(INCREDIBLE HISTORY) In 1959 Juan Armento Camacho found an old bone with scratches, artwork of a hunting scene. It was carved on "green" (young, fresh) bone.

It could be carbon dated. It turned out to be at least 10,000 years old. Some things at this site are 250,000 years old.

Hueyatlaco is an archeological site in the Valsequillo Basin near the city of Puebla, Mexico.

The Mexica tribe "Aztecs" made a country.

After excavations in the 1960s, the site became notorious due to geochronologists' analyses, which have found wildly contradictory estimates for human habitation at Hueyatlaco dating from ca. 370,000 to 25,000 years before present (ybp) [1, 2].

If correct, these controversial findings would substantially exceed the previous oldest-known evidence for habitation of the New World (the White Sands footprints dating roughly 22,000 ybp).

(LiveScience) Scientists have discovered exactly how earthquakes trigger quartz into forming large gold nuggets — finally solving a mystery that's puzzled researchers for decades.

Gold naturally forms in quartz — the second-most abundant mineral in Earth's crust after feldspar. But unlike other types of gold deposits, those found in quartz often cluster into giant nuggets.

These nuggets float in the middle of what geologists call quartz veins, which are cracks in quartz-rich rocks that periodically get pumped full of hydrothermal fluids from deep within the crust.

"Gold forms in quartz all the time," said Chris Voisey, a geologist at Monash University in Australia and the lead author of a new study published Monday (Sept. 2) in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Remarkable new scientific research at Stonehenge has revealed an extraordinary new mystery. Mineralogical tests on the massive six-tonne stone at the heart of the monument show that this central rock, known as the altar stone, was brought to Stonehenge from the far north of Scotland.

• [The greatest disappointment when visiting Stonehenge is that there is a sign along the walkway from the car park to the stones that explains that the stones were adjusted for millennia. So it is not as if some group, human or extraterrestrial, knew what it was meant to be and do (as a calendar) and did it. It has been adjusted all along, perhaps never more than about 50 years ago when cranes and modern equipment were brought in to lift fallen stones and place them just so. What we have today is what was recently created from stones that had laid around in a fallen state for who knows how long. The use of cranes was not a secret when it was happening, but it sure seems to be one now. Most people have no idea of the modern interference.]

The altar stone is arguably the most ritually important stone in Stonehenge, because it is the rock that marks the intersection of the prehistoric temple’s two most important celestial alignments – the winter solstice sunrise to summer solstice sunset alignment, and the summer solstice sunrise to winter solstice sunset alignment.

It’s already known that some of the monument’s smaller stones were brought to the site from southwest Wales, around 120 miles away. But moving a rock from northern mainland Scotland or Orkney would have involved a journey of well over 500 miles.

The discovery has huge implications and is likely to transform archaeologists’ perceptions around key aspects of life in prehistoric Britain.

Up to now, most scholars have assumed that British Neolithic society was exclusively local or regional (based on tribal, clan or similar identities), but the newly discovered Stonehenge-Scotland link, when combined with the Welsh origin of some of the Stonehenge stones, suggests that there might also have been a pan-British aspect to how Neolithic Britons lived.

Protest the environment with cornstarch.

The newly revealed Scottish link implies that 4,500 years ago, there was already at least some political and religious cooperation across Britain. That’s because the Neolithic people who transported the six-tonne rock from northern Scotland or Orkney to southern England must have known that Stonehenge existed, that it was being expanded, and precisely what shape and size of giant rock was required.

Mount Meru (Sanskrit and Pali मेरु, "Mountain High") is also known as Mt. Sumeru, Sineru, or Mahā Meru.

It is the sacred mountain of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain cosmologies. It is considered to the center of all physical, metaphysical, and spiritual universes [1], [the axis mundi of a multiverse, which is not to say every multiverse in the omniverse].

This mysterious "mountain" (or magnetic lines of force extending out of the atmosphere and into space where the heavenly planes are physically located) is also mentioned in some scriptures of non-Dharmic religions such as Taoism, which was influenced by the arrival of Buddhism in China [2].

There is no clear identification of Mt. Sumeru with a particular geophysical location, but it is always located in the Himalayan or Aravalli ranges. Many famous Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain temples have been built as symbolic representations of this mountain.

Why is this one bead different than the others?

The "Sumeru Throne" (须弥座 xūmízuò) style base is a common feature of Chinese pagodas. The highest point (finial bud) on the pyatthat, a Burmese-style multi-tiered roof, represents Mount Meru.

THE NAME meru derives from Sanskrit and means "high." The proper name of the mountain is Meru (Sanskrit Meruparvata), with the prefix su-, resulting in the meaning "Excellent or Sublime Mount Meru" [3]. Meru is also the name of the central bead in a string of rosary beads or mālā [4].

Mars landing looms for NASA; anxiety building a day out

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida - NASA's InSight spacecraft aimed for a bull's-eye touchdown on Mars [and made it today], zooming in like an arrow with no turning back.

InSight's journey took six months and [allegedly] 300 million miles (482 million km) comes to a precarious grand finale Monday afternoon.

The robotic geologist [shown on right] -- designed to explore Mars' insides, surface to core [but has no capacity whatsoever to detect signs of life, present or ancient] -- must go from 12,300 mph (19,800 kph) to zero in six minutes flat as it pierces the Martian atmosphere, pops out a parachute, fires its descent engines and, scientists hope, lands on three legs.

It is NASA's first attempt to land on Mars in six years, and all those involved are understandably anxious. NASA's top science mission official, Thomas Zurbuchen, confided Sunday that his stomach is already churning.

Secret: Earthling-humans are already present

The hardest thing is sitting on his hands and doing nothing, he said, except hoping and praying everything goes perfectly for InSight.

"Landing on Mars is one of the hardest single jobs that people have to do in planetary exploration," noted InSight's lead scientist, Bruce Banerdt. "It's such a difficult thing, it's such a dangerous thing that there's always a fairly uncomfortably large chance that something could go wrong."
