23andMe may sell all our data

We are told we are just coded protein strands.
What a rip-off, corporate @$#%$^&, this company's about to sell our data!

23andMe said we were Jewish (less than 1%), very Irish, Mexican, and who knows what -- Denisovan, Neanderthal, Ainu, Native American, Scandinavian, ET, surely there's got to be at least a drop of Sami in there. We were hoping for Basque and Hopi, something Iberian, Dravidian-Aryan, and Anasazi, but no such luck. Now the whole world is going to know it!

23andMe files for bankruptcy as CEO Anne Wojcicki resigns. What will happen to everyone's DNA samples and resultant data?

As another corporation flops or allows our data to be breeched before flopping, Americans are in danger of unwanted disclosures. Ever since the medical industry has been going online, hackers have been having at our data and selling it on the Web (mostly the Dark Web). What does the government do? Pass a report along to DHS, FBI, CIA, NSC, NSA? No, mostly it just sends records to Mormons, who are keen to store the records inside a hollowed-out mountain.

That's what ancestry.com is all about or at least how it started. Someone has to hold on to those records, and it can't just be the Catholic Church and its system of official baptisms. What to do as 1984 is upon us? Big Brother, having been watching, will upload the records to AI ("Hal" 2001 a Space Odyssey) to sort out. Surely, Dave will figure it out. It's not like AI can read lips. Can it?

California Attorney General Rob Bonta, what's going on? Bonta says update profiles and delete data, requesting samples be destroyed before they fall into the hands of a new buyer with a new privacy policy.

Drunk parody poem: Dulce et decorum est

Seven's homage to British war poet Wilfred Owen (Dulce et Decorum est), Wisdom Quarterly

"Dulce et Decorum est"

See anything you like?
Bent on doubles, like rueful hacks*
Knock-kneed, distended like bags, we cursed our guts,
Till on the moistened bar we turned our backs,
And towards the distant restroom began to trudge.
Men went asleep. Many wet their boots,
But dripped on, bloodshot. All went down in flames, all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the shoos
Of barmaids swabbing spilled wine.

Gassed! GASSED! Slick boys—in ecstasy fumbling
Flitting at barflies, limp helmets drooping, dying,
But someone still was sighing ow and mumbling
Floundering—zip, nick, drip of Fireball or lime.—
Dim through beer goggles and thick green light,
As over a salted rim, I saw him saucing.

Ah, the thicc "green light" (that Margarita, Spanish for "Daisy").

In all my dreams before my helpless sight
He plunges, stick in, stick out, hurling, saucing.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could face
The fine and the paddy wagon they flung him in,
And watch the bloodshot eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a drooler's sick in sink,
If you could hear, at every jolt, the flood
Come gargling from this froth-corrupted bum
Obscene as man spread
Bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on bargirl tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children desperate for some weekend glory,

  • *HACK: 3a: a person who works solely for mercenary reasons: HIRELING. b: a writer who works on order also: a writer who aims solely for commercial success (Merriam-Webster).
ORIGINAL: "Dulce et Decorum est"
Poet and WWI soldier Wilfred Owen*
Wilfred Owen
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs,
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots,
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame, all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of gas-shells dropping softly behind.

Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams before my helpless sight
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin,
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer
Bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,–
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,

ABOUT: Wilfred Edward Salter Owen MC (March 18, 1893–Nov. 4, 1918) was an English poet and soldier. He was one of the leading poets of the First World War. His war poetry on the horrors of trenches and gas warfare was much influenced by his mentor Siegfried Sassoon and stood in contrast to the public perception of war at the time as glorious and to the confidently patriotic verse written by earlier war poets such as Rupert Brooke. Among his best-known works -- most of which were published posthumously -- after his tragic early death are "Dulce et Decorum est," "Insensibility," "Anthem for Doomed Youth," "Futility," "Spring Offensive," and "Strange Meeting." Owen was killed in action at the age of 25 on Nov. 4, 1918, a week before the war's end. More

5 Foods for Meat and Killing w/ Dave Asprey

Tom Bilyeu, 11/1/22; Pfc. Sandoval, Ash Wells, Ananda (Dharma B Meditation), Wisdom Quarterly
Yum, that was good. We're going to live to be 185 by killing and eating the dead? - Ya'think?

