Speaking at a surprise gig in London last night (May 24, 2025), [Irish Gaelic outlaw rappers] Kneecap claimed that the terror[ism] charge against one of their members is part of a “witch-hunt” intended to stop them from playing at Glastonbury.

Yesterday, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, 27, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence [terrorism offense] after allegedly waving the flag of Hezbollah onstage at a gig last November.

Hezbollah is a proscribed group in the UK, meaning it is illegal to “invite support” for them.

Oldest Native American footage ever

(Yestervid) Oct. 28, 2015: This is a rare, amazing, and heartfelt tribute to Native American tribes. This footage dates back to 1895 or 1894, with rare vintage audio recording of American Indian music.

This is forgotten American history and includes the oldest known clip of Native Americans on film, a clip of Sioux tribe members performing the "Buffalo Dance" at Thomas Edison's Black Maria Studio in New Jersey.

The "Ghost Dance" film was created on the same day, September 24, 1895. Other films featured include Hopi tribe members greeting TR and clips from the Chicago World's Fair of 1933.

It shows three Native American feature films: White Fawn's Devotion, The Invaders, and Last of the Mohicans. White Fawn's Devotion was the earliest film directed by a Native American, whose name was James Young Deer.

The old audio clip was recorded in 1895 by Alice Cunningham and Francis La Flesche. The dance song is "He'dewachi," and it is traditionally played at ceremonies that celebrate warriors.

Democrats are laying the groundwork for Joe Biden to make a “dignified” exit from the presidential race. Following his disastrous performance and loss to Old Donald Trump during Thursday night’s debate, members of the Biden family gathered in Camp David, the president’s country retreat, where they are expected to discuss his lack of a future.

Where am I? How did I get here?

One Democrat official said the US president could not [get off stage on his own and could not] be “dragged off stage” but needed relatives and trusted advisers to convince him to “walk off” on his own terms.

Senior Democrats and friends of GI Biden pushed for this conversation to happen over the weekend. However, his family are said to have urged him to stay in the race when they met on Sunday, while expressing frustration with aides who prepped him for the debate.

Mr. Biden was expected to spend Sunday and Monday surrounded by members of his immediate family, including Dr. Jill Biden, the first lady, and their granddaughters, [his presumed incestuous lover] Finnegan Biden and [potential love candidate] Natalie Biden [eating pizza or doing who knows what old men with lots of power do to young relatives who need their inheritance].

Among those pushing Mr. Biden to keep fighting is his son, corrupt convicted felon Hunter Biden [who has nepotism to thank for his riches], who wants to repair [his trouble with the court and] the damage done to his reputation by Thursday’s debate, the New York Times reported.

A Biden campaign source downplayed the significance of the gathering, insisting the stay had been planned some time in advance, adding that discussions about his [exit or likely-to-fail] re-election bid would be “informal or an afterthought.”

However, Mr. Biden has previously said he would not run a political campaign without the support of his family [which leaves him a good out; after all, where would he be without his enablers?]

“We do everything by family meetings,” he said in 2019. [We like to keep everything within the family -- money, power, sex, everything].

The 81-year-old [dotard and] president repeatedly mumbled, veered off topic and froze while speaking in front of an estimated 50 million viewers during the first showdown between Mr. Biden and Trump hosted by CNN on Thursday.

Let's go on a Mushroom Hunt, Ethnobotanical Nature Walk, Forest Meditation: Saturday, Feb. 24, 10:00 am-12:00 pm ($25.00).

This walkabout focuses on identifying wild medicinal mushrooms and plants and includes discussion of the therapeutic, shamanic, entheogenic, hallucinogenic, and psychedelic uses of plants that offer alternative treatments.

The native and non-native plants in our local environment have many surprising uses.

This leisurely stroll with guided meditation offers a chance to see and identify various mushrooms in this gloriously wet period. The weather has the mycelium running and fruiting bodies emerging from the ground, like we learned at last week's Wild Mushroom Fair at the LA Arboretum.

The South Coast Botanic Garden, the “Jewel of the Peninsula,” is located on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula on the coastal tip of Los Angeles.

Oscar-nominated film profiles two brothers who save fallen birds of prey

The story of two bird-saving brothers in India gets an Oscar nomination and an HBO premiere (Feb. 7th, 2023).

Wildlife Rescue is a clinic run by brothers Nadeem Shehzad and Muhammad Saud in Delhi, India, for injured black kites. Over the past 12 years, they've treated nearly 26,000 of the flying raptors. The brothers are featured in a new prize-winning documentary, All That Breathes, which was just nominated for an Oscar and is premiering on HBO on Feb. 7th.

Shaunak Sen was stuck in a traffic jam one evening in 2018 when he looked up at the hazy, polluted skies of Delhi and saw dozens of raptors, birds with brown feathers, gracefully circling overhead.

