That mission is to foster mindful awareness across the lifespan through education and research to promote well-being and a more compassionate society.
Mindful awareness (mindfulness) is defined as "paying attention to present-moment experiences with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with what is."
[Wisdom Quarterly: Emphasis in mindfulness (sati) is on radical acceptance of whatever is in the present moment, rather than leaving, judging, struggling, evaluating, or needing to fix or change it. In doing so, one avoids the habits of clinging to the pleasant, rejecting/fearing the unpleasant, or checking out when anything seems neutral, confusing, or boring. "Be here now."
