Dr. Sonia Angell and her boss Gov. Gavin Newsom; Wisdom Quarterly EDITORIAL
Gov. Gav appoints medical angel Dr. Sonia Angell to sugarcoat bitter measures for them to go down.
There are generally two kinds of fascism -- which Dictator Mussolini of the Kingdom of Italy, as it was called, defined as the combining of corporate and government power.
The first is the scary Orwellian totalitarian model of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, the second Aldous Huxley's Brave New World being the more seductive and hedonistic model.
In either case, the National Guard is called out with truncheons and guns at the ready. The imperial Roman Church approves. But in the Brave New World model, there is no need to go right for direct coercion, which leads to a lot of resistance.
Everyone fears and fights that "Big Brother" approach, if only by dragging their feet when given orders. But how would Californians be able to resist or even think to resist soft power, economic pressure, indirect control, mass surveillance and the newest euphemism for it in "contact tracing"? No one even thinks to question it.
Is it just us, or are presidential-wannabe Gov. Gavin Newsom and upwardly mobile L.A. Mayor Garcetti bending too far to be PC and hipper-than-thou, one in his breathless daily briefings with veiled threats and the other with his "cool hippy love" rhetoric incentivizing "snitches"? Read the two novels and it becomes very clear.
It's probably better, though harder, to have a vulgar liar like Trump and his ultra-nationalism declaring authoritarian powers from a centralized federal government in the White House.
