LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — One of the strongest hurricanes ever to strike the U.S., "Laura" barreled across Louisiana on Thursday, shearing off roofs and killing at least six people while carving a destructive path hundreds of miles inland.
A full assessment of the damage wrought by the Category 4 system will likely take days, and the threat of additional damage looms as new tornado warnings were issued after dark in Arkansas and Mississippi even as the storm weakened into a tropical depression.
But despite a trail of demolished buildings, entire neighborhoods left in ruins, and almost 900,000 homes and businesses without power, a sense of relief prevailed that Laura was not the annihilating menace forecasters had feared.
“It is clear that we did not sustain and suffer the absolute, catastrophic damage that we thought was likely," Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said. “But we have sustained a tremendous amount of damage."
He called Laura the most powerful hurricane to strike Louisiana, meaning it surpassed even Katrina, which was a Category 3 storm when it hit in 2005. The storm toppled trees and damaged structures as far north as central Arkansas.

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Shortly after the only Native American man on federal death row was deprived of breath, his tribe blasted the federal government and accused it of violating the spirit of a law that allows tribes to decide whether to subject their citizens to the death penalty, which gets called capital punishment to soften what it is.
(Aug. 28, 2020) Lezmond Mitchell, 38, was executed Wednesday [Aug. 26] at a federal prison in Indiana where he was imprisoned.
The Navajo Nation had asked Pres. Trump to reduce Mitchell's sentence to life in prison. As the state execution neared, Trump took no action, and White courts declined to intervene.
The Navajo Nation said the situation highlights the need to restore tribes' ability to determine criminal justice matters on tribal lands, especially when it concerns Native victims and Native perpetrators.
Jurisdiction now falls to a mix of agencies, including a tribe, that respond depending on the exact location of the crime and who is involved.

“We’re all realizing right now, it’s not enough to try and fix this little piece of the patchwork of justice in Indian Country,” said Navajo Nation Council Delegate Carl Slater.

Ever notice that Native Americans, when covered, are only covered for annoying and negative reasons? It's no accident. It's editorial policy. What about the good news? Who cares. We are all led to believe there is no good news. There are no climate saving activities, there are no peaceful gatherings of tribes (powwows), there are no indigenous spiritual activities, there is no return to native ways overcoming the theft of children, language, cultural practices, prophecies, or delicious foods. These things exist, but the federal government is still on an eradication campaign, coming at native from all sides. Know that there is much positive that's ignored.

Accused fraudster Shaun King is threatening to name innocent cops as Jacob Blake’s shooter if the Kenosha Police Department doesn’t release the identity of the officer who did, [according to allegedly biased reporter].
“If you do not name the officer who brutally shot Jacob Blake on Sunday, we will simply begin naming officers from your department who may or may not be him,” the pro-police-reform Black Lives Matter activist threatened online.
“F–k it. Your protection of his identity is unethical. What’s his name?” King wrote in a message “to the Kenosha Police Department” that he pinned to the top of his Twitter thread.
The Brooklyn-based King later tweeted the names of two Kenosha officers.
In one case, he named an officer, saying “people thought he shot Jacob Blake.” In the other, he asked followers to compare photos of a named officer and an unnamed cop on the scene of the shooting.

Calls went out hours before 17-year-old racist Kyle Rittenhouse shot two people to death and wounded a third during a third night of uprising in the Wisconsin city.
(Aug. 27, 2020) Multiple threads on Facebook and Reddit have urged militias and other armed White people to head to the demonstrations, researchers at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Lab said in a blog post Wednesday.
The peaceful demonstrations broke out after Officer attempted to murder Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man. Blake was left a paraplegic Sunday, when he was shot seven times in the back by officers answering a senseless "domestic dispute" call (between two females, which Blake was attempting to calm).
Now, two Black people were killed by gunfire Tuesday night. Accused murderer Kyle Rittenhouse, a White 17-year-old from nearby Antioch, Illinois, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide.
A video director for the conservative website The Daily Caller tweeted Wednesday that he had conducted a video interview with the vigilante and suspected gunman before the shooting and posted a clip in which the armed young man, standing in front of a boarded-up building, said: “Our job is to protect this [capitalist] business.”
“And part of my job is to also help people [by shooting and/or killing other people]," he said. "If there is somebody hurt, I’m running into harm’s way [to do some hurting]. That’s why I have my rifle -- because I can protect myself, obviously. But I also have my med kit.”

The Atlantic Council researchers said that before the attack some of the online discussions encouraged acts of violence, while the Alex Jones conspiracy website InfoWars amplified the call to arms, potentially encouraging more armed people to head to Kenosha.
In Wisconsin, people 18 and over can legally openly carry a gun without a permit.
Facebook confirmed Wednesday that it took down a page called Kenosha Guard for violating its policy against militia organizations.
The company said it also is in the process of removing other accounts and material tied to the shootings that violate its policies, such as for glorifying violence, and it is in contact with local and federal law enforcement on the matter.More

What is the world coming to? Americans in North America keep making money because disaster capitalism is profitable, whatever the price. Our one-party system, the Money Rules Party, assures it. There is no political organization to advocate for We The People or for us to support.
