(Irrawaddy) Family members of Burmese working and living in Japan said they are worried for their relatives after hearing the news of an 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit a Pacific fault line off the northeast coast of Japan. Tokyo and much of the country has been severely affected, and a tsunami with waves as high as 10 meters has destroyed coastal buildings, vehicles and bridges. Other Pacific Rim countries were put on high alert. Early reports said that at least 40 people had been killed, but that figure was expected to rise exponentially. More>>
