My circle of friends attempted to answer these questions. We determined that we’d need to dig up whatever historical facts [like Sir Frazer's The Golden Bough] we could find that show how this day was commemorated before the Year 1700, more or less.

It is believed that the ancient Celts observed something called a “Samhain festival” toward the end of October. The World Book Encyclopedia states: “The Celts believed that the dead could walk among the living at this time.”
During Samhain (pronounced \sao-in\), the living could visit with the dead. Elements of the customs can be traced to a Druid ceremony in pre-Christian times.
The Celts had festivals for two major gods — a sun god and a god of the dead (called Samhain), whose festival was held on Nov. 1st, the beginning of the Celtic New Year. More: The Roots of Hallowe’en

Nazi Peckerwoods arrested in Los Angeles
![]() |
| Will a reelected Twittler become a new Hump? |
U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said that the bust being announced Wednesday [today, 10/2/24] morning is one of the largest takedowns in the history of the Department of Justice of a neo-Nazi, white supremacist, violent extremist organization.
A total of 68 people were indicted as part of the Peckerwood gang, Estrada confirmed. Of the 68, a total of 42 are in custody.
The Peckerwoods are involved in a wide variety of criminal activity, from drug trafficking to fraud offenses to firearms offenses, violence and identity theft, Estrada said. But what truly distinguishes them is their hate and animosity towards ethnic and religious minorities [like the Jews].

| Marjorie Taylor Greene, are you or Trump Peckers? |
More than 100 suspected Neo-Nazi "Peckerwood" gang members were rounded up for the Jewish New Year celebration of Rosh Hashanah in and around Los Angeles today. (Certainly, no one in law enforcement, many of whom are also racist gang members with tattoos to prove it had anything to do with the coincidence). There are large contingencies of Neo-Nazis living in LA, OC, and Ventura counties, longing to vote for Trump and make America great. Their MAG movement sometimes drives them to march on Washington and violently launch a Hitleresque "putsch" to seize power under their fearless leader's rambling rally speeches and the swinging body of a traitor on the gallows. But their plans were foiled. Not all hope is lost. Nick Fuentes and Friends on the Internet still support the Leader and his new push to seize leadership of the country from within [the Swamp] to remove inconvenient elections and find for him a lifetime appointment as dictator or overseer and kingmaker like Putin and strongmen around the world enjoy. Netanyahu and Kim (Israeli-occupied Palestine and North Korea) and other strongmen the world over are keeping their fingers crossed.
Peckerwood gang member opens up about serving a life sentence under California's three strike law
(THE CONNECT) Cinco de Mayo, 2024: There are Neo-Nazi white supremacist racist gangs in SoCal? Yes, not only in Los Angeles County but also in neighboring Ventura and Orange County. This documentary introduces the bound-for-prison gang affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood. It is the smaller and oddly named phallic group of boys known as the Peckerwoods. A "pecker" in American slang is a [cartoon bird], and "wood" is a reference to [what the cartoon bird pecks], but it is not gay, not gay at all. Prison rules are different from the outside world, and what happens in jail stays in jail.

(Full episode) Chris Curtis grew up in [once predominantly white] Orange County, California, in area rife with addiction and crime.
As a child [who should have enjoyed white privilege from a long history of institutional white supremacy] he was not protected from this reality and in fact was encouraged to be a part of it.
Struggling with addiction and turning to a life of crime, Curtis ended up getting sentenced to life in prison as a result of California's Three Strikes law. There he found himself in some of the most dangerous institutions in the state.

It's Winter Solstice or is Earth flat? (12/21)

The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice (or the best time to hibernate), is said to occur when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the local sun.
This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For each hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky [7].
Each polar region experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice.
This solstice occurs during the hemisphere's winter.
In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the December solstice (usually Dec. 21 or 22) and in the Southern Hemisphere, this is the June solstice (usually June 20 or 21).
Although the winter solstice itself lasts only a moment, the term also refers to the day on which it occurs.
![]() |
| Stonehenge was rearranged to what we see |
The term midwinter (which would seem to mean "middle of the winter") is also used synonymously with the winter solstice, although it carries other meanings as well.
Traditionally, in many temperate regions, the winter solstice is seen as the middle of winter, though today in some countries and calendars it is seen as the beginning of winter.
Other names are the "extreme of winter" (Dongzhi) or the "shortest day." More: winter solstice

What about “science”? Let's do science, proposing a thesis and advancing evidence
(Eric Dubay) Quoting Terra Firma by David Wardlaw Scott, “The system of the Universe, as taught by Modern Astronomers, being founded entirely on theory, for the truth of which they are unable to advance one single real proof, they have entrenched themselves in a conspiracy of silence, and decline to answer any objections which may be made to their hypotheses…

“It is only their followers who have decorated it with the name of an ‘exact science,’ yea, according to them, ‘the most exact of all the sciences.’
“Yet one Astronomer Royal for England once said, speaking of the motion of the whole Solar system: ‘The matter is left in a most delightful state of uncertainty, and I shall be very glad if any one can help me out of it.’
“What a very sad position for an ‘exact science’ to be in is this!” More

