People instinctively fear that robots and computers will first outsmart us then take over. Either this is a joke, simply pointing out that capitalist business interests attempt to make humans obsolete, or a logical deduction. It may also be a collective memory of past lives when this has happened before. We have lived countless times before.
Civilizations, on this planet as elsewhere throughout the cosmos, have risen and fallen, reaching much higher pinnacles of technological advancement. Futurists tell tales or reveal futures of catastrophic outcomes. This sexualized android already debuted in Japan. Are we approaching a time of such staggering memory, life-likeness, computational complexity, and speed as to awaken these ancient fears?
It will never happen! Oh wait, gynoids and androids are already here.
The prestigious International Symposium on Robotics conference will soon return to the United States. The event is slated for March 21-24 at the McCormick Place convention center in Chicago, the 42nd edition of the conference. "The ISR occupies a unique place in the history of robotics, and we're delighted to be hosting it again in the U.S. for the first time since 2007," Jeff Burnstein, president of the event's co-sponsor, Robotic Industries Association, said. "Every year the ISR educates suppliers, users, and researchers on the latest developments in robotics from around the globe." More>>
