Happy Year of the Ox! Today is the Lunar New Year in some regions of the world, which is based on the lunisolar calendar. This is the beginning of a calendar year the months of which are cycles of the moon and sun. At present, it mostly refers to the East Asian new year's celebration on the same date, of which the most influential is Chinese New Year (commonly referred to as the Spring Festival in Chinese cultures within the Sinosphere). It also refers to other non-Chinese lunar and lunisolar calendars such as the Islamic calendar, which for 2021 is celebrated on Aug. 9th and the Jewish calendar, which celebrates the new year on Sept. 6th.
