Who is Kehlani?

Kehlani expressed solidarity with Palestine during Israel's genocidal ethnic cleansing of Gaza and war on Palestinian non-Jews.

In Instagram posts, they [Kehlani] voiced disapproval for celebrities who have chosen to remain silent on the matter, implying that they prioritize their personal business endeavors over addressing a pressing humanitarian crisis [88, 89].

They were a principal signer of the October 2023 open letter, Artists Against Apartheid [90, 91]. In November 2023, Kehlani signed an open letter calling for a ceasefire and an end to the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip [92]. On May 27, 2024, Kehlani voiced their criticism on Instagram, this time directed specifically at fellow musicians for remaining silent about the Israel's war on Gaza and Palestine [93].

They further demonstrated their support for Gaza in the “Next 2 U” music video, which opens up with a poem by a Palestinian-American writer and has a Palestinian flag in the background of the entire video [70].

In April 2025, Kehlani's scheduled performance at Cornell University's annual Slope Day was canceled by university president Michael Kotlikoff over their support for Palestine. Kotlikoff claimed that Kehlani had "espoused antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments in performances, videos, and on social media."

In response, they responded on Instagram saying, "I am not antisemitic, nor anti-Jew. I am anti-genocide, I am anti the actions of the Israeli government, I am anti an extermination of an entire people, I am anti the bombing of innocent children, men, women—that’s what I’m anti" [94].

In May 2025, another scheduled Kehlani concert in New York was canceled after pressure from New York City Mayor Eric Adams citing "security concerns" [but not admitting to any undue Jewish influence]. Everyone agrees. Barnes was once a heroic figure in disgusting death metal with his crazed horror movie imagery and his strange way of singing, low and guttural, not trying to keep up with the hypersonic blast beats and sizzling guitar riffs. It made a strange pairing, but it worked. Then what happened? Whatever it was (too much pot probably), he became paranoid, his lungs didn't work, his throat gave out, and he began to...we don't want to say "suck" but just that he became a parody of himself. His band did the unthinkable: Cannibal Corpse got rid of their rock star antihero frontman. Now in hindsight that was probably not the worst idea even though George Corpse Copier is a [blank]. At least George screams/sings, and his throat and lungs have yet to give out. But losing their No. 1 riff maker to Deicide? What's left? The remaining members are great; the replacements are not, so we're still into CC, but only for the legacy of what the group once was and the hope that the old songs get played live. Reunion? Not bloody likely. One guy's gone country, and Barnes has gone out of his warped mind. That's our opinion. Let's look at the reviews.

(JoBlo Originals) July 15, 2022: As far as rockstars go, they don’t get much bigger than Axl Rose. As the frontman of Guns N’ Roses, he became an instant legend when the band's debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was released in 1987. Spawning hits that are still iconic 25 years later (with the soundtrack for Thor: Love and Thunder featuring them prominently), including “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Paradise City,” and “Sweet Child of Mine,” the album broke out from the hard rock/heavy metal genre to become one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, they were one of the biggest bands in the world, with Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 also major sellers. Axl Rose was everywhere, especially when the band started doing ballads like “Don’t Cry” and “November Rain.” Yet, after the release of their covers album, The Spaghetti Incident, Guns N’ Roses started to fall apart, with iconic guitarist Slash and pokey bassist Duff McKagan leaving acrimoniously. Rose would spend most of the next decade working on a follow-up album, Chinese Democracy, with an ever-revolving lineup of members, with the album in question a critical and commercial disappointment. In the meantime, rumors about Rose’s behavior and sobriety ran rampant.

This episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity tries to separate fact from fiction and celebrate the fact that Rose has since reunited much of the original band and that they still sell out stadiums worldwide.

For centuries, Catholics have referred to the Bible to define marriage as a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.

While the Catholic Church has largely been opposed to acknowledging same-sex unions, times have changed and many are becoming more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community.

Although the Catholic Church has not been receptive to gay marriage throughout history, Pope Francis recently offered a glimmer of hope for the gay community.

The pope suggested that the Catholic Church may be open to blessing same-sex unions, which is a major step in one direction.

A Big Win for Same-Sex Couples?

Five conservative cardinals asked Pope Francis to “affirm church teaching on homosexuality” prior to a meeting of the Catholic Church where LGBTQ+ Catholics would be a topic of discussion.

The Vatican published a letter that Pope Francis wrote to the conservative cardinals, in which he signaled that same-sex blessings could be practiced as long as they weren’t confused with “sacramental marriage.”

LGBTQ+ Advocates Are Pleased With the Progressive Movement

The letter is said to “significantly advance” efforts to welcome LGBTQ+ Catholics into the church without judgment.

New Ways Ministry, an organization that advocates for the LGBTQ+ community within the church, was overjoyed by the pope’s unexpected change of heart, saying that it’s “one big straw towards breaking the camel’s back” toward gay people becoming more accepted in the Catholic religion.

Same-Sex Couples Have Largely Been Disregarded by the Catholic Church

Historically, the Catholic Church has been a longstanding opponent of gay marriage. However, Pope Francis has been vocal about his support for civil laws offering legal benefits to same-sex couples.

Additionally, Catholic priests in certain parts of Europe have been blessing same-sex unions without the Vatican’s stamp of approval.

Pope Francis’ groundbreaking new stance is a huge shift from the Vatican’s official position on gay unions.