The 5 Foods to Never Eat Again After Watching This | Dave Asprey
(Tom Bilyeu) Nov. 1, 2022. On today's episode: What are we basing our diet choices on? With the abundance of information available, there is no shortage of diet camps to choose from.

So humans have to kill to live?
Whether we have decided on being compassionate vegan or self-deluded carnivores (convincing ourselves that killing animals is the nice and moral thing to do for them, y'know, so they won't suffer so much), vegetarian, raw, or decided to lovingly follow a plant-based diet, maybe a pegan (paleo-vegan), to support being more humane to all animals, how is our decision impacting our health and that of the environment?

Please let me live, Dave.
Dave Asprey, “the father of biohacking” and founder of the Bulletproof Diet and Upgrade Labs, has been digging into the research and data determined to live a normal human life of 185 years. He’s already reversed his biological age by 11 years, and in this episode he’s laying out mind-blowing ways to biohack our way to better health with less time and effort in the gym and why following a plant-based, vegan diet may not be as kind and friendly to the planet as we’re led to believe.

I was born with three hearts to love better.
There are many ways to achieve optimal health, the question is which one is best for us? This episode is about covering our bases and knowing what areas are more meaningful for us to look into and consider. It's controversial, and Dave Asprey is wrong in some key ways, but in other ways he has a point. It just goes to proves, the mind can convince itself of anything once we set our heart on it -- even killing and calling it good.

“When you choose a vegan diet, you are voting against the presence of any [slaughtered] animals in that agricultural land.” [18:22]

“When you upgrade your biology so it works better, you have a better system for detecting reality around you.” [1:20:58]

“If you ignore the body, you ignore the threat networks in the body and you just work on the mind you’ll never get there.” [1:22:30]

Hacking enlightenment: Can ultrasound help?

The Guardian, 6/29/21; Shinzen Young; Dhr. Seven, Pat Macpherson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Hacking enlightenment: can ultrasound help us transcend [delusion to reach] reality?
(The Guardian) ARIZONA, USA - Can technology improve the way we meditate? At the University of Arizona, Dr. Jay Sanguinetti and Jewish-American Zen meditation master Shinzen Young are using ultrasound to find out.

They want to improve our ability to achieve mindfulness [being present and accepting the present moment without reacting with clinging to the pleasant, aversion to the unpleasant, or boredom with the neutral] -- as well as enhance our cognition and wellbeing. They believe it could revolutionize the way we treat those with depression and trauma. But as investors from Silicon Valley become interested in the technology, the pair are fighting to make sure the device is used in the right way and for the right reasons.

Julian Assange's sham WikiLeaks trial (video)

Jimmy Dore (jimmydoreshow.com); Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon, Ashley Wells, Wisdom Quarterly

Reality Winner also got the Manning treatment.
Now that the U.S. government bent over backwards to extradite Julian Assange from the Ecuadorian Embassy in England with the help of the British government, Assange is being put through the same sort of torturous treatment Pfc. Bradley Chelsea Manning was forced to endure to whistleblowing. Assange is being accused of helping Edward Snowden reveal the NSA and CIA's massive spying program being inflicted on all Americans with a cell phone or Internet presence. What the kangaroo court will do to him can already be predicted. It was exactly this sort of injustice that kept Assange in the embassy for so long. Will Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian, Amnesty International, the ACLU, the [sold out] Intercept, Democracy Now!, or any other justice advocates be able to get him any semblance of a fair trial?

