K-pop is not about the music: selling out

We're backed by very evil and rich corporations
Like Korean Buddhism,* K-pop (Korean 케이팝, RR Keipap, "Korean popular music") is a best-selling creation originating in South Korea [2]. The music genre that the term is used to refer to colloquially emerged in the 1990s as a form of youth subculture, with Korean musicians influenced by Western dance music, hip-hop, R&B, and rock [3, 4, 5].
(BTS Inc.) What do fans want, divas or gay dance rapper thug life?

(No Na) "Honk!" It's the future of all music, like Indonesia's no na (lol)
One day we'll be bigger than Blackpink
Today, K-pop commonly refers to the musical output of teen "idol" acts, chiefly all-girl groups and all-boy bands, who emphasize visual appeal and performance [6].

As a pop genre, K-pop is characterized by its melodic quality and cultural hybridity [7, 8, 9]. K-pop can trace its origins to "rap dance," a fusion of hip-hop, techno, and rock popularized by the group Seo Taiji and Boys, whose experimentation helped to modernize South Korea's contemporary music scene in the early 1990s [10, 11, 12].

We're not manufactured product! We're natural
Their popularity with teenagers led the music industry to focus on this demographic. Lee Soo-man of SM Entertainment, who developed the Korean idol system in the late 1990s, created H.O.T. and S.E.S., the "first generation" of K-pop [13].

By the early 2000s, TVXQ and BoA had achieved success in Japan and gained traction for the genre overseas [14, 15]....

By 2019, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) listed South Korea as the 6th largest music market in the world [116], with boy band BTS alone accounting for $4.65 billion, or 0.3%, of South Korea's GDP [117].

Blackpink, biggest in the world?
In 2024, IFPI declared K-pop the leading global genre in unit sales, across both physical and digital formats. Seventeen of the top 20 albums on the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart that year belonged to this genre [118, 119] thanks to BTSBlackpink, solo Rosé, Katseye, and a few others. More

*Korean Buddhism for a changing Korea
Standing guard statue (one of the Four Heavenly Sky Kings) in a Korean temple, Korea
.
Korean Buddhism began in the 4th century CE during the Three Kingdoms Period. Centuries after Buddhism originated in [Gandhara, now modern Afghanistan] and Magadha [a Buddhist territory later brought into the empire under the umbrella term "India" under Buddhist Emperor Ashoka], the Mahayana tradition arrived in China through the Silk Road in the 1st century CE, then entered the Korean peninsula in the 4th century, from where it was transmitted to Japan.

In Korea, it was adopted as the state religion of three constituent polities of the Three Kingdoms Period, first by the Goguryeo (aka Goryeo) in 372 CE, by the Silla (Gaya) in 528 CE, and by the Baekje in 552 CE [1].

Korean Buddhism is distinguished from other forms of Buddhism by its attempt to resolve what its early practitioners saw as inconsistencies within the Mahayana Buddhist traditions that they received from foreign countries.

To address this, Korean Buddhists developed a new holistic approach to Buddhism that became a distinct form, an approach characteristic of virtually all major Korean thinkers.

Sam Taeguk symbol, Korean Buddhism
The resulting variation is called Tongbulgyo ("interpenetrated Buddhism"), a form that sought to harmonize previously arising disputes among scholars (a principle called hwajaeng 和諍) [2].

As it now stands, Korean Buddhism consists mostly of the Seon [Zen] Lineage, primarily represented by the Jogye and Taego Orders. The Korean Seon has a strong relationship with other Mahayana traditions that bear the imprint of Chan teachings as well as the closely related Zen.

Other sects -- such as the modern revival of the Cheontae lineage, the Jingak Order (a modern esoteric sect or Vajrayana), and the newly formed Won -- have also attracted sizable followings [3].

Korean Buddhism has contributed much to East Asian Buddhism, especially to early Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Tibetan schools of Buddhist thought. More

The real reason America created police

(Erased Century) This documentary traces a process through the architecture and legal history of Europe’s built environment. Let's examine the "window tax" and how a levy designed as a proxy for wealth reshaped homes across Britain by encouraging owners to brick up their own windows.

Let's look at the Assize of Bread and Ale, a medieval system that allowed prices, weights, and quality to be checked openly in public. Follow the history of buildings like the Cloth Hall in Ypres, where commerce once operated in direct view of the town square through dozens of open doorways. Let's place those systems beside the English Enclosure Movement, where common land was steadily converted into private property through acts of Parliament.

What emerges is not just a story about taxation or urban design. It is a story about the disappearance of public accountability from physical space.

For centuries, economic life was not fully hidden behind offices, contracts, and restricted records. It was built into rooms, halls, scales, galleries, and open market floors. Any person could walk into a civic building, compare a measure, challenge a weight, observe a transaction, or see standards enforced in public. Accountability was not abstract. It was architectural.

But that world was gradually sealed off. The window tax, introduced in 1696, is remembered for darkening homes by encouraging the bricking-up of windows. Yet, light was only one thing being lost.

Across the same broad period, older systems of public regulation were dismantled, guild [the democratic organizations that governed the trades] enforcement weakened, common land enclosed, and civic spaces repurposed.

Rooms that once served open economic functions became offices, storage areas, archives, or restricted institutional space. Doors that had once meant access remained on the facade while the rights attached to them quietly disappeared.

And then there is what happens when those sealed spaces are opened again. Again and again, renovations, fires, and accidental discoveries reveal that the hidden spaces inside old buildings contain histories far more significant than the official story above them.