The Bible and the Church Have Been Opposed to Same-Sex Unions for Centuries

Pope Francis’ response to the conservative cardinals is a giant step forward for the LGBTQ+ community.

The church has never really been accepting of homosexuality and has often spoken out against it. The Bible makes several references against homosexuality, such as in Leviticus 18:22, saying “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

In 2021, the Catholic Church’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith stated that the church could not bless same-sex unions because “God cannot bless sin.”

Dr. Gabor Mate's When the Body Says No explains why O'Connor had so many illnesses; it's the lasting result of enduring early childhood traumatic events. These incidents -- or our dysfunctional reactions to them -- live on for many years. It is our karma, our response to them, that has more to do with it than their happening to us. They happen to many, many people, but not everyone reacts in such a way to make the suffering unbearable. As Dr. Mate explains, not everyone who takes a drug becomes addicted, so drugs are not addictive. But nearly everyone who becomes addicted does so as a result of taking a drug (or engaging in a self-soothing behavior). Why is this? It is because of the presence of early childhood traumas in one's past. If they are there and we take a drug, we will become addicted. When the pain becomes too great, the BODY says no. It's not the mind, it's not all in one's head. The body is the storehouse of the trauma, and we either "work it out or act it out."

• We know many people will cry, "Blaming the victim!" But consider why this is a foolish thing to shout. No one is saying we have a say in what happens to us. What we say is what the Buddha taught: We have a say in what we do. What we do is OUR karma. That will have an effect on what we feel, think, and experience. The results of our present karma will impact us now and for many lives in the future. If you do one deed, skillful or unskillful, it bears results over and over again, exponentially. It will not be exhausted by occurring back to you once in the future. Each impulsion (javana) or mind-moment (citta) will bear fruit and ripen in the future. So each thought, each word, each physical act will give rise to countless results. And each result will provoke another reaction, so we will go in circles until we can change course and not react that way to a stimulus. We can hardly do that know knowing what we know. So imagine how unlikely it is that we're going to change course anytime in the near future. We will not know, we will not remember, we will not see a reason to change then. When we did know, did see, did have a reason, we could not change by an act of will. So every deed matters, adds up, piles on. We are heirs to our karma, children of our karma, affiliates of our karma. Think, speak, and act wisely and compassionately. It will do you good for a long, long time.

Why (the artist formerly known as) Prince had issues with Sinead O’Connor

(Sinnik22) Premiered Aug. 31, 2022. Sinead O’Connor has claimed that she faced a violent confrontation with Prince after securing her biggest hit with a cover of his song "Nothing Compares 2 U."

In a new interview with The New York Times, the Irish singer said the incident occurred when Prince invited O'Connor to his Hollywood mansion after the 1991 cover became a huge worldwide hit.

According to O’Connor, Prince “chastised her for swearing in interviews, harangued his butler to serve her soup though she repeatedly refused it, and sweetly suggested a pillow fight only to thump her with something hard he’d slipped into his pillowcase.”

Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia -- who was married to the singer from 1996-2000 -- spoke out in the star’s defense, telling TMZ that he was never violent towards her or witnessed him being violent towards anyone.

Cat echoes Mayte’s sentiments in this episode. She arrived in Hollywood as Tara Leigh Patrick. Thanks to Prince, she emerged a star known as Carmen Electra.

“That first time I met Prince, he was very quiet,” she says. “I was very shy, so there was this awkward moment of us just kind of standing in front of each other. He broke the ice by ask­ing me if I wanted to play pool.”

Prince went to the piano and started playing "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music. “I had a feeling he thought I didn’t know the song, but it just so happened I had played Marta and Brigitta at two differ­ent dinner theatre productions of The Sound of Music in Cincinnati,” she says.

Then Electra danced for him -- the art in which she was most trained. Prince seemed impressed by her dancing, but days passed without her hearing back regarding the part in the band. Electra assumed she’d been rejected.

“I wound up getting my deal with Capitol Records, so I stayed in L.A. to record my demos,” she says. “During that time, I got a call from Prince, who said he’d heard I was recording and asked to hear my songs.” After playing the songs for him, Prince told her he could do better.

A few days later, she met him in a studio in L.A. “He wrote me a song called, ‘Carmen on Top.’” Should she like the song, she could record it. “I loved it, but I reminded him that my name was Tara. He told me, ‘You look like a Carmen so, to me, you’re Carmen.’”

Though the song was never released, the new name stuck. She was now officially Carmen Electra. Not long after, Electra accepted Prince’s invitation to move to Minneapolis and signed a record deal with Paisley Park Records.

Prince produced and wrote her first project, directed her videos, and styled her looks. Living at Paisley Park was utterly surreal, Electra wistfully recalls. “It looked like you were in heaven and a magical unicorn was going to come running around the corner,” she laughs. “Everything in Paisley Park was pastel and light and fluffy and dreamy. You just felt like you were in another world -- a world that Prince created.”

We live in an illusion, deluded about what's real. Will we wake up? Not without a struggle and not without intense pain -- such as the loss of a loved one -- to prompt us to search for the real, for emancipation, for an end to all suffering, which is called nirvana. Does Ronstadt know that? She dated Gov. Jerry Brown, of the Dead Kennedys fame, so she might. Many Catholics develop a great interest in the teachings of the Buddha, either from the point of view of Mahayana universalism or Theravada monasticism, which is quite like the Carmelites and Saint Teresa.
