Monday Night Talk/Meditation at Spirit Rock
Jack Kornfield, the accomplished Buddhist meditation master and author, has something to say about today's global Climate Strike.

Beginning today, youth around the world have joined together in a #climatestrike. But we ALL have a responsibility to act. How?

When we apply the tools available through Dharma practice, we can begin to transform fear, grief, and anger that keep us from contributing in a meaningful way.

This past summer, Jack Kornfield addressed the climate crisis during his Monday Night talk on June 3, 2019. An excerpt of that talk follows. (See it all at spiritrock.org/jack-kornfield or on YouTube).

Climate Change

Noble teacher Jack Kornfield (spiritrock.org)
“The culture — the consumer, misguided side of capitalismwants to put you to sleep. It wants business as usual. It wants you to actually feel that you can’t do anything — that you can’t make a difference. It’s a lie. It’s untrue.

“Raise your voices, vote, educate others. Every one of us can make a difference on this earth. Your practice of loving-awareness and compassion will lead you. Some of you will be political. Some of you will plant. Some of you will support other organizations. Some of you will educate.

“When you feel empowered to make a difference, it will not only change the earth as you plant those seeds, but it’ll also change your heart.

“As Gary Snyder said, ‘If you’re going to save it, save it because you love it.’ Not out of anger. Not out of fear. Not out of hatred or aggression.

“Take care with one another and take care of this beautiful earth.”
