WHAT HAPPENED? It was the biggest parade ever with countless Monsanto [now Bayer Corporation] corn tortillas being thrown in appreciation of the freak flag, guys in drag, and all the wit, irony, and anti-Israel sentiment one would want in an anti-mainstream flotilla of nonsense. If only Republicans could have seen it. It was not even Democrat-friendly. This is an event for Greens, Peoples Party petitioners, Independents (not LaRouchian Libertarian types), and those willing to speak truth to power. Not that most people are paying attention. If there's one this this event is not is a Grand Tournament of Roses "Rose Parade," though it took place on the exact same spot, a stone's throw from the world-famous Rose Bowl. The after party was at the Old Towne Pub with a band headed up by one of the Hair: The Musical actors and strange vehicles, the rainbow clad, Asian gawkers, and just about the clearest skies after the rains one could ever wish for in Los Angeles.

Serializing his final strip in 1995, Larson has published numerous collections of his cartoons in full-sized books, including his anthologies, dubbed The Far Side Gallery in parody of high art.

Daniel P. Sheehan is one of the nation's most influential constitutional and public interest lawyers. He is a professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz. During the past 45 years he has handled such public interest cases as the Pentagon Papers, the Watergate Break In, Iran Contra, and the Silkwood murder case. He has represented victims of the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster and fought against the American Nazi Party on hate crimes. He is the founder of the Christic Institute and the Romero Institute, a nonprofit public policy center in Santa Cruz, California. Sheehan got his law degree from Harvard University and also studied at Harvard Divinity School. He is the author of The People's Advocate: The Life and Legal History of America's Most Fearless Public Defense Lawyer.

On March 13, after weeks of rumors, Pacifica Radio's board of directors voted to fire its executive director, Summer Reese, during what was essentially a conference call.
But nothing is as simple as all that in the oldest and oddest public radio network in the country.

Four days later, Reese sent an email to the entire Pacifica staff announcing that she was not recognizing the board's authority: "I want to assure you that I am in possession of a signed and valid contract for three years of employment from the board of directors and that I fully intend to complete that contract."
And so it was that Reese marched to the Pacifica national office in Berkeley on March 17th, bolt cutters in hand, removed a padlock placed on the front doors over the weekend, and essentially occupied the building.
When newly appointed Interim Executive Director Margy Wilkinson showed up, Reese and 12 of her compatriots -- including Reese's mother, a longtime anti-war and civil rights activist -- refused to let Wilkinson, her husband, and two of her allies pass.

Western Medicine Doesn't Kill, Does It? Wisdom Quarterly (ANALYSIS) Iatrogenic injuries (those caused by the practice of medicine) is becoming the leading cause of death in the US. This means that doctors, hospitals, insurance agents, PPOs, and the general corporate culture actually kills more Americans than any other cause of death.
Few, for example, die of cancer nowadays. But the death rates for those undergoing invasive cancer "treatments" are sky high.
Of course, it is not interested in "curing" anyone, just creating a symptom-control income stream. And it has been very successful at doing that. Corporate greed trumps medicinal need.
Since no one knows the word "iatrogenic," no one likes to think Western (allopathic) medicine does more to harm us than help us. Sure, bones can be set well, but every pharmaceutical is a poison by definition (the biblical practice of "sorcery," pharmakos, which got Sodom and Gomorrah in big trouble with the judgy and angry space Gods). That is why they have to be tested for safety, which is more important than effectiveness.
And of all those that are found to be safe enough and rubber stamped by the industry-controlled FDA, a wolf guarding the hen house situation, there are still catastrophes: Massive lawsuits cause the pulling of wonder drugs from the market when they are found to have side effects that were hidden, under reported, or unforeseen.
Neither abuse nor accidents are not the worst of it. Most pharmaceutical kill when used as directed.
But those lawsuits aren't massive enough to cut into profits. They are externalities (costs unloaded onto society) accounted for by lawyers and well paid researchers. The statistics from inconvenient lawsuits amount to more deaths than result from US wars (troops only, never counting the civilians the troops are there killing).
This, too, has been taken care of by lobbying for legislation to make sure cases do not go to trial but to arbitration. And even if they do go before a jury and win, the judge simply removes the punitive judgments in accordance with law. It's the "magic of the marketplace" when corporations buy and sell politicians, judges, and elections.
"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power," is a famous quote attributed to Italian fascist Mussolini (publiceye.org). The pharmaceutical-industrial complex wins again.
*The information in "Death By Medicine" is detailed in Gary Null Ph.D.'s book with statistical evidence of hundreds of thousands of injuries and deaths due to conventional medicine. How does the money-making system work? The pharmaceutical industry, associations, drug reps, medical schools, medical journals, and the absence of real medical science are all implicated in the scheme to grow rich in spite of millions of injuries and deaths.
