In the bad ol' days before John's heroin yen and Yoko when Pete Best had the Merseybeat

The Beatles narrative: LIES we've been told

Erin Torkelson Weber
It outlines the four Beatles' narratives that have shaped the telling of Beatles' history. This book review offers and overview and highlights.

The book
Hundreds of books have been written about The Beatles. Over the last half century, their story has been mythologized and presented by journalists and biographers as "history."

Many of these works, strictly speaking, do not qualify as history. The mythology continues to be told.

But this book examines the band's historiography, exploring the four major narratives that have developed over time, namely, the:
  1. People prefer myth and fantasy ($$$).
    whitewashed "Fab Four"
  2. breakup-era Lennon Remembers
  3. biased "Shout!" (in the wake of John Lennon's assassination)
  4. current Mark Lewisohn orthodox version.
Drawing on the most influential primary and secondary sources,  historical methods are used to analyze Beatles history.
