Network late-night talk shows became unprofitable in 2023. Brand advertising expenditures on late-night television in 2024 fell to half the 2018 level.
“In 2015, the typical 11:30 pm talk show brought in well over $200 million in revenue and made a healthy profit.”
“By 2023, the same show was underwater, and by 2025, losses are well into the tens of millions of dollars.”
To make matters worse, cost-cutting efforts by late-night shows haven’t been able to make up for increased costs, such as salaries. And episodes of late-night talk shows don’t age well, so they have virtually no market for rerun syndication. More

An independent autopsy released Monday also shows 26-year-old Tortuguita ("Little Tortoise/Turtle") was likely seated cross-legged when shot to death.
Tortuguita's family on Friday sued the city of Atlanta after the release of more video evidence of the police crime and conspiracy to conceal the illegal shooting was blocked.
"There's no reason to withhold this evidence. The public deserves to know. More importantly, the family deserves to know," says civil rights attorney Jeff Filipovits, who is representing the family.
He adds that even if law enforcement claims that Tortuguita may have fired on officers, there is no evidence of any such accusations.

Federal death sentence starts again at 4 PM

Terre Haute, Indiana — The federal government is planning to carry out the first federal execution in nearly two decades on Monday, over the objection of the family of the victims and after a volley of legal proceedings over the coronavirus pandemic.
Daniel Lewis Lee, of Yukon, Oklahoma, is scheduled to [be executed by the federal government] by lethal injection at 4:00 pm on Monday at a federal prison in Indiana.
He was convicted in Arkansas of the 1996 killings of gun dealer William Mueller, his wife, Nancy, and her 8-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell.
The execution, the first of a federal death row inmate since 2003, comes after a federal appeals court lifted an injunction on Sunday.
It had been put in place last week after the victims' family argued they would be put at high risk for coronavirus if they had to travel to attend the execution. The family had vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court. More

| Why would we approve if we don't kill? |
We oppose killing, particularly by the government in our name. It is collective bad karma to call for or applaud such a thing, a form of which is remaining silent. Silence is consent. The first precept is to abstain from taking the lives of living beings, a part of which is abstaining from encouraging others to kill. If we encourage or approve of such a thing, we are complicit in that karma. Stand against killing, against murder, against revenge, against executions, which have been shown to not prevent killing. It only coarsens us like a police state. Very few countries do such things, all of them more brutal than we imagine ourselves, as we imprison, torment, and warehouse more citizens than any other place in the world. We can do better.