Dr. Lustig: Science of Happiness (video)

Ananda (Dharma Meditation Initiative), Dhr. Seven, Jen B., Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
New York Times bestselling author of Fat Chance reveals corporate scheme to sell PLEASURE, driving the international epidemic of addiction, depression, and chronic disease.
“If you’re told by every TV commercial and everybody you know that you’re unhappy, to ‘buy this and you’ll be happy,’ you start to believe them. But it doesn’t make you happy; it actually makes you unhappy. It works for industry because it gets you to buy more, but it doesn’t work for us.”
While researching the toxic and addictive properties of sugar for Fat Chance, Dr. Robert Lustig made an alarming discovery: Our pursuit of happiness is being subverted by a culture of addiction and depression.

Dopamine is the “reward” neurotransmitter that tells our brains we want more. But every substance/behavior that releases dopamine in the extreme leads to addiction.

Serotonin is the “contentment” neurotransmitter that tells our brains we don’t need any more. But its deficiency leads to depression.

Ideally, both are in optimal supply. But dopamine evolved to overwhelm serotonin -- because our ancestors were more likely to survive if they were constantly motivated -- with the result that constant desire can chemically destroy our ability to feel happiness, while sending us down the slippery slope to addiction.

In the last 40 years government legislation and subsidies have promoted ever-available temptation (sugar, illegal and pharmaceutical drugs, addictive social media, pornography, cell phones, screens) combined with constant stress (work, home, money, Internet).

The end result is an unprecedented epidemic of addiction, anxiety, depression, and chronic disease. And with the advent of neuromarketing, corporate America has successfully imprisoned us in an endless loop of desire and consumption from which there is no obvious escape.

With wit and incisiveness, Dr. Lustig reveals the science that drives these states of mind. He also points directly at the corporations that helped create this mess and the government actors who facilitated it. And he offers solutions we can all use in the pursuit of happiness. Fearless and provocative, Dr. Lustig marshals a call to action. More

Science: Pleasure vs. Happiness (video)

Dr. Robert H. Lustig, M.D., M.S.L. (robertlustig.com); Ananda (DMI), Jen, Wisdom Quarterly

Dr. Robert Lustig, M.D. is professor emeritus of pediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). He specializes in the field of neuroendocrinology, with an emphasis on the regulation of energy balance by the central nervous system. His research and clinical practice has focused on childhood obesity and diabetes. Dr. Lustig holds a B.A. from MIT and a Ph.D. in medicine from Cornell University Medical College, and a Master’s of Studies in law from U.C. Hastings College of the Law. Dr. Lustig has fostered a global discussion of metabolic health and nutrition, exposing some of the leading myths that underlie the current pandemic of diet-related disease. He believes the food business, by pushing processed food loaded with white sugar, has hacked our bodies and minds to pursue pleasure instead of happiness -- fostering today’s epidemics of addiction and depression. Yet by focusing on real food, we can beat the odds against depression, sugar, processed food, obesity, and disease. More

Can science solve online dating? (video)

Amy Webb (TED, Oct. 2, 2013); Ashley Wells, Crystal Quintero (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

How I hacked online dating
Amy Webb was having no luck with online dating. The dates she liked didn't write her back, and her own profile attracted crickets (and worse). So as any fan of calculus and data would do: she started making a spreadsheet. Hear the story of how she went on to hack her online dating life -- with frustrating, funny, and life-changing results.

Are we in a simulation? Evidence (video)

Real Spirit Dynamics; DavidIcke.com; Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Are we in a simulation? Overwhelming evidence
Is life maya, a grand illusion, like the sages from India have been saying all along? Ryan Rogers talks about his views on the Simulation Hypothesis and the possibilities of who or what could have created this reality.

Is there evidence to support the Simulation Hypothesis? The Simulation Hypothesis proposes that all reality, including our earth and universe, is in fact an artificial simulation, most likely residing on a computer. Some versions rely on the development of a simulated reality, a proposed technology that would seem so realistic as to convince its inhabitants that the simulation were real. The hypothesis is a central plot device in many science fiction stories. Patreon.com/realspiritdyn...

Intercept: Whistlelower cover blown Reality...