Thank you, Eric Dubay, for standing up to the powers-that-be with a dissenting opinion and PROOF for it. That's the ultimate thing. The rest of the world can put their faith in NASA and the CIA and newspapers like the USSR's Pravda.
Would the Buddha bother with the shape of the world? It's not related to our enlightenment, so it's not crucial or worth spending too much time on. What is the origin of the sea? Is the universe (multiverse) finite or infinite? Is it the same person who is reborn or a different one? How will this karma (action) work itself out in terms of karmic-results? These are imponderable questions not conducive to enlightenment, so set them aside. Some questions conduce to awakening, some do not. Which ones do? What is dukkha, its cause, its end, the way to its end? Those are wise questions that do lead to awakening. Pursue those.

The origin of May Day as a time for celebration dates back to when...
It was before Christ, and like so many of our popular celebrations, it has a Pagan connection.
It was before Christ, and like so many of our popular celebrations, it has a Pagan connection.
Pagans
The Druids of the British Isles saw May 1st was the second most important holiday of the year.It was when the Festival of Beltane was held, when the day divides the year in half.
The other half would culminate in Samhain, November 1st. May Day custom was to set a new fire, an ancient New Year rite performed throughout the world.

It was devoted primarily to the worship of Flora, the Goddess of Flowers. The festival ran from April 28 to May 2.
The Romans brought in Floralia rituals, and they were gradually added to those of Beltane. Many of today's May Day customs are similar to those combined traditions.
Puritans

But it was revived when the Puritans lost power in England, though it was less robust than before.

It commemorates the struggle of working people throughout the world and is recognized in every country except the U.S., Canada, and South Africa.
But the holiday began in the U.S. in the 1880s with the fight for an 8-hour work day.
In 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions passed a resolution that 8 hours would constitute a legal day's work beginning May 1st, 1886.
The resolution called for a general strike to achieve. The legislative route had already failed. Workers were being forced to work 10, 12, and 14 hours a day.
So support for the 8-hour movement grew quickly. But there was indifference and hostility from many union leaders. By April 1886 250,000 workers were involved in the May Day movement centered in Chicago.
The heart of the movement was organized primarily by the anarchist Int'l Working People's Association. This terrified businesses and the state. As they prepared to put down the movement, it took on an increasingly revolutionary character.
Police and militia were increased and received weapons financed by local business leaders. Chicago's Commercial Club purchased a very expensive machine gun for the Illinois National Guard to be used against strikers. More

By the Middle Ages every English village had its own Maypole.
Bringing the Maypole from the woods was a great occasion accompanied by much rejoicing and merrymaking.
Maypoles came in all sizes. And villages would vie with one another to show which could produce the tallest.
Maypoles were usually set up for the day in small towns, but in larger towns and in London they were erected permanently.

However, with the return of the Stuarts, the Maypole reappeared and the festivities of May Day were again enjoyed.
One of the changes brought about by the Reformation was an attempt to do away with practices that were obviously of Pagan origin.
Although they succeeded, the Maypole or May Tree with most of the other associated traditions still survived. In France it merely changed names. Elsewhere, the May Tree became the "Tree of Liberty" and was regarded as the symbol of the French Revolution.
Despite the new name, the celebrants treated the tree like a traditional Maypole. They danced around it the same way as their forefathers and mothers.
Trees
Trees
The association of trees came riding on the back of the Spring Festival in ancient Europe.
Trees have always been a symbol of the great vitality and fertility of nature and were used in spring festivals of antiquity.

Anthropologist E. O. James finds a strong relationship between ancient tree-related traditions of the British and Romans. According to James' description, as a part of May Day celebrations youths in Europe cut down a tree, lopped off most of the branches leaving a few at the top.
They then wrapped it with violets like the figure of the ancient Roman god Attis. At sunrise, they used to take it back to their villages blowing horns and flutes.Similarly, the sacred pine representing Attis was carried in procession to the temple of Cybele on Rome's Palatine Hill during the Spring Festival of March 22nd.
Roots in America
The Puritans in the U.S. frowned on May Day, so the day has never been celebrated with as much enthusiasm as in Great Britain.
![]() |
| Christian Puritans in U.S. (haikudeck.com) |
But the tradition of celebrating by dancing and singing around the Maypole, decorated with colorful streamers or ribbons, survived as a part of the English tradition.
Children celebrating the day by moving back and forth around the pole, choosing a May Queen, and hanging May baskets on doorknobs are all leftovers of old European traditions.
May Day US
Our democracy has been hijacked by a handful of uber-wealthy corporations and families. The framers of our constitution envisioned a democracy that was representative of us all.
It now costs millions to get and stay elected. That means representatives are indebted to large donors to fund their elections.
There's a solution! Simple legislation that maximizes small donor contributions by matching them 6:1. This has been proven to nullify the corruption of big money on our political system. More
