Council President Pro Tem Nury Martinez proudly presents El Grito Los Angeles 2019 featuring Los Tigres Del Norte!

ABOUT
El Grito (the shout or scream) will take place at the City Hall Spring St. steps and Grand Park on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, beginning at 5:00 PM.

This is the City of Los Angeles’s 80th El Grito de Delores event and will feature additional musical acts, food, and art vendors, as well as kids’ activities and a voter registration drive.

Councilwoman Nury Martinez is the City’s 2019 El Grito Madrina ("The Scream Sponsor"). Martinez is the first Latina to serve as council president pro tem. She represents Council District 6, the Northeast San Fernando Valley.

El Grito de Delores ("The Cry of Pains") celebrates Mexican Independence from colonial Spain in 1810 and commemorates the moment Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bell of his church and gave the pronunciamiento ("call to arms") that triggered the Mexican War of Independence.

The City of Los Angeles is home to the largest population of Mexicans outside of Mexico City. Councilwoman Martinez is a proud second-generation Mexican-American (Chicana, Latina) whose family hails from Zacatecas, Mexico.