Associated Press (ap.org); Pat Macpherson, Pfc. Sandoval (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Hi, my name is Reality Winner. I'm a whistle blower against soulless ginger Trump (AP).

Obama/GOP will not tolerate whistleblowing
It will be difficult for 25-year-old Reality Winner to get a fair trial if her case becomes "this big thing where we're not going to tolerate leakers [whistleblowers]," Winner's mother, Billie Winner-Davis, told The Associated Press in an interview.

"I think they're going to try to make an example out of her because of the political climate right now," Winner-Davis said.

Winner, a former Air Force linguist who now works as a U.S. government contractor, was arrested Saturday by FBI agents on charges that she made copies of a classified report containing top-secret information and mailed it to an online news organization [called The Intercept or WikiLeaks].

A judge has scheduled a hearing Thursday for Winner in U.S. District Court to determine whether to allow her to be released on bond pending trial....

I'm not a "soulless ginger orangutan" like Reality Winner says. I'm a redhead.
.
Prosecutors have not named the news outlet, but her arrest was announced Monday as the website The Intercept reported it had obtained a classified NSA (National Security Agency) report suggesting Russian hackers had attacked a U.S. voting software supplier before last year's presidential election....

The Intercept said the NSA report was dated May 5 -- the same date court records cited for the documents Winner is accused of leaking....

She posted on Facebook three months ago that climate change is a more important issue than health care "since not poisoning an entire population seems to be more in line with 'health' care, and not the disease care system that people voted for a soulless ginger orangutan to 'fix.'" More

Glenn Greenwald: Russia and WikiLeaks

Glenn Greenwald, Amy Goodman (DemocracyNow.org, Jan. 5, 2017); Wisdom Quarterly

Mainstream media disseminates fake, deceitful news about Russia
S glenn wapo splitGlenn Greenwald, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and one of the founding editors of The Intercept, has a new article headlined: "Wash Post is richly rewarded for false news about Russia threat while public is deceived."

In it, he writes, "Any story that bolsters the prevailing D.C. orthodoxy on the Russia Threat, no matter how dubious, is spread far and wide. And then, as has happened so often, when the story turns out to be false or misleading, little or nothing is done to correct the deceitful effects." More

  • There's a "dearth [lack] of evidence" linking Russia to WikiLeaks release of DNC emails Greenwald: The Senate Armed Services Committee holds a hearing on alleged Russian cyber-attacks, and top intelligence officials are briefing Pres. Obama on a review of evidence that Russia hacked the email servers of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). President-elect Trump will be briefed on Friday. This comes as he is supporting statements by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange that Russia was NOT the source for the mass leak of emails from the Democratic Party. More
Who cares now? I got a memoir book deal!

Buddhist Geeks Conference 2014
Buddhist Geeks are excited to announce that their new workshop, "Mind Hacking," will be offered on August 2, 2014 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at InsightLA in Santa Monica.

The workshop will be led by geeks, mind hackers, and Buddhist teachers Vincent Horn and Emily Horn.

Over the course of this 3-hour interactive workshop they plan to explore the basics of the hacking mindset as well as discussing four meditative skill-sets for hacking the mind, including:
  • Concentration Meditation
  • Investigation Meditation
  • Meditative Inquiry
  • Formless Awareness
During this time together all participants will be engaged in both silent meditation as well as a social form of mindfulness called "social noting." There will be plenty of time for fine-tuning and questions as all journey into a process of hacking the mind, awakening the heart, and rebooting the world.

25 Mildred Ave., Asheville, NC 28806

The opening keynote at the Buddhist Geeks Conference 2014 will be offered by Roshi Pat Enkyo O’Hara. She will be joining Geeks in the exploration of convergence. She brings years of experience as both a teacher and practitioner of Zen Buddhism.

"She asks me, 'Why Zen?'
clear blue sky
sunlight dancing off the bare branches
sound of leaves
the little black-headed chickadee whistles
my life so clear, so direct
gratitude for this mind moment."