Archeologists working beneath France's Notre Dame uncovered long-buried tombs and forgotten medieval sculpture. Hidden remains were found inside Benjamin Franklin’s former London home. Other sealed spaces have revealed tunnels, preserved rooms, and material evidence of functions long erased from public memory.

The pattern is difficult to ignore: Once the wall comes down, the building tells a different story.

This documentary follows that pattern across law, architecture, archeology, and urban memory. It asks what disappeared when public rooms were reclassified, when shared land was enclosed, and when physical access to standards, oversight, and verification was replaced by distance and authority.

It is not only about bricked-up windows. It is about bricked-up systems — systems that once allowed ordinary people to see, measure, question, and hold power accountable in plain sight.

WQ meeting at KROQ Comedy Show (3/13)

(OCV) What is stand-up comedyDave Chappelle explains with some examples for Johnny

WHAT HAPPENED?
The club filled up with lots of hooting and hollering patrons eager to see Johnny make a mockery of himself as he dies on stage. But there are many other standup comedians doing the heavy lifting. Vanessa actually dressed up for the evening, wearing a very low-cut blouse that makes her visibly uncomfortable, getting hit on by Blind Charlie's date. She's touching and rubbing away while High T Vanessa visibly squirms and tries to get her to stop. Jake looks like a pregnant B with a small dog strapped to his belly as he yells. The poor thing must be deaf by now as his nervous human companion tries to fade into the woodwork. Klein is sitting up front, but Ally is missing in action, having joined DJ Omar Kahn for a private confab in oblivion. The crowd roars as Johnny is forced to take the stage, six inches off the ground, with a stream of drinkers repeatedly heading for the washroom to see or smell what kind of mess Jake has made. He doesn't bomb! The crowd loves him. He's a simpleton but very affable, and he seems to have prepared some material that he didn't practice on the radio show. He even has a guitar hidden away, which he pulls out in Minute 4 to peals of "Tamales Tamales!" But he has a new song, maybe prepared for the occasion. His girlfriend in skulking in the back surprised to see the crowd participation and encouragement. He was set to fail as he does on most episodes of "Johnny Doesn't Know," but his ego has survived the ordeal. Klein cuts out and by the time Jake stumbles onto the stage as the headliners, the crickets are chirping and the crowd is getting antsy. He doesn't seem well prepared, considering himself an old hat at this, he's sure he can just wing it by memory and a cheat sheet. The crowd tries to help, but Vanessa puts down her phone and it just gets worse and worse. Meanwhile, the WQ meeting has moved to the NoHo Buddhist Temple on Oxnard, the Sarathchandra Buddhist Center. The most amazing this to come from the evening are the knowledge that The Good Nite is full of free standup, music, and open mics most nights and WQ has set its next meeting for the Kwan Yin Meditation Temple in Monrovia, hugging the foothills next to Old Town.

World Champ MJF roast Klein. Ally. Show. | Friday the 13th
(KROQ) Streamed live morning of March 13th. It's the Klein.Ally.Show. (KAS) on KROQ.com. There's snow in New York and a heatwave in Los Angeles as we all head out for the big comedy show with Host Dirty Jake Dill.

On today's show: Jewish wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) joins KAS in studio, "Johnny Doesn't Know," "5-10-20," and more.

It's another Friday the 13th and another day of not-so-gentle ribbing, this time from All Elite wrestling star MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman). He stopped by the studio while gearing up to defend his AEW World Championship title. He mercilessly roasts Klein's new nose, Ally's lack of hygiene, Dirty Jake's virginity, Columbian Vanessa's odd voice, and Low T Johnny the Postman's everything.
The show also brings back 5-10-20, challenging listeners to place three KROQ alt rock songs in order: One from 5 years ago, 10 years ago, and 20 years ago.

The show also hears Low T Johnny's final ideas before his big 5-minute [self-immolation] set for tonight at the Good Nite in NoHo at 7:00 pm. Be there!

Today being Good Luck Friday the 13th, Wisdom Quarterly: American Buddhist Journal is meeting to see stand-up comic Low T Johnny from KROQ's KAS Jake Dill (Instagram) is putting on a comedy show at The Good Nite Bar tonight at 7:00 pm.
Join the entire morning zoo crew: Ally Johnson, Kevin Klein, High T Vanessa the Columbian, Dirty Jake Dill, Low T Johnny, and maybe even the elusive and never-before-seen DJ Omar Kahn.

Four Beatles remain: reunion time?

What in the world do you mean four? Half are gone, and there were only ever five. The Fifth Beatle (Brian Epstein or any of the others) didn't even play, just managed.

He can manage again, if he's around. There's the real Paul McCarthy living a peaceful life in England:

There's pretty boy Pete Best still cashing checks for a little sessions work, replacement Ringo Starkey doing everything he can to prove he was a Beatle after all, like this great song:

And there's Fake Paul, touring and making speeches like always:

The son of Yoko "Chuck Berry Fan" Ono and John Lennon, Julian, the inspiration for the song "Hey Jude." That's more than enough to reform and go out on tour, maybe even make a few mega mass selling singles with the help of AI, psychics (in touch with George and John in the beyond), and old found tapes that can be developed into something:

A brief history of the man who brainwashed America: Edward Bernays
Uncle Scholmo Ziggy Freud
(A Day in History) While no single man can take full credit blame for the rise of American advertising, Edward Bernays certainly deserves more than most. Known today as “the father of public relations” (called PR), Bernays (the nephew of Sigmund Freud) was responsible for campaigns that changed the lives and minds of the American citizen forever: having a hand in everything from political leaders, to smoking culture, and what [pig-eating] Americans ate for their breakfast. His infamous book Propaganda (book) gave rise to the many rules and regulations of public relations.
