N.W.A: "Boyz-n-the-Hood" for Whites (video)

Dynamite Hack's homage
Straight Outta Compton
(CC Robitussn) Semi-official, 6/24/11. This is an homage to Eazy-E's "Boyz-n-the-Hood" by Dynamite Hack, some of his White fans, from their album Superfast. Universal put out an accompanying music video. The boys in the neighborhood song and video, or "Boyz-n-the-Hood" if one is hip to the jive, are so damn "White" it's painful. The video was directed by Evan Bernard and shot by Matty Labatique, so blame them if it stereotypes Caucasians in an unduly favorable light.

N.W.A The World's Most Dangerous Group

Black history is more than just MLK Jr. history.
(IceCubeOSheaJackson) This is a documentary about N.W.A ("Niggaz Wit Attitudes"), an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California.

N.W.A is widely considered one of the most important acts of the West Coast hip hop and gangsta rap sub-genres, sometimes credited as "the most important group in the history of rap music."

Active from 1986 to 1991, these rappers endured many controversies due to their music's explicit lyrics, which many viewed as disrespectful to women and police, and as a glorification of drugs and crime.

N.W.A was banned from many mainstream American radio stations. In spite of this the group has sold over 10 million units in the United States alone. They are known for their deep hatred of the police system (particularly the racist and corrupt LAPD), which sparked a great deal of controversy over the years.

The group's original lineup consisted of Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. MC Ren joined in 1988, and Arabian Prince left later that same year. Ice Cube left in December 1989 over royalty disputes. Several members became platinum-selling solo artists in the 1990s.

N.W.A's debut album Straight Outta Compton marked the beginning of a new gangsta rap era. The production and their lyrics' social commentary were revolutionary within the genre. Rolling Stone ranked N.W.A Number 83 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."

In October of 2012 N.W.A were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the first time. In October 2013 the group was nominated for a second time.

FACT SHEET
to dispel some Dynamite Hack misinformation
  • Eazy-E died before ever hearing our version. We did our first version in 1998 and this one in 2000. Eric Wright died in 1995.
  • Dr. Dre was a part of the process over at Universal/FarmClub with Jimmy Iovine (Interscope). Dre was supposed to make a cameo in the video to help alleviate any potential tension between us and the rap community that might not take kindly to our version. Unfortunately, his appearance on the video fell through. It probably would have hurt his reputation. Gotta think big picture.
  • Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and the estate of Eazy-E all get royalties from this version. They wrote the lyrics, and we wrote the music/melody.
  • We have never played the Grammys.
  • We grew up listening to NWA, Eazy-E, The Ghetto Boys, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Disposable Heroes of Hipopracy, Blowfly, Ice-T, BioHazard, Onyx, and D-Nice. We were kids from Texas who were fans of rap.
  • We know we're not hard or tough or gangster in any way, so we turned down every video idea that portrayed us as living out the lyrics to the song. We're not trying to be Everlast and would get eaten alive on the streets.
  • "Dynamite Hack" is a Caddyshack (1980s movie by Harold Ramis starring Chevy Chase and Bill Murray) reference to weed. The video is supposed to be a riff on the Caddyshack theme with us cast as the rich, entitled, argyle sweater-wearing boobs. Hence the golfing and bad clothes.
  • We are not The Gourds, Weezer, The Bloodhound Gang, Uncle Kracker, or Wheatus.
  • We did not do the "Gin and Juice" cover. That was The Gourds, also from Texas.
  • We did a cover version of Ice Cube's "Today Was a Good Day" on our first album "Pillowhead." It's more of a pop-punk version.
  • If you LOVE this song, there is a strong possibility that you will not enjoy any of our other music. Our other songs are pop-punk and more recently a bit country. The new stuff will be a mixed bag of country-ish stylings and space rock. So, once again, if this song really does it for you, then do not ever try to listen to any of our other music. Except maybe the new stuff. The new stuff is really badass. The album HTBUAB is also pretty killer.
  • If you like rap and have no sense of humor, you will definitely not like this song.
  • Coolio was mad for years about Weird Al's "Amish Paradise," but now he thinks it's funny. He also likes the royalty checks.
  • No one in the band has ever appeared on iCarly.
  • We "appropriated" the look, dress, and affectations of rich, country club folks in Beverly Hills, which is not a part of our people's culture.
  • *How to get your comment removed: Be super disrespectful to others on the Message Board or say hateful sh!t about Eazy-E. Talk all the trash you want about us, but keep the rest of your venom to yourself. I also might delete exceptionally hurtful things about us. I'm not made of stone.