Then one bird just dropped to the ground in mid-flight. "After I went back home, I had to Google it," Sen says. "What happens to birds that fall out of the sky in Delhi?"

The answer led him to two Muslim brothers — Nadeem Shehzad and Muhammad Saud — who would soon become the subjects of his award-winning documentary, All That Breathes.

Shot over a period of three years from 2019, the documentary last year won both the Golden Eye Award for top documentary at Cannes and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. And now it's been nominated for an Oscar for best documentary feature film — only the second Indian film nominated in that category after Writing with Fire in 2021.

The film tells of the brothers' lifelong struggle to save an unusual bird — the meat-eating black kites that have made the smog-ridden Delhi skies their home...

The capital of India is filthy

Ahimsa (nonharming) is key to Jainism.

"Birds are plummeting from the sky. Delhi is a gaping wound, and we're a tiny Band-Aid on it," says Nadeem, a wildlife rehabilitator and the elder of the brothers.

"The scraps from slaughterhouses and meat-processing plants are dumped in Delhi. This, and the huge amounts of garbage that pile up every day, attracts hundreds of these scavenging birds.

They come from Russia, the steppes of Afghanistan, and Mongolia." The brothers were particularly drawn to the black kite, Nadeem says, when they found an injured bird as kids but couldn't get treatment for it.

In 1995, a bird hospital run by the Jain community (see Jainism) nearby turned it away because it is "a non-vegetarian bird," says Saud, the younger brother.

Jains, whose central tenet is non-violence (ahimsa), are staunch vegetarians. Their vegetarian hospital didn't have the capacity to provide the birds with their primary diet of murdered animal flesh.

Most people tend to misunderstand raptors, Saud explains: They think of black kites as vicious hunters. But they are also scavengers — very helpful with cleaning the mountains of garbage that pile up in Delhi, he says. More

We gathered in Hahamongna, the ancient meeting place of the local Native Americans, variously known as the Tongva, Kizh, or Gabrielinos.

Under a rising sun and streaming persistent chemical trails -- like cobwebs strewn across the sky -- we defined mushrooms as the "fruiting bodies" of mycelium, the magic underground filament structures that build forests, nourish trees, breakdown woodland debris, and make available the minerals and elements necessary for chlorophyll-based organisms, the flowers, baby greens, and grasses in bloom all around us.

Armed only with knowledge, the peaceful troupe proceeded into the woods. There we met the polypore on the side of logs, matted mycelium in the mulch, purple blewits, whitish russala, black inkcaps, a reishi-lookalike, and LBMs.

Above all the action are the fruiting bodies sending out spores to further the mycelium.

Below every mushroom (fruiting body) is the mycelium (root-like filament structures)

The sacred "fruit" of Judeo-Christianity

The local acorns littered the path, and found European stinging nettle crowding out the chickweed at the base of the ancient oaks in the grove, where the mycelium was delivering nutrients. We meditated with blewits in hand, spotted turkey tail shelf mushrooms hiding behind a spreading vine, met the sacred datura (moonflower), California sagebrush, white sage, castor bean and other invasives, toyon berries, black sage, coyote bush, coast live oak, pine needles bursting with Vitamin C, saw bunnies, ducks, fish, quail, squirrels, as P-22 (Los Angeles' own mascot puma/mountain lion for the last ten years) was being eulogized at the Greek Theater in Griffith Park, simulcast live on Pasadena City College's local NPR affiliate (scpr.org).

It made me love Nature again.

We ended with hugs and handshakes, Native American and Buddhist wisdom delivered appropriate to opening up to our lives, to our senses, and mindful in our approach to issues arising in the gray asphalt world we came from and were returning to.

But for a time, we were green devis and devas, unseen woodland fairies frolicking as we learned that Scandinavian Santa Claus, Sami shamans, and Easter egg hunts are all based on mushroom lore. We’ll venture into the arroyo through weeping willows and derelict waterways to see the greening flora of a sunny California winter. We'll explore the spiritual and medicinal dimension of mushrooms.

We're in search of specimens, wild foods of the Tongva, and the riparian plants of Tongavaar (as the Native Americans called Los Angeles).

During this mushroom hunt and nature walk, we’ll learn about the amazing things that grow and the many uses of what we find -- oaks (acorns), sages, blewits, tree oysters, nettles, mulefat, mugwort, horehound, willow, mallow, and so on.

Plant medicine is the best medicine (Psy Sangha)

There are many plants, which we may or may not see, depending on conditions. We are sure to see many wild edibles that sprout at this time of year when it’s wet alongside mushrooms sprouting chaotic from their beds.

Cooking/preparation tips of the edibles we find will be discussed. (Not all beautiful things are edible). There are always lots of surprises.
