IrishCentral.com says for a diaspora, the States are a right near perfect place to end up. After all, the Irish may have discovered America (apart from Buddhist missionaries from China and Afghanistan, according to Edward P. Vining's An Inglorious Columbus), Vikings, and aborigines from Australia (50,000 years back), the ancient Egyptians (in the Grand Canyon), and others. There really was a Catholic priest who made the voyage and apparently made contact with the local Indigenous tribes, establishing a county system they then used until conquest by greedy British, Spanish, and European colonialists took over.
