(The Why Files) The Why Files: Operation Podcast
An average man from Derinkuyu, in the Nevşehir Province in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey (Republic of Türkiye, a country straddling West Asia and Southeast Europe) was renovating his basement. Using only a sledgehammer, he broke through one of his walls and, strangely, felt fresh cool air coming in from the other side.
Inside he found a small room-sized cavern.
Oops, they figured it out! Time for big revelations
This area of Turkey has complex cave systems, so he thought he accidentally stumbled into one.
He didn't.
That first small room was only the beginning.
