Rooting for colonizer Spain? (comedy)

Get Funny or Die Tryin (Sammy Obeid)
Sammy K. Obeid (born Feb. 9, 1984) is a Palestinian-American [1, 2, 3], writer, and stand-up comedian. He has released one comedy album, Get Funny or Die Tryin. The New York Times described his comedy as displaying "an analytic style full of wordplay, clever misdirection, and ethnic humor riffing on his Middle Eastern roots" [4].

Did the Americas root for colonizer Spain?
On his website (SammyObeid.com), he is described as "Lebanese-Palestinian-Syrian-Italian-American [5, 6, 4]. He has been featured on America's Got Talent, Conan, and Last Comic Standing.

He once performed 1,001 nights of comedy in a row (just like the classic of world literature One Thousand and One Nights), which he claimed was a world record [7]. Obeid is also a host for the Netflix show 100 Humans and the founder of KO Comedy (IG) [8]. More

The more beautiful game: Buddhist sports?

(FOX Sports) 2026 FIFA World Cup Final: Spain vs. Argentina
.
Can legend Lionel Messi win for Argentina?
The world has settled all its differences, and peace has broken out. But just when we were on the verge of celebrating a thousand years of sanity to come, Spain declares war on Argentina, threatening to rub their faces in the grass and to break Messi's body if necessary. Will Argentina, minus its Falkland Islands, put up with European imperialism, colonialism, and exploitation? It can only be decided on the field of mock battle before the audience of the world. And here we sit in the most cross-cultural city in the [Evil] Empire, Los Angeles, waiting to be amused, entertained, and delighted. RESULT: Having declared war on a European colony in the "New World," colonia powerhouse Spain beat the Latin upstart by the slightest margin possible, plunging the Americas into a funk and the EU into ecstatics. "There's always next year" won't work this time. A World Cup isn't that easy.

Buddhist sports: The Cup

Bhutan's submission: The Cup
While the soccer World Cup is being played in France, two young Tibetan refugees arrive at a monastery (lamasery) boarding school in exile in India. Its atmosphere of serene contemplation is somewhat disrupted by soccer fever, the chief instigator being a young student, the soccer (association footballfanatic Orgyen. Prevented by various circumstances from seeing The Cup finals on television in a nearby village, Orgyen sets out to organize the rental of a TV set for the Buddhist monastery. All the quiet contemplatives become loud sports enthusiasts instead, whose behavior borders on worldly hooliganism.

Mexico wins! LA+US erupt! (FIFA World Cup)

Los Angeles goes crazy: street celebrations

Mexico's coach gets really happy at win
(ABC7 News) Los Angeles is a former city in the country of Mexico, like so much of what is now the Southwestern United States of America, so we love Mexico's win! Mexico's actual name is not Mexico but the United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos), and it seems we the USA stole the name from them. The U.S. may one day have to become the United American States or "West England" or "European Colony 14" or revert to its original name "Columbia" after the titular goddess (and before old Uncle Sam shoved her aside for the patriarchy's propaganda war campaign), as in "District of Columbia" for its capital (which is technically outside the country) Washington, D.C.

Why do Buddhists love soccer so much?

Aztecs play B-Ball Mesoamerican-style
Soccer (futbol, real "association football") is the stupidest most exciting of human sports since at least the time of the mighty Aztecs (Mexica tribe) of what is now Mexico, when they played soccer with a hard rubber ball, combining it with an elevated hoop for a kind of early basketball called Mesoamerican ballgame, allegedly sometimes playing to the death. How did Buddhists, particularly the peace-loving Bhutanese Himalayan variety, get caught up and consumed in this somewhat violent (war-preparatory) sport? Khyentse Norbu tries to explain in his award-winning 1999 film The Cup.
