A Night at The Garden in 1939 (Field of Vision)

Prof. Ben-Ghiat argues that Trump's use of the hallmarks of "fascism and violence" -- including dehumanizing rhetoric, profane and crude discriminatory language, and threats to the "enemy within" -- echoes the rise of midcentury fascist rulers like and Adolf Hitler and Fran Franco.

Curry attended the rally and also directed the short film A Night at the Garden, about the 1939 Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden. He notes, "The demagogues in 1939 used the same tactics that we see today."

(TheUntoldPast) One of the strangest events to take place around the time of WW II has to be the Nazi rally that took place in one of the world's most famous entertainment venues, New York's Madison Square Garden.

• Was Hitler-supporting Prescott S. Bush, the forebear of CIA Chief George H. Bush and US Pres. George W. Bush (puppet of fellow war criminal VP Dick Cheney) holding a swastika, a portrait of the Fuhrer, or a white supremacy banner?

Prior to the American involvement in Hitler's war, there was an American group that supported Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

Known as the German American Bund, they had thousands of racist members in the USA. There were numerous white supremacist groups like this around the world outside of Germany.

However, what is the story of their 1939 rally in the most famous entertainment venue in the world (site of Led Zeppelin's greatest concert when the British invaded the US)?

Why would we have a day to celebrate crushes? Some say these are literal. We crush cans. We recycle. If we're smart, we pre-cycle (plan ahead about what will become of the waste) and use banana leaves instead of plastic plates or big rolls of seaweed instead of those maddening packaged ones in individual wrappers where the container weighs more than the contents. Of course, we all know what a crush is. And we should know it isn't harmless. Mara Devaputra (Kamadeva, Eros, Cupid) delights. It hurts pining, waxing, wishing, hoping, wondering, casting our hearts like lures into the sea to see if anything is biting. Those bites won't much matter. There's just the One who either got away or was never caught. And we idealize. We weave a fantasy that becomes a petard. We're hoisted by our own petard. We grow tendrils and then cry when the mass of vines grows so heavy it tears off the fence or pole. Oh, the hole! In our hearts, there are many spaces, but in all the space, there's only you. You send me, Crush. Woe upon us. If only, if only there were a way to snap out of it. If only there were a way to be mindful of the moment instead. Scientists had previously plotted a ‘path of totality’ that identified the key cities and towns that were expected to see the Moon [or Rahu] directly covering the Sun on Monday. However, John Irwin, an amateur astronomer, recently released an updated version of the map charting the eclipse’s 115-mile journey, from East to West across the USA.

[Surely, the map shows the shadow of the solar eclipse moving from West (Texas) to East (New York), which should be impossible given that we are told the Earth is constantly revolving from West to East (giving the illusion that the sun is rising in the East) so that an eclipse shadow could only ever move in one direction]. And his calculations show that its original path could be altered by about 2,000 feet (609m). More

• Is the width of the zone of totality 113 miles? That would mean the object casting the shadow is a 113 miles wide, depending on how close our Sun is. The width was 72 miles in 2017. Test it. Take a ball or disk and put a flashlight behind it. If you put the flashlight close, it distorts the shadow of the object and makes the shadow bigger. But no matter how close you bring the light, it can never make the shadow any less wide than the object casting the shadow. It's just a fact of light, the way things stay the same size in a mirror even if we get closer or step back. (Hold a phone, draw a square around it with a marker on the surface of the mirror, and back up. You may feel you are getting smaller, but the phone stays the same size to fit perfectly within the box). We are told our moon is how wide? It's certainly not a mere 72 miles or 113 miles wide. We are told it's much bigger (about as wide as Australia) and much farther away (239,000 miles) than it truly is. We are further told that our Sun is much bigger and 93 million miles away. Nonsense, that's demonstrable nonsense. Our eyes are not fooling us, as we have been told.

Ksitigarba saves hell beings

You know that big Buddhist temple on the side of the hills that separate Orange County from Los Angeles County? It's Hsi Lai on the LA side, facing the San Gabriel Mountains, overlooking LA's second valley. What do they do there?

It's a Taiwanese Mahayana complex built on the model of genuine Chinese temples following a more devotional, slightly Zen, style of Chinese Buddhist tradition, ancestor worship, good luck rituals, nuns training, repentance, chanting, and weeklong sleepovers of more intense meditation practice.

It's the second largest in the Western hemisphere

There are classes, which at first will not seem very friendly to Westerners, catering to a largely Asian population from both counties. But a persistence pays off, and there's a Buddhist college (University of the West) they run in nearby Rosemead. So they do provide English-speaking programs from time to time.

In any case, there's always a small and interesting museum, a giant vegan/vegetarian cafeteria to visit, a tea house, and a gift shop. Visit any weekend. Coming soon:
