Sutra Study with Bhikkhu Bodhi (8/8)

Teacher: American scholar monk Bhikkhu Bodhi
Dharma students, on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, Bhante (Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi) will be holding his Sutta Study class in two modes, in-person (in NY) and online (on Zoom).

We will study The Book of Eights. See a PDF of this chapter here. To participate through Zoom, interested parties must register on the BAUS website here.

Class begins at 9:30 am ET with a 40-minute meditation: 30 minutes of mindfulness-of-breathing (ana-pana-sati) and 10 minutes of cultivating loving-kindness (metta bhavana).

Meditation is followed by sutta (discourse) discussion, starting at 10:10 am and running until 11:20 am ET. To determine the time in your own time zone from anywhere in the world, use The World Clock. (Zoom link below).

  • 10:10 to 11:20 am: Sutta Study

Virtual meditation over Zoom

Wednesdays 7:00–8:00 pm (ET) with Bhikkhu Bodhi
Dharma students are invited to join Bhante at 7:00 pm (ET) for a Buddhist meditation session over Zoom by clicking here.

Each Wednesday evening, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Bhikkhu Bodhi leads a meditation session on Zoom. The session consists of a 15-minute vandana (chanting verses of homage as Buddhist music), followed by a 45-minute guided meditation. All are welcome to join in. The sacred Pali texts for recitation are attached separately. Please see class page on website for chanting text.

New Year, New Mind: Cultural Reset (2/8)

BAUS is having an important New Year event (NEW YEAR, NEW MIND) at Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel, Upstate New York. This is the home of our beloved venerable Theravada Buddhist scholar-monk teacher Bhikkhu Bodhi. It will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026.

This cultural reset helps welcome in the Chinese (Lunar) New Year observed by most of Asia and nearly all Buddhist communities, ushering in the Year of the Horse2026 Lunar New Year.

CYM has completed the first semester of the course Ancient Path, Modern Mind: Chinese Buddhism in a Changing World with Ven. You Min.

The Temple is pleased to announce that the second semester will begin in 2026, with the opportunity to explore three core themes under the guidance of Ven. You Min:
New Year, New Mind-Abbot Youmin
  1. the foundational sutras and treatises that shaped Chinese [Mahayana] Buddhism
  2. ⁠the cycle of Buddhist festivals and their rituals
  3. ⁠the lived life of the monastic order in relation to society.

Meditation Retreat Opportunities (NY)



There will be two retreats at Chuang Yen Monastery (CYM) in English and another in Connecticut. Home of BAUS (the Buddhist Association of the United States in Carmel, upstate New York), CYM sponsors Bhikkhu Bodhi, the Dalai Lama, scholars, and a wonderful free Dharma-book distribution system.

1) Join Ven. Thich Tri Hoang for a three-day retreat April 24-26, at CYM. Open to all practitioners. There will sitting and walking meditation, sutra recitation, chanting, prostrations, and a Dharma Festival for students. A $45 donation to the monastery includes overnight accommodations in the single-sex dormitories and three vegetarian meals per day.

2) Join Ven. Dhammadipa (the remarkable European monk versed and ordained in both Theravada and Mahayana traditions) for a 5-day loving-kindness (metta) retreat at CYM. Open to all interested meditators, with Dharma talks, sitting and walking mediation, and various exercises. There will be teachings and meditation instructions on the Four Sublime Abidings (brahma-viharas) that accompany spiritual development: loving-kindness, compassion, sympathy, and equanimity. May 21st evening to 26th morning.

3) Join Ven. Xin Xing for a Day of Mindfulness at Hai An Pagoda, New Britain, Connecticut on Saturday June 13.

TV: "60 Minutes with Buddha"

"60 Minutes with Buddha" is a weekly television program produced and hosted by Amolak Seghalin in cooperation with the Buddhist Association of the United States (http://www.baus.org/).
