Under a Full Strawberry Moon (6/29)

Thirteen full moons make up one calendar year?
Last month's blue moon was really June's? The Gregorian calendar really fails us, making the lunar calendar of 13 months (moonths, since every year has 13 full moons, one each moonth) or even the Chinese lunisolar calendar look very appealing by comparison.

How long is a moonth? It is four weeks. How long is a week? It is seven days. How long is a day? About 24 hours or so. And the surprise is that, agreeing on all of these numbers as most Westerners will, what number __ x 28 (four weeks or a month) will give us 365 days?
  • Mmm, is it 12? - No, it is not. - Oh, is it 11 then? - No, and you're only getting colder. - You don't mean it's 13, do you, because that's bad luck! We can't have 13 anywhere or bad luck will happen, and I'm already afraid that you brought it up! It's 12, right? It has to be 12 because 12 months equal one year!
The number is 13 because 13 x 28 = 364 + plus 1 turnaround (New Year's) day to reset for the next year. This is astronomy in action, only we've been lied to for so long and taught to fear the evil, wrong, bad "thirteen" with superstitions and stupidity for so long that we do not even question it.

The Buddhist lunar observance: uposatha

It's like a Roman religion, and we all just do what we're told. But 13 is a holy number with many excellent attributes, not the least of which is that's how many natural full moons and months we have each year. The ancient Vedas and Sumerian texts were onto something, so why did moderns try to take that away from us, detach us from our celestial clock, our connection to the seasons, solstices, sabbaths (a word that literally means "Saturdays," which we have been conned into thinking is synonymous with solar worship on Sundays), and a more reliable calendar?

The virtues of the lunar observance

There is a way to construct it so that holidays do not jump around in a haphazard way necessitating a priestly caste to interpret the signs for us every time we want to commemorate something. The indigenous people knew it, as did the aboriginal, and the wise women (cursed as "witches"), the pagans, and the heathens, the Gnostics and the Buddhists. The Buddha set aside one day a week to observe the uposatha or "fasting" day (because one only eats between dawn and noon and not after) of observing the Eight Precepts.

Of the four weeks in a month, the full moon observance is the most obvious so it seems the most special, as in if you're only going to follow one a month, this would be the one. Anyone can look up and see that it is time to reflect on the Dhamma, invest in our meditation practice or sadhana, and hear the Teachings of the Awakened One.

Amber Rose challenges Trump's conservatism: He's not very conservative after all
(Trendy Peaks) July 31, 2024: This video dives into sex-positive founder of the LA SlutWalk, pro-abortion, model, mother, and Internet celebrity Amber Rose's bold critique of Ex-Pres. Trump. Known for her outspoken nature, Rose recently questioned Trump's conservative credentials, sparking a heated debate. This AI-enabled analysis parrots her key points, including Trump's:
  • mishandling of the national debt (making it grow),
  • his erratic foreign policy (doing whatever whenever), and
  • his inconsistent stances on social issues (because he's liberal).
Join the exploration as to whether Trump's actions align with traditional conservative values (which they do not) or if he represents a new wave of populism that will say anything and do anything to win votes without keeping his word.

Rosa Parks: The 'no' that sparked movement

Rosa Parks: The 'no' that sparked the civil rights movement
I have seen the Promised Land.
On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama, for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passenger.

In these exclusive BBC clips, discover how her courageous act of defiance set in motion a chain of events that ended segregation in the US, but at a personal cost to Parks herself.

On a winter's evening in 1955, a 42-year-old African-American woman named Rosa Parks, tired after a long day of work as a seamstress, boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, to get home. She paid her fare and took an empty seat in the area of the bus marked "colored."

Ladies man Rev. MLK, Jr.
Fifty-five years earlier, racist Montgomery had passed a law to segregate bus passengers by race. The front of the bus was reserved for white travelers, the seats at the back for Blacks.

But it had also become a custom that bus drivers would instruct a Black passenger to give up a seat if there were no "white-only" seats.

As the bus filled up, bus driver James Blake demanded that she and three other black passengers give up their seats. Rosa Parks alone refused.

Females were attracted to MLK's charisma.
"I did this because I felt I was being violated as a human being. I had had a hard day at work on the job, [I was] physically tired as well as mentally vexed. I was sick of this type of thing we had to endure as a people because of our race," she later said in a BBC interview. More + VIDEO

Doo Dah Parade 2023 video (11/19)

KTLA 5 News on Rose Parade Queen and Court; Editors, Wisdom Quarterly
Doo Dah Parade 2023 is back by popular demand, Sunday, Nov. 19, Pasadena, L.A.

It's peace, love, and happiness
WHAT HAPPENED?
It was the biggest parade ever with countless Monsanto [now Bayer Corporation] corn tortillas being thrown in appreciation of the freak flag, guys in drag, and all the wit, irony, and anti-Israel sentiment one would want in an anti-mainstream flotilla of nonsense. If only Republicans could have seen it. It was not even Democrat-friendly. This is an event for Greens, Peoples Party petitioners, Independents (not LaRouchian Libertarian types), and those willing to speak truth to power. Not that most people are paying attention. If there's one this this event is not is a Grand Tournament of Roses "Rose Parade," though it took place on the exact same spot, a stone's throw from the world-famous Rose Bowl. The after party was at the Old Towne Pub with a band headed up by one of the Hair: The Musical actors and strange vehicles, the rainbow clad, Asian gawkers, and just about the clearest skies after the rains one could ever wish for in Los Angeles.

Neo-Nazi marchers descended on Madison, Wisconsin [nowhere near Pasadena or Columbus], for a twisted weekend rally, prompting swift condemnation from state and local pols and University of Wisconsin-Madison officials. A group of approximately 20 people [angry white guys] dressed in red and black and masks while waving large [swastika] flags and making the [old] Nazi salute ["Heil, Hitler"] made their way from State Street near the UW-Madison campus to the state capitol Saturday, cops [who were on hand to make sure no one stopped them or stood in their way] said [proving that racist white supremacy is still alive and well in the heart of the USA]. Charlie Rose: Mercers gave us Trump (video)

Joshua Green, Charlie Rose; Connie G., Seth Auberon, Pat Macpherson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Charlie Rose Show (July 18, 2017): Joshua Green, a correspondent with Bloomberg Businessweek, introduces his new book, Devil’s Bargain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Storming of the Presidency out today.

It explains how the hedge-fund billionaire Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah Mercer hired Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway and induced members of the country's electoral college system to select Donald Trump, making him president with a minority of popular votes but enough electoral votes to beat Clinton.
