a woman suffering a breech birth. On seeing her, the thought occurred to him: "How tormented living beings are, how tormented living beings are!"
Then having wandered for alms in Savatthi and returning after his meal, he went to the Blessed One. On arriving, he bowed and sat respectfully to one side. Sitting there he said: "Just now, venerable sir, I went into Savatthi for alms. As I was going from house to house, I saw a woman suffering a breech birth. On seeing her, the thought occurred to me: 'How tormented living beings are, how tormented living beings are!'"
"In that case, Angulimala, go to that woman and when you arrive, say to her: 'Sister, since I was born I do not recall intentionally killing a living being. Through this truth may there be wellbeing for you, wellbeing for your child.'"
"But, venerable sir, wouldn't that be a lie for me? For I have intentionally killed many living beings."
"Then in that case, Angulimala, go to that woman and when you arrive, say to her: 'Sister, since I was born in the noble birth [glimpsed nirvana, saw the Path, reached the initial stage of enlightenment, gotrabhu, having experienced a "change of lineage" from ordinary uninstructed worldling to a noble disciple who has entered at a minimum the stage of stream entry, or progressed further along], I do not recall intentionally killing a living being. Through this truth may there be wellbeing for you, wellbeing for your child.'" [2]
2: This blessing is often chanted to bless homes in Theravada Buddhist countries.
Responding, "As you say, venerable sir" to the Blessed One, Angulimala went to that woman and when he arrived, he said to her: "Sister, since I was born in the noble birth, I do not recall intentionally killing a living being. Through this may there be wellbeing for you, wellbeing for your child." And there was wellbeing for that woman, wellbeing for her child.
Then Ven. Angulimala, dwelling alone [to meditate intensively], secluded, heedful, ardent, and resolute, in no long time reached and remained in the supreme goal of the high life for which persons of good family rightly go forth from home into the left-home life, knowing and realizing [the ultimate truth] for himself here and now.
He knew: "Rebirth is ended, the high life fulfilled, the task done. What had to be done has been done and there is nothing further to be done in the world." Thus Ven. Angulimala became another one of the enlightened ones [arhats, "saints"].
Then early in the morning Ven. Angulimala, having put on his robes and carrying his outer cloak and bowl, went into Savatthi for alms. Now at that time a clod thrown by one person hit Ven. Angulimala, and a stone thrown by another person hit him, and a shard from a pot thrown by still another person hit him.
So Ven. Angulimala -- his skin broken open and dripping blood from his head, his [ceramic] bowl broken, and his outer robe shredded -- went to the Blessed One.
The Blessed One saw him coming from afar, and on seeing him said to him: "Bear it, Brahmin, bear it! The fruit of the karma that would have burned you in perdition [niraya] for many years, many hundreds of years, many thousands of years, you are now experiencing here and now!" [3]
3: This incident illustrates the karmic principle stated in AN 3.99.
Then Ven. Angulimala went alone into seclusion [the bliss of meditation, jhana] and experienced the bliss of release [nirvana], and he exclaimed:
Who once was heedless [4] but later not
Brightens the world like moon set free from clouds.
His ill-done deed [5] is replaced with skill:
He brightens the world like moon set free from clouds.
Whatever young ascetic devotes himself to the Buddha's advice,
He brightens the world like moon set free from clouds.
May even my adversaries hear talk of the Dharma.
May even my adversaries apply themselves to the Buddha's advice.
May even my adversaries associate with those who --
Peaceful and good -- get others to accept the Dharma.
May even my adversaries hear the Dharma time and again
From those who advise persistence, forgiveness,
Who praise non-opposition, and may they follow it.
For surely one would not harm me nor anyone else;
One would attain foremost peace [nirvana],
Would protect the feeble and the firm.
Irrigators guide the water. [6]
Fletchers fashion the arrow shaft.
Carpenters shape the wood.
The wise control themselves.
Some tame with a blunt stick, with hooks, with whips.
But without blunt weapon or blade I was tamed
By the one who is such.
"Doer of No Harm" is my name, but I used to be a doer of harm.
Today I am true to my name, for I harm no one at all.
A serial killer I used to be, renowned as "Angulimala."
Swept along by a great flood, I went to the Buddha as guide.
Bloody-handed I used to be, renowned as "Angulimala."
See my going for guidance! Uprooted is [craving],
The cause of endless becoming [cycling in samsara].
Having done the type of karma that would lead to many bad destinations,
Touched by the fruit of [that] karma, free of debts, I eat my food. [7]
They are addicted to heedlessness [8] -- dullards, foolish --
while one who is wise cherishes heedfulness as one's highest wealth.
Do not give in to heedlessness [9] or to intimacy with sensual delight --
