Wild Mushroom Fair, Kombucha, Expo (L.A.)

Celebrate the Valentine’s Day weekend at the Wild Mushroom Fair.  The 34th annual fair, sponsored by the L.A. Mycological Society, includes demonstrations on growing, cooking, and identifying mushrooms.  10:00 am-4:30 pm. Included in regular admission; members free. More

  • 9:00 am: Arboretum mushroom walk with Dr. Bob Cummings. Meet in front of Ayres Hall at 8:45 am.
  • 10:00 am: Mushroom growing demonstration in Ayres Hall with Peter McCoy author of Radical Mycology: A Treatise on Seeing and Working with Fungi
  • 11:30 am: Chef's Demonstration in Ayres Hall with De La Luna Catering
  • 1:00 pm: Keynote Speaker Michael Wood, co-author of California Mushrooms: The Comprehensive Identification Guide, Palm Room near entrance.
  • 2:30 pm: Mushroom growing demonstration with Peter McCoy in Ayres Hall
  • 4:00 pm: Fair closes

Learn how to brew and bottle your own kombucha [which is not a mushroom but a "symbiotic colony of probiotic-bacteria and yeast" or SCOBY] safely at this class on Feb. 10, 10:00 am-12:00 pm, which will cover various methods and recipes. Kits, available for sale in class, include one-gallon glass jar, recipe, tea, sugar, SCOBY, and starter liquid. Class fee $30 members; $40 non-members.
